Keanu Taylor is a major character of the BBC British soap opera EastEnders, serving as one of the main protagonists in 2017-2020, a major protagonist in 2022, one of the secondary antagonists in 2023 and the overarching antagonist of 2024.

In his characterization, Keanu is a member of the Taylor Family who was the eldest son of established character Karen Taylor and her abusive ex-boyfriend Shane respectively. He is also the eldest sibling of Karen's five other children, the stepson of Mitch Baker, the former brother-in-law of villain Gray Atkins, the ex-fiance of Louise Mitchell, and the father of both their daughter Peg Mitchell and his other son Albie Watts respectively.

During his time on the show, Keanu had worked for the square's local hardman Phil Mitchell; had a relationship with his daughter Louise to the point where they produced a girl named Peg; embarked on a lasting passionate affair with Phil's beloved wife Sharon Watts to the point where he got her pregnant with their son Albie Watts. It was then during Keanu's second stint that he developed anti-heroic traits upon displaying a more cunning and devious streak in the midst of rebuilding his relationship with Sharon and being engaged to her for most of the year 2023.

He is portrayed by Danny Walters.

Biography

Prior to making his debut at Albert Square in Walford, a fictional borough in East London itself, Keanu Taylor was born on 23rd April 1999 by his parental figure Karen and her abusive boyfriend Shane respectively.

From then onwards, Keanu had a rough upbringing due to his father's neglectful and abusive nature to the point where the latter was eventually sent to prison for stabbing Karen as well as committing other crimes. Following his father's imprisonment, Keanu grew up with Karen and her new lover Mitch Baker to the point where they produced a daughter named Chantelle and a son named Keegan altogether. It was then Karen produced another daughter named Bernadette along with two more boys, Chatham and Riley, on seperate occasions. During that time, Keanu helped his mother raised her other children and acted out as a loving brother to them all along with Mitch's own daughter named Bailey.

In June 2017, Keanu arrived on the square with his family. Their presence caused disturbance and annoyance among the residents due to their disruptive behavior, and the situation intensifies when Karen informs Keanu that Bernadette is pregnant, and Keanu expresses his support for her. Karen pressures Keanu to talk to Bernadette about the father of her baby. Karen mistakenly overhears a conversation between Bernadette and Keanu, leading her to suspect that Keanu might be the father. Karen confronts Keanu, questioning his paternity, which deeply hurts him. Keanu admits that the father is someone from Bernadette's year at school.

Upon stumbling upon flyers for Arthur Fowler's memorial bench, Keanu realizes they need to secretly return the bench without getting caught. A social worker visiting Bernadette discovers that the Taylors stole the bench, and later, PC Jaz Jones arrives to arrest Karen, but Keanu intervenes and stops him. Keanu receives a warning for the bench theft and is disappointed to learn that he won't be hired full-time after completing his apprenticeship at the mechanic firm. He searches for job opportunities, apologizes to Arthur's children, Michelle and Martin Fowler, for the bench incident, and learns that Ben Mitchell isn't hiring when he inquires about work. Keanu expresses his determination to find a job and avoid relying on benefits.

Linda Carter, the landlady of The Queen Victoria, advertises for bar staff, and Keanu submits his CV to Linda and her husband, Mick Carter. Linda offers Keanu a trial shift, but he is sent home by Fi Browning, the business consultant of The Vic, which upsets Linda. Keanu then secures employment through an agency but contemplates applying for benefits when the bailiffs threaten to visit their home. When Ted and Joyce Murray discover they have been burgled, Ted accuses the Taylors, leading the police to question them. Keanu assures Ted and Joyce that his family had no involvement in the break-in and offers to board up their window as a kind gesture. Keanu convinces Bernadette to attend teenage parenting classes, and he decides to join her. Unfortunately, Bernadette experiences a miscarriage after a gas explosion, devastating the entire family. Struggling to find stable employment, Keanu considers becoming a nude life model for an art class, but he is shocked when his neighbor Ingrid Solberg attends the class and discovers his role. Tempted by the potential earnings, Keanu contemplates joining an escort agency and seeks advice from Kathy Beale. He goes on a date with a client named Julie, where they both admit to being new to the escort industry, and Julie opens up about her past marriage.

Keanu catches the attention of Aidan Maguire due to his physical strength and is recruited to assist in a robbery alongside Phil Mitchell, Mick, and Vincent Hubbard. Bernadette, who works at The Albert collecting glasses, overhears their plans but agrees to keep it a secret. Before the job, Keanu considers quitting when he learns he will only be paid £1,000, but Aidan assures him of a higher payout. During the heist, Mick gets shot, and the money goes missing. Aidan instructs everyone involved to stay away for two weeks to avoid police suspicion, and they gather later, wondering who took the money. Aidan asks Keanu to dispose of a box containing Luke Browning's teeth, but it ends up in Phil Mitchell's possession. Phil hires Keanu as a mechanic, and on his first day, he encounters Mitch Baker, his half-siblings' father. Keanu works on Mitch's van and warns him to stay away from his family, falsely claiming they don't reside on Albert Square. Mitch returns later and calls for Karen and Keegan at the flat, leading to a physical altercation with Keanu. Karen brings Mitch home despite Keegan, Keanu, and Bernadette's objections, causing tension in the household. Keanu is appalled by Karen's decision and confronts her, while Mitch brings up Keanu's father. Karen attempts to discuss Keanu's father reluctantly but fails, instead confiding in Mitch about her past encounter with Keanu's father, where she was stabbed.

Keanu starts working for Phil, and a bond forms between the two as Phil sees Keanu as the son he never had in Ben. In late 2018, Phil abruptly leaves for shady business dealings in Spain, leaving Sharon and her son Dennis frustrated. Feeling neglected by Phil, Sharon finds solace in Keanu and they began an affair in September 2018.
