Karzac: She called out your name as she died, you know?
Professor Oubier: What? What are you saying?
Karzac: And then they thought you'd done it. It all worked perfectly.
Professor Oubier: You? It was you? You bastard! You monster! For the love of God, Karzac.
Karzac: Which one?
~ Karzac confessing to Professor Oubier he killed his wife, moments before killing Oubier.

Karzac is the primary antagonist in Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror.

He is the head of an international drug cartel whose main goal is to enable the release Tezcatlipoca, the Aztec god of night, warriors and sorcery.

He was voiced by the late Pierre Hatet.

Personality[]

Karzac was a sadistic and goal-driven psychopath. He saw himself as godlike, wanting to release Tezcatlipoca into the living world. He is violent, angry and evidently uses people, such as Professor Oubier.

Physical appearance[]

Karzac has a very strong jawline and white hair. He dresses often in military uniform and has blue eyes. He has tanned skin.

Biography[]

Background[]

Karzac became a cult leader in South America at some point, as well as the head of an international drug cartel. Whilst being investigated by Nico Collard, she takes a white package, believing it to be cocaine. Instead, she discovers she has taken the Coyote Stone, one of three stones needed to release Tezcatlipoca.

Realising that this was gone, and that Nico had stolen it, he ordered her kidnap.

Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror[]

Karzac interrogates Nico in a dock in Marseilles to little avail. Whilst looking for Nico, George Stobbart discovers that Karzac is the head of Condor Transglobal, a company responsible for shipping Mayan and Aztec artefacts. George traces the company to its warehouse which is a cover for an illicit drugs ring, and eventually finds Nico rescues her. It is revealed that Madame le Presidenta has been working in tandem with Karzac to aid his drugs business.

After Nico arrives in London to locate the Jaguar Stone, she finds it at the British Museum. However, it is then stolen by Professor Oubier who uses his status to take it. Oubier returns the stone to Karzac. Nico follows Oubier to a dock, where she eventually is able to get on and see him speaking to Karzac. It is revealed Karzac lied to Oubier about his motives for the stone.

Karzac then reveals to Oubier that he has been using him to get the stone, and that he killed Oubier's wife and had him framed. Karzac revealed he needed to get Oubier addicted to drugs in the aftermath so Oubier would do what Karzac said. Karzac then reveals a pistol and shoots Oubier now that he is no longer of need to Karzac. After leaving to tell Pablo Oubier is dead, Nico enters and examines Oubier's body. She finds the Jaguar Stone and takes it. Karzac returns, and begins to strangle Nico. Nico pulls out a knife she has in her jacket pocket and stabs Karzac in the knee before escaping as Karzac fires at her.

Karzac is last seen in the game's denouement. After solving many puzzles and getting to the centre of the Aztec pyramid, Karzac is seen offering a blood sacrifice to Tezcatlipoca by slicing himself across the chest. As he does so, it is revealed Madame le Presidenta also supports the release of Tezcatlipoca. Tezcatlipoca manifests, and impales Karzac with a spear which causes his skin and flesh to melt off, killing him.
