Kazuya Togami is the main protagonist of the second volume of the Danganronpa: Togami side novel.
Kazuya is the culprit behind several murders in this novel.
Kazuya is an illegimate child that was considered an impostor by his other siblings, given that he was not considered one of the valuable children of the Togami Family, being considered trash even by the head of the family, Kijou Togami, his father.
Personality[]
Kazuya is an extremely insecure boy, ever since Kazuya lost his family because of his brother's job as a hitman, Kazuya clinged to the Togami name to have something to live for. Kazuya also was extremely protective towards his sister, Shinobu Togami, since she was the only Togami that treated him as family.
Because of his obsession towards the Togami name, the only thing that gives him most despair is being called an impostor, which he is called a lot by his siblings, since he was not even supposed to be in the competition, and was one of the many "invalid" children that Kijou had and because of that, he developed an identity crisis, not knowing if he really should be considered a Togami or not, and being indecisive in regards to his relationship with his sister.
This eventually makes him trade his identity as Kazuya Togami with a Kudan, calling himself Byakuya Togami from that point, given that the Kudan told him that Byakuya would be the one to win the competition to be the heir of the Togami family.
Once Kazuya reveals himself as the culprit, he reveals himself to be a quite remorseless murderer, having had killed two of his brothers because they simply provoked him too much or because they threatened to reveal him as the killer.
His protectiveness towards his sister also takes a dark turn, when it's revealed that he holds sexual feelings towards her and eventually sexually assaults her, even after she has been mutilated by one of the twins, justifying on his head that because they are not blood siblings, it is fine to have some "legitimate" love with her, making him one of the most unstable and depraved villains in the novel.
However, Kazuya also has some standards, especially in regard to his aforementioned brother, the Ultimate Hitman, Suzuhiko Ootsuki.
Kazuya held him in contempt, since he killed his entire former family for money and also because he frequently sexually assaulted Shinobu.
This makes him something of a hypocrite, given that he also sexually assaulted Shinobu.
History[]
Kazuya was once a villager in the Kuchinashi Village.
At some point, his brother, Suzuhiko Ootsuki was hired to burn down and destroy this village, and so he did.
Kazuya was the sole survivor of this incident, and the burning of this village was strange because no corpses could be found, and Kazuya was presumed deceased.
After the burning of Kuchinashi village, Kazuya was adopted by Michiko Furuhata.
