~ Kei Himuro

Kei Himuro is the secondary antagonist in the 2006 science-fiction psychological thriller anime film Paprika, based on the 1993 novel of the same name.

He is the former Tokita Kōsaku's assistant, who helped him create the DC Mini, a device that allows one to enter dreams, but after his product was a success, he became very jealous of him.

He is voiced by Daisuke Sakaguchi in the Japanese version and Brian Beacock in the English dub.

History[]

Tokita, the creator of the DC Mini (a device that allows to enter into dreams) recognizes his assistant, Kei Himuro, which seems to confirm their suspicion that the DC Mini theft of three of the prototypes was an inside job. After two other scientists fall victim to the DC Mini, the Chairman of the company Tokita and Himuro work for, who was against the project to begin with, bans the use of the device completely. This fails to hinder the crazed parade seemingly created in Himuro's dream, which manages to claim Tokita, who was inside Himuro's dream trying to find answers, and intrude into Konakawa's dream. Paprika and her boss, Doctor Shima, take matters into their own hands, and find that Himuro is only an empty shell. Tracing the "roots" that controlled him, Paprika confronts the Chairman, who is aided by researcher Doctor Morio Osanai.

Trivia[]

  • When captured, Paprika correctly guesses Osanai offered himself sexually to Himuro to gain access to his DC Mini, a detail hinted at earlier when Osanai passes a "Hard Boys" magazine (a possible reference to a popular Japanese gay publication called "G-Men,") in Himuro's apartment and regards it with disgust, later becoming so overwhelmed by being reminded of the act he threats her with a needle to the throat.
