Kaos is the main antagonist of the Netflix series Skylanders Academy, which is based on the Skylanders franchise by Activision.
Much like his original counterpart, he is a power-hungry and megalomaniacal dark sorcerer who seeks to destroy the Core of Light and take over all of Skylands. He is one of the greatest adversaries of Master Eon and the Skylanders, most notably Team Spyro. He is also the son of Eon and Kaossandra as well as the adoptive brother of Spyro, Eon's adopted son.
Like his game counterpart, Kaos was voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz, who also played Zim in Invader Zim, Zhencha in Mulan, Lugosi in Bunnicula, the Monster Convict in Superjail!, Crayon Boy in Codename: Kids Next Door, and Moxxie and Crimson in Helluva Boss.
Personality[]
Kaos is a malevolent and sinister sorcerer who takes great pleasure in spreading chaos and darkness throughout Skylands. He often tries his best to earn his mother's approval at the hopes that she will teach him how to become a user of darkness like she is. As he adores chaos, he revels in apocalyptic events, regardless if he caused them or not, that can destroy Skylands.
Also, unlike the game canon counterpart, Kaos appears to have little sense of self-preservation, and rather than sending minions and tricking people into realizing his goals, he does and oversees the work himself no matter the risk, leading to worse punishments when he's eventually caught. Another contrast with his game counterpart is that he idolized the Doom Raiders rather than hating them for their feeble goals to take over Skylands and had a crush on their leader, the Golden Queen, which is evident as he hung up posters of her in his lair.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Kaos was born as the son of Master Eon and the sorceress Kaossandra. Because of his status as the child of a powerful wizard and sorceress (because of the mark on his forehead), his parents knew that this would make him an invaluable possession sought after by evil doers, who might use Kaos just for their own sinister needs and benefits. Thus, Eon and Kaossandra chose to keep their son's identity a closely-guarded secret so they could protect him.
During the Great War, after Kaos's uncle Strykore was sealed away by Koassandra in her spell book of dark magic, however, because of the darkness in the magic she uses to keep her brother-in-law at bay, this forced her to give in to her evil side, thus sacrificing herself to protect all of Skylands. While his father would go on to establish Skylanders Academy and bringing forth a never-ending generation of Skylanders over the years, Kaos grew up in Kaossandra's care. Based on of his memories, it took about 14 years for his mother to toilet train her son, and based on that amount, it was assumed that the process was difficult.
Wanting to become an incredibly powerful dark sorcerer so he could cover all of Skylands in eternal darkness, Kaos, while growing up, began seeking to earn his mother's approval so she could teach him in the ways of the dark arts, though this often failed, as Kaossandra usually mistreats her son harshly and even looking down on him for his desire to become an evil wizard. However, what Kaos didn't know behind his mother's refusal to teach him is so that he won't follow in Strykore's footsteps.
Many years, Kaos (now an adult) would eventually seek to cover all of Skylands in pure darkness and destroying the balance between light and darkness by destroying the Core of Light. This would get him into conflict with the Skylanders and Eon, with Kaos not knowing that the latter is his own father. As Kaos would continuously scheme to defeat the Skylanders and coming up with different plans that would aid him in his goals, this leads to a prolonged conflict with the Skylanders, who would always thwart his attempts at succeeding with his evil schemes, with Kaos noting that he had failed over 314 times.
Quote[]
“ | Kaos: Well, my latest scheme is so stupendously evil that it would be the end of every Skyloser, past, present and future! Behold! [projects a holographic image] Are you beholding? Glumshanks: Oh yes. Kaos: Do you know what this is? Glumshanks: I don't know, the Book of Skylanders? Kaos: You are crushing the guess work today. Every Skylander ever is inscribed in the book, which binds their powers to it for all eternity, so whoever controls the book controls the Skylanders! See where I'm going with this? Glumshanks: You intend to control the book. Kaos: Wow, you are on fire today or at least, you will be soon. Yes, I might have failed 314 times to defeat those fools, but if I control that book, I shall finally prevail. Glumshanks: Right. Isn't the book hidden deep in the bowels of the academy? Kaos: Yes, except for one day a year... Skylander Graduation Day. Eon will have the book at the ceremony to sketch the new Skylanders, and that's when I'll strike! |

“ | No! That's a lie! I'm pure evil, through and through! | „ |
~ Kaos refusing to accept that there is goodness in him. |
“ | Kaos: Who would be believe it, Glumquat? My plan to conquer the world by unearthing an ancient artifact of unlimited power has led me straight into a prison cell. Glumshanks: I know what you mean sir. Not sure why I thought a couple weeks as an informant would've erased decades of being your accessory to evil but c'est la vie. Kaos: And to think, Mother and New Father wanted to turn me good? Blech! Glumshanks: Though, to their point, you did hesitate destroying the Core back when you-- Kaos: We must devise a plan to break out of here and get revenge on Mother and New Father for lying to me all these years. Wouldn't you agree, Glumshanks? Glumshanks Clones: [Exclaim in agreement] Kaos: This is going to be a long prison sentence. |
