Kelvin Inman is a minor antagonist in the 2004 television show Lost. He is a former Army intelligence officer who later joins the DHARMA Initiative, and has a major impact on the lives of both Sayid and Desmond.
He was played by Clancy Brown.
History[]
Kelvin is first seen in "One of Them" in Sayid's flashback to the Gulf War. He is tasked with interrogating Sayid's superior officer Tariq to obtain the location of a missing pilot. When Tariq won't talk, Kelvin meets with Sayid and manipulates him, showing him footage of his home village being gassed on Tariq's orders to turn Sayid against him. He gives Sayid a box of torture tools, and Sayid tortures Tariq until he reveals the pilot had been executed. When Sayid expresses guilt at having to do this, Kelvin says he now has a new set of skills, and whenever he needs information he will know how to get it. He further reveals that he can speak Arabic, meaning he was capable of doing the interrogation he forced Sayid to do.
He was kicked out of the army, presumably for violating the Geneva Convention, and joined the DHARMA Initiative. He was partnered with Radzinsky in pushing the button in the Swan station every 108 minutes to keep the world from ending, but Radzinsky went mad and blew his brains out. Later, Desmond crashed on the island during a boat race and Kelvin found him. Seeing an opportunity to escape the island, he lied that Desmond's boat couldn't be found and tricked him into staying in the Swan for three years by claiming there was an infection on the surface. In truth Kelvin had found Desmond's boat and was fixing it, intending to leave Desmond stranded. However, Desmond noticed a hole in Kelvin's suit one day and followed him, learning there was no infection. Kelvin revealed he deceived Desmond because he needed "a sucker" to keep pushing the button. Desmond flew into a rage on hearing this and assaulted Kelvin, accidentally killing him. These events had critical consequences as Desmond leaving the Swan unmanned due to Kelvin's actions resulted in a system failure, causing the crash of Oceanic flight 815.
