Karen Crawford (née Culpepper) is a major character in the Netflix original series, Paradise P.D. She is the corrupt mayor of Paradise, the abusive mother of Kevin Crawford, and the adulterous wife of Randall Crawford. In Season 4, she also became the mother of Baby Kevin.
Karen is mostly guilty of abusing her mayoral power to get away with unethical things as well as being both emotionally and indirectly physically abusive toward her own son. However, she has shown true guilt and remorse for the latter, multiple times and has shown honest efforts in trying to better herself as a parent.
She is voiced by Grey Griffin, who also voiced Vicky in The Fairly OddParents and Mandy in The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.
Biography[]
The earliest look into Karen's life was shown via flashback from "Parent Trap", where she first met Randall Crawford. Karen was somewhere in her late 20's or early 30's and she was trapped in a burning building and Randall came to rescue her, choosing her specifically because he thought she was attractive. Karen fell in love with Randall too. She was in a relationship at the time with an unseen and unnamed man, who was either her boyfriend or husband. However, that guy died in the building fire at that very moment, which technically made Karen single, allowing for her to get right into a relationship with Randall.
Karen and Randall got married and in the year 2000, had a baby, who they named Kevin. According to a comment Karen made in "Flip the Vote", Karen only carried Kevin for 6 months before getting a C-Section. Kevin spent the remaining 3 months in the NICU and during that time, Karen only visited him a total of 3 times, (once a month).
In 2005, Karen and Randall were having sex, when a 5-year-old Kevin came in, playing with his father's gun and accidentally shot Randall in the testicle. When Kevin tried to put the safety on, he only shot Randall's other testicle, destroying them both, a traumatic incident that horrified poor Karen. As revealed in "Big Ball Energy", Karen attended the war hero funeral of Randall's testicles with her son and began crying hysterically over the loss. However, she never admitted to Randall, how she missed his balls. Over the next few years, Randall acted like an angry, abusive, asshole, who horribly mistreated Kevin and held a misogynistic ire toward Karen. Not liking Randall's new attitude, she decided to divorce him. Karen claimed that the reason why she dumped Randall was because he was a "stubborn, sexist, piece of shit, asshole." (as recited by Kevin in "Welcome to Paradise"). While this may have been true, she failed to mention to him how this was also done in part of him losing his balls. In "Operation DD", one of Kevin's vivid memories that scarred him for life exhibited Karen and Randall finalizing the divorce and Karen making horribly offensive comments such as claiming that their divorce was all Kevin's fault and that she didn't want any custody of him.
During Karen's time alone, she openly welcomed Kevin into her life for multiple visits, despite her previous comments and treated him with love and respect. Karen also ran for mayor, mostly done in spite of Randall, who had previously told her that a woman could never become mayor, most likely sometime after his testicular destruction and before his and Karen's divorce. In 2014, Karen ran against a pig in a t-shirt won the mayoral election. Karen constantly rubbed her victory in Randall's face and never let him hear the end of it.
In "Welcome to Paradise", Karen granted her now-18-year-old son, Kevin a job as a police officer at Paradise P.D. out of love for her son and spite for her ex, but mostly the latter. Karen went down to the police station to rub it in Randall's face. She also introduced to him her new boyfriend, Dr. Dinkle, who she also rubbed in his face. Randall would later try to break up Karen and Dr. Dinkle only to fail miserably. It would soon be revealed that Dr. Dinkle was actually Terry Two-Toes in disguise and he was kidnapping Karen and trying to kill her so that he could steal her role as mayor. Paradise P.D. saved her and Karen was grateful to Randall and decided to try and give him a second chance and offered him a date at The Red Lobster. However, at the end of the episode, Randall ran out of testosterone patches, lost his mustache, and grew boobs so he had to cancel.
In "Ass on the Line", Karen went back to hating Randall again for standing her up on their previously planned date. She would later ban him from studying a murder case but Randall completely defied her.
In "Black & Blue", after Officer Gerald "Fitz" Fitzgerald accidentally shoots himself after firing at his own reflection (due to acute stress and paranoia brought on by his PTSD), the media makes a big issue of this and spins a false narrative that Fitz shot another black man named "G. Fitz" which divides conservative and liberal parties alike in whether or not it was self-defense or a hate crime (even though if Fitz had actually shot another black man, it wouldn't be a hate crime as Fitz had no prejudice against his own race and is dismayed by the senile officer Hopson's racist tendencies). Instead of disregarding what the media is doing as a cry for attention and support to further their respective agendas Karen sides with the left, so she and the town don't get labeled as racist even though it's obvious that the shooting was purely accidental. When things heat up she treats Fitz as two different people both as a victim and and a violent shooter causing Fitz major distress to his already sensitive mental state. She has him unjustly arrested and put on trial which cause Fitz to become severely distressed and temporarily develop a "G. Fitz" split personality. Thankfully Gina and Dusty help by "breaking cable news", diffusing the situation and allowing Fitz to return to work with his recommended therapy tools. This still doesn't absolve Karen of what she did however.

Karen Crawford is an adult Caucasian woman with short red hair. She wears a red mayor suit, skirt, and high heels for her job. She also wears a white pearl necklace and white pearl earrings.
Personality[]
Karen Crawford is a corrupt mayor, who relies on cheap ploys and dirty tricks to keep herself afloat in the polls. Such things range from unethical to downright illegal. During her mayorship, Karen has forced Kevin to stay in a relationship with his abusive girlfriend just so she could test well in the polls, she has encouraged Kevin to lie by omission about the false imprisonment of Dusty Marlow, she's legalized meth just so that people would vote for her, she's engaged in voter suppression, and she banned flipper people to the sewers beneath Paradise, seeing them as subhuman and not worthy of living in her city. Despite being a sinister and lawless mayor, Karen still manages to put on a mask and maintain a strongly professional and confident composure, tricking the masses into thinking she's a good person. Her villainy as a mayor finally caught up with her in "Flip the Vote", when she lost the 2020 mayoral election to Gerald Fitzgerald and she was finally dethroned after a 7-year run as mayor.
Not only this but Karen is an occasionally abusive mother, who, as mentioned before, has forced her son to stay with his abuser, created a city-wide holiday dedicated to abusing him, and has most notably insulted him during his early childhood and even blamed him for her divorce with Randall. However, in "Operation DD", Karen took notice of how horrible a mother she was and unlike with her corruption in politics, Karen actually felt deep and true remorse for how she treated Kevin and took a vow to start treating him better. A promise which she actually followed through on. As of currently, Karen has still kept her promise of being a good mother to Kevin.
Villainous Acts[]
- In "Karla 9000", Karen stole money meant to create a school for the blind to create Karla. Karen turned the blind eye to Kevin being abused by his girlfriend, Karla and even demanded that he stay together with her all just because their interracial relationship was helping her in the polls. However, she did feel guilty about what she was doing and eventually came around to changed her ways to save her son's life.
- In "Parent Trap", Karen and Randall got into a fight and beat each other senseless. After making up, Karen and Randall had their family Thanksgiving together and excluded their son, Kevin shortly after kicking him out of the house, when he had little to no preparation for living on his own. To add insult to injury, she invited a homeless person on the streets (Hobo Cop) to have Thanksgiving dinner with them, favoring him over Kevin. Randall even mentioned, "Everyone I care about is here.", knowing that Kevin was absent.
- In "Big Ball Energy", Karen got mad at Kevin for proving Dusty's innocence and legally made a national holiday called "Kevin Sucks Day", which was all about insulting and mistreating Kevin. In the same episode, she fell in love with Agent Clappers and started hitting on him, despite being married to Randall at the time.
- In "Flip the Vote", Karen hit the epitome of her villainous behavior, among a slew of terrible decisions she made in this episode. Not only did she legalize houndstooth meth in order to keep herself ahead in the polls, but when Fitz ran against her, Karen resulted to tons of unethical and even illegal actions in keeping herself ahead in the polls, including banning a specific race of people from her city and also engaging in voter suppression, which involved her creating a racially biased voting system that would ensure that no flipper people would be able to vote for her. By doing this, she lost the respect of her son, who called her out on her terrible ways, not liking who she became. In the end, Kevin voted against her and as the only person in the city who actually voted, he singlehandedly led to the mayoral dethroning of his own mother as well as Fitz's rise to becoming the most powerful villain in Paradise.
- In "Operation DD", it was revealed that Karen was insanely verbally abusive toward Kevin when he was 5, blaming her divorce with Randall entirely on him, vehemently refusing any custody of him simply because she didn't like him, and even passively and overtly insulting him multiple times. When Karen and Randall looked through these memories, they felt extremely guilty about how horribly they had treated their son and made an honest vow to change for the better, a promise which only Karen followed through on.
- In "Trigger Warnings", Karen compromised her prinicles for money, accepting a bribe of thousands of Russian dollars from Chip Fuckyeah in exchange for him invoking dangerous gun laws on her town, which endangered her town's citizens and directly led to a shooting at the airport, which ended with the genocide and extincton of the smart guns.
- In "How the Cookie Crumbles", it was revealed that Karen cheated on Randall once with Bullet. Bullet told Kevin that Karen got drunk and let him eat peanut butter off of her vagina. Later in the episode, Karen was surprised to find out that she was pregnant, despite having an impotent husband, as she quietly shooed Bullet out of the room, implying she remembered her sexual foray with Bullet and kept this a secret from Randall. This makes her guilty of both adultery and bestiality.
- In "Blind Drunk", Karen bought moonshine illegally, during prohibition. When she drank it, it caused her to go temporarily blind. Karen faked being sighted in front of Randall so that he wouldn't know that she had been drinking. During this time, Karen was tasked with driving a schoolbus full of children and she went through with it. Karen crashed into a bunch of stuff, ran over Yucko the Clown, and landed the schoolbus in the water before she finally confessed to Randall that she was blind on account of her drinking.
- In "Blimp City", Karen brought up how as a high-schooler, she gave birth to a baby in the bathroom on prom night and abandoned it in the toilet. Fortunately the baby survived and found a family and would eventually grow up to be none other than Blake Shelton.
- In "The World According to LARP", Karen threatened Randall that she would do a belly flop into an empty pool, while pregnant, so that she could damage their unborn child, unless he did her bidding.
- In "What Happens in Twatemala", Karen conned Robby and Delbert out of a share of their land so that she could build a casino. With this casino, Karen suckered a bunch of people out of their money, so that she could fund the Rebuild Paradise Initiative.
- In "The Brozone Lair", Karen practiced parental favoritism, treating her newborn son, Baby Kevin with more respect than her older son, Kevin, who she renamed "AFKAK", (short for "Asshole Formerly Known as Kevin"). On her first day back at work, Karen kept having a mental breakdowns and pressed the big red button on her desk, activating a nuclear bomb to blow up Paradise (again) several times but Anton kept having to stop her.
- In "Diddy's Home", Karen hired known rapist, Bill Cosby to play the role of Gerald Fitzgerald to impress Elon Musk when he came to down. Randall had to put a stop to this, claiming that even she needs to draw the line somewhere.
- In "A Star is Porn", Karen looked for more wealthy plutocrats to help franchise in Paradise and rebuild her town. She turned to known white supremacist and cocaine addict, Michael Lindell and promised to look the other way if he ever did any coke on the job and cover it up from the masses. She even offered to fluff him just to get his business. Strangely enough, although she was willing to make this deal with him, somehow hiring Jeff Bezos was still beneath her as he was too evil, even for her. This could suggest that, at least to a degree, Karen took Randall's advice of "drawing the line somewhere" from the previous episode to heart.
- In "Good Jeans", Karen finally struck a business deal with Charles Lovely, who was clearly an extremely shady and sinister businessman, who was up to nothing but malicious malpractice. Either Karen was oblivious to this or just didn't care, so she hired him to franchise Lovely Corp in Paradise, anyway. She also allowed Charles Lovely to build his corporation right on top of Robby and Delbert's property, screwing them out of their land a second time.
- In "The Butt Cut", Karen sold Paradise to Charles Lovely for $10,000,000 and allowed him to ban her son, AFKAK, from the town, without batting an eyelash.
- In "King of the Norf", Karen got high on all of Bullet's drugs and started going on various tirades all around town. First, she showed up at a museum and started having sex with a dinosaur skeleton, destroying it in the process. Second, she showed up coked up on Anderson Cooper and made obscene comments about demon worship. Third, she broke into a church and danced around naked with the corpse of the governor's son at his funeral before vomiting blood all over him. Finally, Karen randomly chomped into Anton's face and tore his entire head off, using nothing but her teeth, instantly decapitating and killing him on the spot.
- In "The Eternal Reckoning", a flashback showed Karen running over and killing Kevin's pet dog. Evading responsibility as usual, Karen lied and said that his dog was a rapist.

- Karen was only pregnant with Kevin for six months before demanding a C-Section and having her still unborn child live out the remainder of his third trimester in an incubate in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). Because of her incompetence in keeping her baby for a full nine months, Kevin was born with translucent eyelids.
- Karen has admitted to having a sexual past with Barack Obama and has claimed to have even slept with him to convince him to let her write the series finale for Game of Thrones.
- Karen is a fan of Big Mouth. In contrast, she hates Brickleberry, even though her character was partly adapted from the Brickleberry character "Nina Melcher", who was the governor of of Hazelhurst (which itself is the Brickleberry counterpart of Paradise).
