Karen Travers is the main antagonist in Scarlet Nexus and its anime adaption. He is the former Major General and one of the most powerful member of the Other Suppression Force who holds the ability to absorb psionic called Brain Eater until his betrayal towards the OSF. He is the older brother of one of the SAS companions, Luka Travers. Like his brother, he is used to be a dud until he was experimented with powers.
He was voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama in Japanese and Armen Taylor in English.
Personality[]
Karen was originally a goodhearted and thoughtful person who cares deeply for his friends including his childhood friend and fiancee (Alice Ichijo). He doesn't usually takes orders from the New Himuka Government but was doing to fight Others. He doesn't have a good relationship with his younger brother, Luka Travers.
However, when Alice seemly disappeared, Karen was driven to madness to become a coldhearted and merciless when he is willing to do everything to bring Alice back simply by time travel (only needed to absorb Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall's red strings). He doesn't care for anyone even if they either work for him or doesn't trust him (mainly Kasane).
Karen is also manipulative when he killed Yakumo Sumeragi, the founding father of the Sumeragi Family and used his mask to disguise himself as Yakumo to manipulate the Sumeragi descendants in his revenge.
Despite his unstable actions, Karen shown to be honorable. He is willingly to recruit Yuito and his Platoon to Seiran when he informed them that the New Himuko Government has branded Yuito and his friends as traitors as well given Yuito a canteen to drink (whether it is human's brain or blood) in order to live or he would lost all of his memory and power. He saved his best friend, Fubuki Spring from the Suoh's OSF who were sent by the New Himuka Government.
When he was defeated by Yuito and Kasane, Karen is also suicidal when he is going to the Kunad Gate to unravel the entanglement from Chronos Terminal even when he sacrifice his life which has saved Alice (but his existence was erased)

Past[]
Karen once has a good life with his childhood friends Fubuki Springs and Alice Ichijo. Much like the protagonist, Yuito Sumeragi, Karen and his brother, Luka were born without Psionic powers meaning they were duds. They were taken to the OSF Hospital to be experimented with Psionic. Karen acquired Brain Eater, while Luka has teleportation ability. Karen and Fubuki became the Major Generals who are known as Septentrions while Alice became a scout. One day during their mission, Alice seemly turned into an other and suddenly disappear. Through this tragedies, Karen became ruthless and coldhearted to swore revenge on the people from the moon and planning to save Alice to prevent her from turning into an Other. He assassinated the Sumeragi Founding Father, Yakumo Sumeragi and disguised himself as Yakumo by using the mask to manipulate Suoh in order to further his goal.
Boss Battles[]
In the first boss from the Kunad Highway, Karen fights the new recruits and used the brain field until the fight ended when the timer of his brain field expired.
In the second the boss battle in Arahabaki (only in Yuito's storyline), Karen fought Yuito and his Platoon. Until his health is half, the cutscene show Karen use red strings and almost erased Yuito's memories.
In the final battle, Yuito, Kasane and their platoons fight against Karen. When in his health is drop to zero in the first phase, use brain crush to defeat. In the second battle, Karen later assemble four statues from his emotions. Use the mask to draw out the statue that keep Karen and attack him once his health drop to zero, use brain crush to defeat him again in the second phase. In the final phase when cut off from your allies, you must fight Karen long enough for your allies to arrive. When all (except Yuito/Kasane when the player chose one of the two playable characters) arrive to help you, Defeat Karen when his health is lower than before.
