Kappa is the turtle and pilot-themed Minor Youkai serving the Youkai Army Corps, the one responsible for the Corps' re-emergence and a supporting antagonist in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger., He serves as the main antagonist of the first episode and the secondary antagonist of the second episode.
He was voiced and played by Shoichiro Akaboshi.
Biography[]
Past[]
Kappa first came to be when humanity's negative emotions physically manifested and formed their own group under the leadership of the most powerful of their kind; Daimaou. One thousand years ago, Kappa was among the army of Yokai who attacked Ninjaman whilst he defended a village. Mappa was evidently able to escape alive but Ninjaman was banished by the Three God Generals as he slaughtered his entire village after mistaking them for Yokai.
Kappa was ultimately among the Yokai who managed to avoid being sealed behind the Seal Door by the Ancient Kakurangers but was reduced to a human form when the Yo Power is sealed with Daimaou. At some point, he met and fell in love with Rokurokubi. Three years before the series, they had a child but he died from being poisoned by human love and kindness; driving Rokurokubi insane as she began searching for anyone that resembled him.
Kakuranger[]
By 1994, Kappa has evolved into a more human-like form and has the intention to release his brethren so they may storm the world and disrupt the peace again after 10,000 years. In order to do this, he catches the attention of Sasuke and Saizou by making three men attack him whilst he holds a bag of money (which are actually his signature cucumbers in disguise) and gives them the money to unseal the Yokai. The naive young men arrive on an island where they see children in traditional clothing surrounding the landscape. The main girl is actually Kappa who leads them further down to the Seal Door where he ambushes them with disguised Dorodoros and tricks them into releasing the Yo Power and re-powering the Youkai whilst Sandayuu Sandayuu watches helplessly.
Having regained his power, Kappa assumes his true form and reveals the Youkai Army Corp's mission before sending Sasuke and Sasuke to a train station to be ambushed by his Youkai. Later, Kappa and some Dorodoros confront the two and Tsuruhime after he realises that they will oppose the Youkai. Once they morph, he sends the Dorodoros to attack but the footsoldiers are defeated so he ambushes Sasuke and Saizou before fighting them. Despite being outnumbered, he maintains the upper-hand and manages to completely wipe them out until Muteki Shogun performs its Blazing Shogun Sword finisher. However, Kappa manages to dodge it before meeting back up with Rokurokubi's head and deciding to withdraw so that he can spend time with her.
Later, Kappa returns to their arcade after getting more cucumbers to find that Rokurokubi has decided that Seikai is their dead son. Even though he initially refuses since they've done this several times, he relents since it will make her happy. After Kappa reveals that the Seal Door is open however, Seikai's friend discovers what they are and warns Seikai so the Youkai reveal themselves and decide to eat them instead. Although they corner the two in a warehouse yard, Saizou and Sasuke arrive so the Youkai assume their true forms and attack with the Dorodoros. However, Sasuke is able to hold off the Youkai long enough for Seikai to escape in Nekomaru whilst Sasuke manages to cut and kick down Kappa who has to retreat. However, Sasuke is able to hold off the Youkai long enough for Seikai to escape in Nekomaru which is able to escape to the quarry even though Rokurokubi tries to pursue.
Frustrated, Kappa and Rokurokubi's head confront them in the quarry and summon Dorodoros with even Rokurokubi's body getting involved before her head attempts to strangle him. However, he morphs and throws her off so an enraged Kappa summons the Youkai Lightning Cloud to enlarge himself and his wife's head. Before he can step on them though, Sasuke returns from the Illusion Castle and uses a Shinobi Scroll to become Red Saruder to fight the Youkai. Despite this, Kappa and Rokurokubi manage to completely overwhelm and defeat the mecha until Rokurokubi's body is destroyed by Tsuruhime's K-Slash. Mortally wounded, Rokurokubi is thrown clear of Red Saruder and Kappa charges at it to avenge his wife only to be sliced in half and killed by Red Saruder's Saruder Slicer.
A replica of Kappa with a pincer claw instead of a right hand is created by Professor Yugami using a child as the core to aid Tengu in his attempt to kill the Kakurangers. Kappa fights and easily defeats Sasuke before being enlarged with the other clones when Tengu gets impatient. Together, they manage to defeat the Giant Beast Generals after Tengu points out that hurting the Youkai will hurt the children but are no match for the Beast General Fighters. All of the replicas cease to exist once Tengu is slain, restoring their hosts.
Kappa is recalled by the Announcer whilst recapping the Kakurangers' war against the Yokai during his feature on the Kakurangers. He is recalled both as awakening the Yo Power early war against the Yokai and in a list of Yokai previously fought by the Kakurangers.
Kappa is seen, along with all the other defeated Yokai, dancing with Rokurokubi behind the Seal Door after Daimaou is finally sealed away by the Kakurangers. Reeling that they are now powerless in captivity, the Yokai all vow that they will one day be reborn and regain their power, cursing humanity.
Personality[]
Kappa was a manipulative trickster who would manipulate others to get what he wanted but was fair as he decided to let Saizou and Sasuke live after opening the Seal Door out of gratitude. However, he showed an angry side when Seikai spurned him and Rokurubi and a vengeful side after Tsuruhime mortally wounded his wife.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Strength: Kappa was able to send Sasuke and Saizou down with single sword slashes. His replica was able to send Sasuke flying with a head-butt and pick up and throw him with one hand.
- Kappunch: Kappa could also double punch with enough force to send Sasuke and Saizou flying off of a cliff with a single hit. Even three kicks to the head from Red Saruder had little effect.
- Durability: Kappa shrugged off two slashes from Sasuke's Kakuremaru as well as two swing kicks without injury.
- Longevity: Kappa lived for over 6000 years between the original defeat of the Youkai and his death.
- Human Forms: Kappa was able to assume the human form of a middle aged man in a pilot's outfit by fading in and out of existence.
- Gender Switching: Kappa could also become a female child at will by fading in and out of existence.
- Bilingualism: Kappa could fluently speak both English and Japanese.
- Skilled Swordsman: Kappa was a skilled fighter with a katana, able to fight and overwhelm both Sasuke and Saizou with ease.
- Object Disguising: Kappa could disguise a pile of cucumbers as a lot of money to trick Saizou and Sasuke.
- Teleportation: Kappa could teleport to any location at will by jumping and instantly disappearing.
- Teleportation Snap: Kappa could also snap the fingers on his right hand to send Sasuke and Saizou flying to a train station.
- Kappa Ninpo:. Kappa mastered several Ninja Techniques.
- Basketball: Kappa could summon a basketball to kick into the enemy with devastating force.
- Phantom Portal: Kappa could surround himself in green energy and jump to travel to any location at will.
- Energy Streaks: Kappa could turn into a blue energy streak to match Sasuke and Saizou in battle.
- Reflexes: Kappa was able to react fast enough to dodge Muteki Shogun's Blazing Shogun Sword finisher by jumping.
- Super Jumps: Kappa was able to jump thousands of feet into the air with a single bound.
- Floating: Kappa was also able to stay airborne after jumping.
- Yokai Lightning Cloud Summoning: Kappa was able to summon the Yokai Lightning Cloud to enlarge himself and Rukurorubi's head with its Yo Power.
- Space Survivability: Kappa was able to fly through space without suffocating.

- Due to the original Zord fight containing a lot of very Japanese imagery, only the replica Kappa was adapted into Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
