“ | Mano y Mano, Brock. You know how I spent my endless days?!... I spent them thinking about how you only told ONE side of the story... You didn’t write about the part where Cletus was abused by MOMMY, DADDY, AND GRANNY!!!.. You didn’t tell the world how he was a scared little boy that no one cared about and NO ONE CAME TO SAVE! | „ |
~ Cletus explaining his true origins about his abuse at the hands of his family. |
The Kasady Family are the overarching antagonists of the 2021 Sony's Spider-Man Universe superhero film Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
They are Cletus Kasady’s dysfunctional family who abused him when he was a child, driving him to kill his mother and grandmother and be sent to St. Estes's children's home.
Biography[]
Mr. Kasady and Louise Kasady got married at some point and had a son, Cletus, who they did not want. Cletus was stillborn, but the doctors were able to revive him. Some time afterward Cletus's parents and grandmother began to physically abuse him by beating him, which drove Cletus to lose his innocent nature and kill his grandmother by throwing her down the stairs and his mother by electrocuting her in the bath. He then attempted to kill his father, who subdued him and beat him within an inch of his life before handing him into the police. As Cletus was a juvenile, he was not tried for the murders, instead being sent to St. Estes's Home for Dysfunctional Children.
It is unknown what happened to Mr. Kasady after sending his son, Cletus, to St. Estes Home for Unwanted Children, but it is likely that he passed away before the events of Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
Trivia[]
- Although none of the family appear onscreen outside of Cletus's drawings, they can be considered indirectly responsible for the events of the film, as without them, Cletus Kasady may not have grown up to become a sociopath and so would never have become a serial killer and come into contact with Carnage. He would also have never met Frances Barrison, who he first met at St. Estes's when she defended him from some bullies.
- In comics, whether Kasady family were as abusive as their Sony's Spider-Man Universe iterations was left ambiguous at best because of Cletus' unreliable recollections pertaining to them. This didn't help by the confirmation of Cletus' psyche being reshaped by Knull who revived him as a newborn to be a hoax perpetrated by Cult of Knull all along;
- Kasady's grandmother in one account was simply a fan of Mary Poppins, much to Cletus' disgust that he destroyed her collection before killing her. Another account went to explain that she's a wheelchair-bound abusive old woman whom Cletus killed as vengeance for berating him simply because he bought her the wrong brand of cigarettes.
- Account pertaining Cletus's mother was similarly debatable; his biological mother was a paranoid schizophreniac who died after giving birth to him and that Louise Kasady (the owner of the dog Fifi Cletus mutilated) was his foster mother. Louise herself was either an abusive or loving mother.
- Lastly, Mr. Kasady, whose status as either step-father or birth father of Cletus left ambiguous, was similarly remembered as either abusive or loving as his wife; he either killed his wife when she attempted to defend their son or trying to mediate the fight between the mother and son over the latter's aforemention murder of their pet dog only for things escalated culminated to Louise Kasady's tragic demise.
