The Count Kasino, Kasino or nicknamed “Tire-Bouchon” (means corkscrew in french) by Jadina was a major antagonist of the french comic book series Les Legendaires/The Legendaries of it's Volume 2 spin-off of the Origin: Jadina and Volume 13 of the main. He is the son of the countess Invidia, nephew of the queen Adeyrid and the cousin of the princess Jadina and Tenebris. Since after his mother’s “suicide”, Jadina gained deep hatred from him thinking it was her cousin’s fault for her death.
Appearance[]
Kasino is a tall man with a muscular build, long black hair surpassing his chin. He grew the right side of his hair to hide his eye purposely that he got injured as a child. He also has a string of hair being seen on top of his hair being the reason Jadina nicknamed “tire-bouchon”. He usually wears a long red and blue royal attire, white pants and a pair of long red boots. He also carries a sword on the left side of his vest.
At the near end of the Voluem 2 of the Origins spin-off series, Kasino was shown wearing a grey version of his usual attire when visiting his mother's grave.
Personality[]
Like his mother Invidia, he shares a similar nature to her being arrogant, cruel and cunning. He shows no hesitation at doing devious actions in order to achieve his goals.
However that not always the case. As a child Kasino had a less dangerous nature and actually cared about Jadina before he was left alone in the room with the cracolac where he lost his eye. Because of this he now despise his cousin also including for the cause of his mother, thinking that it was her fault that she commited “suicide”. History[]
Origins, Volume 2: Jadina[]
Kasino is seen at the window with his mother watching the king of Sabledoray Salim IV and his son Halan’s arrival at Orchidia to visit the kingdom. They offered to queen Adeyrid a creature known as a Cracolac which was locked inside a cage. Fascinated by the creature, his curiousty leads Kasino to go on and check the creature that was locked inside the basement. He then confronts his cousin Jadina who with Halan who also had the same idea. Jadina however did not want to go to see the creature, to which Halan and Kasino calls her a scary cat. As they enters the basement they see that the cage has been somehow opened and that the creature was no longer inside the cage. Kasino is then suddenly attacked by the Cracolac who jumps on his face, causing Jadina and Halan to flee the place, leaving Kasino alone with the creature. Kasino was later on seen uncounscious in the hospital with his eye badly damaged by the animal.
Kasino was saved by guards and was treated by Professor Vangelis who manages to save him but however not for his damaged eye. His mother, Invidia upon learning this, thinks that Jadina was behind his injuries. Kasino agrees with her by stating that she was the first one that discovered the cage. However he thinks that she unintentionally opened the cage, which was later on revealed to be false. With his time time that he spend on a wheel-chair with his mother alongside him, Jadina deeply apologized even though it even her in the first place that opened the cage. This touched Kasino despite still he still pissed at her.
In his 18th birthday, Kasino received bodyguards twins under the name of Baraka and Bakara as his birthday presents in order to reassure his safety and status as loyalty. He is then seen at the casino, spending times gambling where he is seen to be very good at it and enjoys mocking others that he plays against. This causes the players to get irritated and tries to give Kasino a lesson but is however knocked out by his bodyguards. The head of the guards and the king’s brother Cylbar then arrives telling him that should be present for the ceremony of the Eagle-Staff of cousin Jadina as a member of the royal family. Kasino appears uninterested but then find it amusing when he hears that Jadina went missing and left the kingdom by riding an Insector.
After the return Jadina, he still goes anyway to the ceremony despite despising her. He had exceptation that she had potential of being accepted by the Eagle-Staff but to his suprised she is blowned away by the object rejected the princess, which embarassed Vangelis. Kasino assures if Jadina didn’t had any majure injuries inside her room. Upon exiting her room, he notices Kasino who was near the entrance and asks him for why is he here. Kasino tells him that he was just making that his dear cousin was alright.
Another day he is seen training with the guards. His arrogant behaviour was unwelcomed among them because of his action of injurying one of them. He then suggets at his opponents to have a fight against one of his Barakas to which a man under the name of Golgo proposes. Kasino orders Bakara to take care of him, only a half minutes later the tall man is almost instantly defeated by the woman.
A few days later his mother tries to declares to his son that she set up a plan that would cause Jadina’s death. To do so, Invidia suggets her son to aid for her conspiracy, by using the loss of his eye that he thinks was caused by Jadina and for him to get revenge. At the shower while thinking he realizes that his mother was right and later on tells her that he agrees to set up a trap would end her. First Kasino ordered his body guard to kidnap the professor Vangelis and drug him in order to force to write a letter of false informations that is mean to be Jadina. At the same time that day, the entire city was announced for the zoo to be opened and that the plan on triggering for the animals to escape. A moment after doing so, he realizes that he cannot simply let Jadina loses her life only for the reason to increase the chance for her mother to gain the throne.
He goes to zoo while all the animals comes out of their cages causing chaos to the place. He and his bodyguards arrives just in time to save Jadina and Vangelis from a few dagerous animals that almost reached them. Before leaving, Kasino reveals to Jadina that he was drugged, making her to realize that he is behind all of this. Moments later the same animal that Kasino confronted as child that caused the loss of his right eye appears, now having grown in an enormous size. This makes Kasino to go insane and start laughing, wanting to take kill the animal by charging at him despite its gigantic size. Jadina then appears in front of him where she somehow was able to carbonize the the animal by using the Eagle-Staff that appeared out of a sudden at her hand. At this moment, officials arrives on the place. Jadina shows him the ring that she think that can be presumably be behind everything that occured. Kasino realizes that it belongs to his mother which causes him to get arrested and interrogated by the guards. Moments later Invidia was announced dead at a certain place. Many citizens, including Kazino around believes that she commited suicide after falling off from a place of great height because of Jadina.
Due to being involved with the incident, Kasino is sent behind the bars and is unable to be present at the funeral of his mother whose graveyard is digged at a place that is mean for the worst criminals of the kingdom. He is then freed from the prison when no clues were able to prove his link to the cause of the incident at the zoo. He takes a visit at his mother’s grave where her title and status as a royal was removed. Jadina then meets him to apologize for the loss of Invidia. In response Kasino simply rejects her and declares that she would never be forgiven by him and that he will leave the city today. His aunt, the queen Adeyrid accord him territory of Orchidia that is far away from the capital.
Main Series, Volume 13: Royal Blood[]
He makes his next appearance in Volume 13 of the main series. It was announced about that queen Adeyrid was very sick. Hearing this the count Kasino and the Legendaries arrives at the Orchidia in order to find a cure and solution fo rthe problem. Kasino arrives sooner than the Legendaries did. Suprised by her arrival, he stares at Jadina with a menacent look. A private reunion is then hosted that consisted with Kasino, the professor Vangelis, Jadina and including Tenebris.
To their suprises she reveals the true relationship of Tenebris. That she is in reality the older sister of Jadina as well as the daughter of hers who was kidnapped soon after her birth by the Dark Sorcerer Darkhell. Because of that she is also a candidate for the place for the throne and that in case if none of her daughters can replace her statue on the throne than it will go to her nephew the count Kasino, which would also put an end to the traditions of having magicians queen.
At night Kasino sends his bodyguards, the Baraka to spy on the Legendaries. They report to Kasino that the Legendaries plans to explore the mines of Emeraudia where they could find a cure fot the queen. Doing this would destroy the opportunity of Kasino taking the throne of Orchidia, which leads him to secretely follow the group of heroes inside the caves. The first night as they sleeps inside a cabins, the Baraka sets up an assassination attempt to kill the heroes by causing giant boulders to fall into the cabin. The attempt however fails, to which Kasino blame his bodyguards out of anger, calling them useless. A few days after, the Legendaries accidentelly confronts Kasino alongside his bodyguards. Shimy decides to use her abilities of Elementary Fusion while professor Vangelis warned her to not. This caused the cave’s sealing to collapse, killing Kasino’s two bodyguards.
Soon after as the group reunite they found Kasino murdered by Jadina who pierced her hand inside the count’s body, which in reality it was Tenebris that killed the man with her blades that she is equipped with and that the legendaries’s vision have actually been hallucinated by professor Vangelis in order to make them see a different person.
World Without, Volume 19[]
In the World Without timeline, he is a director of the prison known as Barek. He tries to make a deal with Darkhell to tell him about dark magic known as Maginetique. In return he will increase the time limit before his death row, to which he refuse the offer.
World Without, Volume 20[]
He was killed alongside other members of the prison by Abyss later on in Volume 20.
Trivia[]
- His first name, “Kasino” presumably comes from the word “casino”, because of his hobby of gambling in a casino that he later on shows as he grew up.
- Kasino never knew that the true idendity of the person who opened the cage of the Cracolac was none other in fact than Kalandre, the overarching antagonist of the series. She did this in order to assure that Jadina would obtain the Eagle Staff, which would contributes to her future goal later on in the series.
