Don't they look desperate brother? If only we could make this last. -Rinda

You never change sister, still playing with your food. -Rodin

There's no flavor, without sport! -Rinda

~ Rinda and Rodin's most famous quote said just before their boss fight.

The Karnak Twins are major antagonists in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

Biography[]

Weaklings! You wouldn't last a day in the 6th!
~ Rinda when injured

Rinda and Rodin Karnak, better known as "The Twins", are two native Tertium born soldiers of the Moebian 6th guard regiment. The two were born of immense status and wealth, both taking extreme delight in making life hell for those they viewed as lesser than them, a habit that they continue to do as traitor guardsmen. Eventually, the two joined the Astra Militarum, becoming part of the Moebian 6th regiment. After the Moebian 6th turned traitor and fell to chaos, The Twins joined suit, with them pledging themselves to the Chaos Gods, with Rinda pledging herself to chaos undivided and Rodin pledging himself to Nurgle, as evident by the marks on their helmets.

Due to their ferocity, cunning, and strength, they were made into the two head Lieutenants under Captain Wolfer. The two worked together under Wolfer, looking to conquer Tertium and bring the populace under the worship of Chaos. The two proved to be effective, killing countless squads and butchering all they came across. Under their belt, they held a habzone under their control, overseeing the production of distribution of blighted stims across the hive city. Eventually, Rodin established himself as the new "King of the Torrent District", a title previously held by an unknown person.

The two began hunting down squads of reject troops sent by the Imperium of Man, hunting and killing countless squads. Should their defenses have failed, they would drop down a toxic smoke grenade and retreat. After Explicator Zola caught wind of the two in the torrent district, she sent a strike team to hunt them down. The Twins ambushed them at several points, but each time they were fended off. They employed various tactics such as preparing ambushes with their troops and laying toxic gas traps. Despite this, the rejects kept coming. The two of them faced down the squad, eager to have them slaughtered, but despite their best efforts, The Karnak Twins both died in combat.

If one looks closely at the cutscene of the twins death, the player can notice Rinda's hand twitch, implying that she may have survived the encounter. Assuming this is not simply nerves twitching as the body dies, it may be possible Rinda may return to blight players again.

Appearance[]

Both the twins dress similarly, with them both adorning metal armor and both having skulls on their belts, likely from previous victims. Rinda has the mark of chaos undivided on her helmet, implying that she worships all four chaos gods as a pantheon rather than pledging herself to a single one. Rodin on the other hand has the mark of Nurgle on his helmet, meaning he serves Nurgle, this would explain his use of diseased gas as biological warfare is a common tactic amongst Nurgle worshippers.

Neither of the twins are seen unmasked, but it can be assumed that they are both scarred due a mix of chaos worship, and war related injuries.

Personality[]

Both of the twins are heavily sadistic, taking extreme delight in the slaughtering and butchery of anyone loyal to the Imperium of Man. The two also take delight in making life difficult for anyone viewed as lesser than them, a habit gained through their former rich lifestyle.

Through dialogue, it is heavily implied that the twins partake in cannibalism, with both wishing to "tenderize" rejects and put them in "the cauldron". The twins share a strong bond to one another, both encouraging each other constantly. The two however seem at odds at times. Rodin comments on his annoyance with Rinda "Playing with her food", and Rinda will call her brother weak should he die in combat.

Skills and Abilities[]

Oh I love tox gas!
~ Rodin whenever tox gas floods the room.

With the two being veterans, they both possess extremely potent combat prowess. The Twins are incredibly durable, able to take a tremendous beating before finally succumbing to their injuries. Rinda possesses excellent swordsmanship, able to easily cleave through her opponents with her powersword, and using her agility to quickly close gaps and cut down foes. Rodin on the other hand prefers to stay at range at melt foes with his plasma pistol, while using blighted gas grenades to sap at the strength of loyalists in his path.
