Kara Zor-El, also known as The Kryptonian Warrior and later Supergirl, is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Jimmy Olsen) of the 2023 superhero animated series My Adventures with Superman.
Born into the House of El, Kara is the daughter of Zor-El and an unknown Kryptonian woman, and Clark Kent's paternal cousin. She was sent away by her father in the last moments before Krypton fell, the same day when Clark was sent away by his parents. She was later found by Brainiac, following the aftermath of her home planet's destruction then was adopted and brainwashed by him to serve the evil machine as his second-in-command as Warrior of the new empire in his campaign to conquer throughout the universe.
In Season 1, she was voiced by Kari Wahlgren, who also voiced Charmcaster in Ben 10, Haruko Haruhara in FLCL, Mileena in Mortal Kombat, Enchantress in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and Rip Van Winkle in Hellsing. In Season 2, she is voiced by Kiana Madeira, who also portrayed Spencer Young in The Flash.
Biography[]
Backstory[]
Kara Zor-El was born on the planet Krypton to Zor-El and his wife of the House of El. Before the destruction of Krypton, she was placed into a pod by her father in order to save her life, the same day when her cousin was also sent away by her aunt and uncle. Kara was sent just before the explosion.
Kara was later found by Brainiac, an artificial intelligence who assumed control of the Kryptonian Empire, and raised her in order to serve the maniacal A.I as his second-in-command in his campaign to conquer the rest of the universe. It's later revealed that Brainiac brainwashed Kara into destroying civilizations in order to keep her under his control at all time and to keep other planets from rebelling against them by using the eradicator protocol as a fale safe, like Thanagar and H'lven, while wiping her memories to prevent her from finding out the truth.
Season 1[]
In present day, Brainiac and Kara arrived on Euphorix with preparations to conquer it as she begins destroying the civilization. Afterwards, Brainiac receives a signal from an awaken Kryptonian ship on Earth and sends one of his own ships through a portal to Earth. Once Superman manages to stop a second attempt at invading Earth, a surprised Brainiac arrives to Kara/Warrior (who has been watching a destroyed, burning city on Euphorix) telling her that he has found a new planet to invade, although it keeps rebelling against them, the brainwashed Kara then proclaims that they're fine with them rebelling, as sooner or later, they will kneel before them.
Season 2[]
Some time later, Kara receives a message from her cousin, Kal-El, telling her to come find him, which she does. Kara then arrives above the Earth, intending on locating Kal-El. However, this all ended when the real Kara learns the terrible truth that Brainiac is a warmongering tyrant willing to kill those who refuse his rule and that he used the Eradicator to commit horrible atrocities to the worlds he conquered included hurting her cousin and others, resulting to her breaking the programming, redeeming herself, and joining her cousin as the superhero Supergirl.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Kryptonian Physiology: When charged by the energy spectrum of a yellow sun, Kara possesses various superhuman attributes. However, her capabilities are no greater than a normal human of her physical conditioning without it.
- Superhuman Senses: All of Kara's senses are heightened to greater than that, of a normal human.
- Super Stamina: Kara can run or fight for long extended periods of time.
- Accelerated Healing Factor: Kara's metabolism is tremendously enhanced by solar energy, allowing accelerated healing abilities.
- Flight: Kara is able to generate thrust and propel herself through the air, often at supersonic speeds.
- Levitation: Kara is able to suspend herself in the air by floating.
- Super Leaping: Kara is able to leap vast distances through the air, simulating short term flight.
- Heat Vision: Kara can emit focused energy beams of variable intensity and temperature from her eyes.
- Invulnerability: Like Superman, Kara is essentially invulnerable to all Earthly weapons.
- Super Vision: As a Kryptonian, Kara is able to see very far distances, presumably at peak human, or low superhuman levels.
- Super Hearing: Kara has supersensitive ears that can perfectly pick up sounds from miles away and even through structures.
- Super Speed: Kara possesses the ability to move at supersonic speeds, both through flight and on foot.
- Accelerated Perception: When moving at super speeds, Kara is still able to take in everything going on around her.
- Superhuman Reflexes: Kara's reflexes are so fast she can respond to attacks within seconds, much faster than Superman can, as she has overpowered the latter in hand-to-hand combat repeatedly.
- Super Strength: After her awakening, Kara full strength was proven to be considerably greater than Superman's.
- Oxygen Independence: To be added
- Solar Energy Absorption: Kara's powers are not dependent on the energy spectrum from the yellow sun, but she can fill her reserves with solar energy, augmenting her abilities.
- Bio-Electric Aura: Like her cousin Kal-El, Kara can generate a bio-electric aura for defensive purposes. It is yet to be known if hers is different than Superman's.
Abilities[]
- Master Combatant: Kara proves to be much more formidable than her cousin in battle. Having aided Brainiac in conquering other worlds, she has been fully trained in combat and holds a greater advantage in terms of fighting experience than Superman. This allowed her to defeat Superman with greater ease as her inexperienced cousin couldn't fight back properly.
- Infiltration: Kara disguised herself as an earthling in order to search for her cousin Kal-El, and not to arouse suspicion from the humans.
- Knowledge of Planets: To be added
Equipment[]
- Kryptonian Armor: The Armor grants Kara additional abilities such as a boost for her heat vision, a shapeshifting disguise ability, and a face mask to survive inhospitable environments.
- Heat Vision Augmentation: Parts of the suit can break off and focus on Kara's face like a magnifying lens, enhancing her heat vision to the point where it overwhelms Superman's own heat vision and can cause greater amounts of destruction than what her unaugmented heat vision is capable of.
- Voice Changer: The armor disguised Kara's voice so it sounded that a Kryptonian male was operating it.
- Crystalline Container: Kara used this feature to encase Superman and deliver him aboard her ship.
- Holographic Projection: Kara pulled up a holographic screen on her suit's wrist com and browsed through Kandor's layout.
Trivia[]
A brainwashed Supergirl from Young Justice.
- Previously, Kara also acted as an antagonist in Superman/Batman: Apocalypse and in a cameo in Young Justice: Phantoms, as she was abducted by Darkseid and brainwashed to serve as one of his Female Furies until she was saved.
- Kara's character takes inspiration from, and occasionally directly references, the Dragon Ball franchise.
- Her civilian appearance directly references Android 18's appearance during the Cell Saga.
- Her character arc also seems to follow some cues from Raditz from the same series, being a blood relative to the alien protagonist who is disappointed at their kindness and fondness towards Earth and its people.
- Unlike Raditz, Kara eventually realized that she was wrong and also grew fond of Earthlings, making her more similar to Vegeta in that regard.
- Before the reveal of the Kryptionian Warrior's true identity is Kara, some people believed they were General Zod, due to their deep voice and their dialogue involving "kneel", as with the phrase "Kneel Before Zod", but it was eventually debunked when the warrior was confirmed to be voiced by Kari Wahlgren, which shows suspicion for the theory.
- Ironically, before her redemption, Kara is everything people like Task Force X fear about Superman, as an alien who serves as a vanguard for an invasion and pretends to come in peace to lure humanity into a false sense of security before an evil machine mind-controls her into causing destruction on Earth.
