Kaoru Furushou is a major antagonist in the 2015 manga High School Fleet and its 2016 anime adaptation. She is the one of the instructors of Yokosuka Girls' Marine High School and the captain of Sarushima, where she and her crew would later attack the crew of the Harekaze including Akeno Misaki.
This is largely due to Furushou and her crew being affected by the Totalitarian Disease, which is known as the RATt Virus.
This forced Akeno, who is unaware of the RATt Virus's menace, at first, to order the rest of the Harekaze crew to fire back against the Sarushima, causing Furushou to "accuse" them of mutiny, leading them to be on the run for the past few weeks, until their names were cleared and the RATt Virus's cause was found, thus triggering the events of the series.
After being cured from the RATt Virus by Kaburagi, Furushou later becomes a supporting character.
Furushou is voiced by Megumi Toyoguchi, who voiced other characters including Revy from Black Lagoon and Junko Enoshima from Danganronpa.

Past[]
In the past, Furushou was the classmate of Mashimo Munetani, Mashiro's oldest sister, as well as her underclassman in Yokosuka, and grew close to her during her school days. She would later become one of the instructors of the school.
The "Mutiny"[]
Furushou was tasked with coordinating the maritime drills for the semester, as well as a mission to ferry a team of scientists to the Nishinoshima New Islands for ecological research.
However, things went awry for the Sarushima crew, when the RATt virus infected her and the rest of the them along the journey, forcing them to attack the unaware Harekaze. The latter was compelled to launch a false torpedo, which landed on the port side of Sarushima. Furushou, who was suffering from the RATt Virus, transmitted a distress call to the mainland, informing them of the Harekaze's "mutiny."
This resulted in Harekaze going on the run, who were falsely accused of mutiny.
The Cure[]
Upon discovery of the RATt Virus and the threat it poses, the Blue Mermaids detained Furushou, the Sarushima crew, and the embarked scientists in the hospital. She admitted to attacking the Harekaze and sending the distress call, but she had no idea why she did such a thing. She was one of the RATt-infected people cured by the vaccine that Minami Kaburagi created.
