Kelpshake are the main antagonists of the SpongeBob SquarePants episode “Best Frenemies”.
They are a corrupt restaurant chain that quickly gain popularity in Bikini Bottom and cause Mr. Krabs' profits to go down. So he and Plankton attempt to steal their formula.
When Mr. Krabs realizes his profits are going down, he finds out that the new restaurant, Kelpshake, has been selling a beverage called a Kelp Shake that is making Mr. Krabs lose the money the customers usually spend on drinks. Mr. Krabs believes the owner to be Plankton at first, but Plankton proves him to be wrong. The Kelp Shake restaurants then start to multiply, and Mr. Krabs and Plankton realize that they are on every block.
When Mr. Krabs and Plankton obtain a Kelp Shake and try one, they realize that the Kelp Shakes have an ingredient in it that make them grow yellowish-green fur all over their bodies. Soon everybody is affected with the same symptoms, and for this reason, the restaurants are shut down and forever closed down as the city sucks each one dry of the hazardous materials used for their drinks.

The fact that the buildings can multiply, the hazmats sucking out the toxic waste out of the buildings instead of the buckets, which presumably kills the buildings, likely implies that the buildings are alive.
