Biography[]
At The Church Of The ReTransfiguration Karl holds a sermon to his congregation when he must cut it short when representatives of Pharmakom show up.
Later on after tasking him with killing Johnny Mnemonic, the Yakuza led by Shinji fail (alongside security forces for Pharmakom) repeatedly to recover the cure for Nas from courier Johnny and cybernetically enhanced body guard Jane (due to members of anti-establishment Lo-Teks and their leader J-Bone) the head of Pharmakom Takahashi contacts Karl to personally recover Johnny's severed head. J-Bone and the Lo-Teks see him on the prowl hunting Johhny and Jane before going to their last known location and tortures cyborg Hooky for information on their whereabouts by submerging his prosthetic hand into liquid nitrogen and then smashes it before presumably killing Hooky off-screen. Upon discovering Johnny and Jane have gone to Spider's clinc, Karl corners them while they're in a makeshift ambulance van and despite being struck and run over by Spider struggles to his feet seemingly unfazed.
Karl then follows them to the clinic, murdering a patient on a gurney and then sending them speedily straight into the room. Johnny, Jane and Spider are in as a distraction before Karl bursts in and a struggle ensures with Jane, who helps Johhny escape as Spider struggles in vain with Karl. Karl starts interrogating him on where they would be heading as he slowly tortures Spider to death by crucifying him. After Johnny and Jane have since reached the Lo-Tek base Karl later shows up during the yakuza and Takahashi and his security forces laying seige to the place (with Shinji and his followers dead along with said security forces and Takahashi now dying) with Karl intending to decapitate Johnny and personally take his head to Pharmakom while torturing Jane with her own implements trying to crucify her only to be interrupted by Johnny who soon is overpowered by Karl. As he is about to behead Johnny, Jane aims the satellite dish attached to code-breaker dolphin Jones' tank at Karl and a sonic blast from Jones ruptures Karl's many implants. As he clings to a live wire for support, Johnny swings a severed live power line straight into him causing Karl to be electrocuted to the point he bursts into flames all the while in a mock crucified pose before collapsing in a smouldering skeleton. Soon after a now skeletal Karl seemingly rises up behind them, but it's revealed the Lo-Teks are just hoisting him by a hook over to be dropped into a lake.
