Karen Daniels (formerly know as Michelle) is a supporting antagonist of the action/dark video-game Grand Theft Auto IV and a minor antagonist in the 2013 sequal Grand Theft Auto V and a major character of its follow-up multiplayer Grand Theft Auto Online.
She is a deceptive and patronizing person who was previously a undercover agent before 2013 but after that she became a IAA agent assisting the GTA Online Protagonists with the Humane Labs Raid and torturing Ferdinand Kerimov for information that he apparently did not know.
She was voiced by Rebecca Henderson.
Biography[]
Background[]
Before Karen became an undercover agent, it is implied that she may have had criminal activities in her past due to United Liberty paper saying that "He gave her life back and some paper (money)" and that in return, she does undercover work for them. Whether or not she was blackmailed into doing undercover work against Niko is uncertain but she obviously grew attached to him due to "being a much more respectful person then most of the creeps she dated".
Grand Theft Auto IV[]
In 2008, Karen was sent to take down Elizabeta Torres and to spy on Niko Bellic through posing as a friend/girlfriend to get information on his past. She started by becoming friends with Roman Bellic's fiancée, Mallorie Bardas around the same time Niko came to Liberty City. She and Mallorie were then picked up by Niko at Roman's request and Mallorie suggested that her and Niko date, as Michelle seemed interested in Niko telling him "she wants to get to know him" but is told by Mallorie Niko should get some new clothes first.
During their first date, the two go to a bowling alley and after that, Niko can take her out on as many dates as he wants. Depending on the two's relationship, they can either become cold and distant or can eventually progress towards sexual activity.
When Niko is on a mission to get drugs for Elizabeta, he brings the drugs to Little Jacob but Michelle is also there too. Michelle reveals that she is working for the government and has been watching over him as an undercover agent. Furious at this, Niko calls her a bitch but reluctantly hands over the bag of drugs to Karen and the two obviously break up.
The two meet one last time when Karen takes Niko to the United Liberty Paper offices. Karen expresses remorse for betraying Niko and tells him that she thinks he is a nice guy and better then the creeps she normally dates. After being dropped off, Niko asks the U.L.P boss what Karen's reward for bringing him in was and he replies that "They gave her life back" hinting at possible coercion and past crimes.
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
Five years after GTA IV, Karen is now a high ranking IAA agent who needs important information from the Humane Labs. She gets together with Agent 14, who brings the Online Protagonists back together for the mission, starting with getting the Keycards needed to enter the server room at Humane Labs. Karen asks the crew if they were involved in the Fleeca Bank robbery and if they are then what they are getting into now "Is a whole different ball game". After getting confirmation that the crew are honest, Karen hands the keycards over the the buyer but the FIB attack them, killing Karen's bodyguard and leading to a shootout with the FIB agents and the Online Protagonists. Karen flees and gets away but the Online Protagonists manage to retrieve the keycards and escape back to the leaders apartment.
During the heist finale, Karen tells the group that they have had their fun "and its time to put the toys back in the box and go to bed". The protagonists then meet Karen and give her the important information from the labs and tells them that they were the easiest men she had to order in the field saying "all she had to do with give them a couple bucks and a few nice words" while saying they are stupid and that their usefulness had just ran out. She offers one of the protagonists a grenade to destroy the evidence but another protagonist takes it after the other refused. She then walks away after the Valkyrie helicopter had been blown up.
Grand Theft Auto V[]
In a short appearance in the mission "Three's Company" Karen is seen torturing Ferdinand Kerimov with a torch and threatening to shove the torch so far up his ass that his tonsils will be making shadow puppets unless he tells them what they want to know. Ferdinand denies knowing anything which leads to Karen hitting him with the torch again. Michael De Santa then smashes through the window and takes Kerimov hostage which leads to Karen fleeing, requesting backup and possibly escaping the building. She is no longer seen again after this mission.
Personality[]
Before her time as a IAA agent, Karen was a deceptive but still caring person who despite tricking Niko, felt remorse for this as she had grown fond of him. However by the time she became an IAA agent, Karen became ruthless, arrogant, condescending, and manipulative revealing she was using the Online protagonists to get the information and that their usefulness had just ran out while also calling them stupid for no reason at all. She also is shown to be somewhat cowardly, always fleeing whenever a shootout could occur rather then staying to help her men and becoming craven at any sign of danger.
