Villain Overview

Are you listening, Sukuna? It is beginning once again. The world of Heian. The golden age of cursed techniques!
~ Kenjaku exclaims after leaving Shibuya.
Ha Ha! So what? We have different objectives. I do not wish for a world without cursed spirits. Or an idyllic and peaceful world. Non-sorcerers. Sorcerers. Cursed spirits. These are all possibilities…. of cursed energy in the form of human beings. And yet... there must be more… to human potential. I tried to bring that forth myself. But that doesn’t work. What I can create… does not exceed the bounds of my own potential. The answer is always… flickering darkly in chaos. Do you understand? What I should have created was chaos that not even I could control.
~ Kenjaku monologuing to Yuki Tsukumo whilst fighting the sorcerers in Shibuya.

Kenjaku, also known by his host's name Suguru Geto, or Pseudo-Geto, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Ryomen Sukuna) of the manga/anime series Jujutsu Kaisen. He is the creator/"parent" of both Yuji Itadori and Choso, and the latter's arch-nemesis.

Kenjaku is an ancient sorcerer and curse user who survived throughout ages by using his cursed technique to possess others by transplanting his own cranial brain into their bodies forcefully. His ultimate goal is to merge all of Japan's people into a monster made out of cursed energy, simply to satiate his curiosity. At one point in time, Kenjaku controlled the body of Noritoshi Kamo and became known as "the evilest sorcerer in history". During another of his lives, he inhabited the body of Kaori Itadori and gave birth to series protagonist Yuji Itadori for the purpose of creating a vessel for Sukuna.

In the present day, Kenjaku inhabits the body of the special grade curse user Suguru Geto. He was seemingly killed by Yuta Okkotsu when he was distracted at the end of his battle against Fumihiko Takaba, although the penultimate chapter implies he might have been resurrected by the latter.

In Suguru Geto's body, Kenjaku is voiced by Takahiro Sakurai in Japanese and by Lex Lang in English. Sakurai has also voiced Griffith in Berserk, Suzaku Kururugi in Code Geass, Sasori in Naruto, Poseidon in Record of Ragnarok, Shogo Makishima in Psycho Pass, and Patry in Black Clover. Lang has also voiced Elrik Vonreg in Star Wars Resistance, Dr. Neo Cortex in Crash Bandicoot, Louie Kaboom in Power Rangers Zeo, Rygog in Power Rangers Turbo, Ecliptor in Power Rangers in Space, Zen-Aku in Power Rangers Wild Force, Doto Kazahana in Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow, Captain Cold, Heat Wave and Atomic Skull in Justice League Unlimited and Doctor Polaris in Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Both actors also voiced Geto.

Appearance[]

It is unknown what Kenjaku's original body looked like. He can only be distinguished by the stitches and scars that circle the top of his vessel's head. These are from the procedure required to transfer Kenjaku's brain, his only personal feature, into his host. Unlike a normal brain, Kenjaku's has teeth.

His appearance as Noritoshi is that of an older man with short black hair, slicked back, and a small moustache. He has scars on his forehead due to implanting his brain into other people's heads. In the body of Suguru Geto, he has the same appearance of the man he had before his death, his forehead split by a scar with the stitches sewn into it.

Personality[]

Kenjaku was initially introduced to act much on the same manner as Suguru Geto, whose body he was inhabiting, being outwardly calm, cheerful, and relaxed. However, his dismissive and callous attitude towards the lives Jogo took revealed a much more sinister undertone to his personality, and made it clear that he is not on the side of the ‘good guys.’ Furthermore, he does not seem to care about the Disaster Curses either, as he dismissed Jogo’s near-death at the hands of Satoru Gojo, merely telling him he’s lucky that’s all he got. Still, he appears friendly with the Disaster Curses, assisting them with their plans, hanging out with them in Dagon’s domain, and playing board games with them. In the end, the Disaster Curses and Kenjaku shared a common goal: to have curses emerge victorious. It was Kenjaku who recognized early on that they needed to seal Satoru Gojo. Overall during some moments Kenjaku behaves nothing like Geto and manages to maintain his disguise by keeping his distance from those who knew Geto personally. His international presence and previous identity as "Noritoshi Kamo" enable him to blend in seamlessly and act as a legitimate international ambassador of Jujutsu, hidden in plain sight, especially within the Jujutsu Headquarters' outdated mindset.

By the end of the Shibuya Incident, Kenjaku’s persona is shed to reveal his core personality: a cold-hearted, cruel, morbid, manipulative, sarcastic, remorseless, egotistical, and exceptionally intelligent psychopath with a complete lack of empathy, who is committed to ‘evolving’ humanity, cursed spirits, and cursed energy as a whole.

The only thing Kenjaku cares about is his goal, and his fondness towards others extends only to how useful they are towards himself. Kenjaku monstrous experiments delved into inhumane curiosity; he aborted a woman nine times in order to produce the Death Painting Wombs, yet when Choso and his brothers could not surpass his own potential, Kenjaku abandoned them. In his fight with Choso in the Tomb of the Star Corridor, Kenjaku had no problem beating Choso, his ‘son’, with the intent of killing him, all while calling the Death Painting wombs failures. Kenjaku possessed a dead woman, Kaori Itadori, in order to give birth to the perfect vessel for Sukuna. However, given the fact that Yuuji Itadori has never met either of his parents, it is very likely Kenjaku not only abandoned him, but murdered his father, Jin Itadori. Kenjaku allowed hundreds of sorcerers throughout his vast 1000 years of living to allow him to transform them into cursed objects so that they could live on after death; however, he did this for the sole purpose of one day enacting the Culling Game. After the Shibuya Incident, he allowed the past sorcerers to reincarnate for the sole purpose of having them slaughter each other so that he could take advantage of the cursed energy. This led to the deaths of hundreds of sorcerers, thousands of civilians, and many others, such as soldiers from America who entered the Culling Game colonies.

Kenjaku, despite his evil nature, is not a menacing and intimidating nor as sadistic individual like Sukuna, and is instead an incredibly cunning and treacherous manipulator.

As Noritoshi Kamo, he was noted to be a cruel sorcerer, the black sheep of the Kamo clan and the evilest sorcerer to ever live. His experiments were so disgusting that the files on records were almost erased. When he took over Geto's body it seems that he has adopted many of his mannerisms and his laid back attitude. He believes that humanity's next step in evolution is optimizing cursed energy by coming cursed spirits and human users together.

Powers and Abilities[]

As a thousand-year-old sorcerer, Kenjaku possesses incredible knowledge about curses, cursed techniques and the jujutsu world. He was stated by Tengen to be the second most powerful barrier user after himself. During his possession of Noritoshi Kamo, he became known as history's evilest sorcerer, and he is able to create special grade cursed objects Cursed Womb: Death Paintings thanks to his experiments.

In Suguru Geto's body, he has led a group of incredibly powerful special grade curses and made them into a functioning team capable of being a great threat to the Jujutsu world and Japan. He makes great use of his current cursed technique, arguably more knowledgeable about it than its original user.

  • Genius-level intellect: Kenjaku's greatest asset is easily his exceptional intelligence and planning. Kenjaku can lay plans which are so advanced, they can span millennia before coming to fulfillment.
  • Hand-to-hand combat mastery: Due to his more than 1000 years of existence, Kenjaku has amassed a variety of experience with hand-to-hand combat. This was proven when he contended with and overpowered Choso in a battle of pure physical blows.

In the modern age, he is the mastermind behind Mahito's group and the entire Shibuya Incident, including the eventual sealing of Satoru Gojo. He is the reason why the group was even able to function, due to the vastly opposing nature of the cursed spirits' personalities. Kenjaku masterminded the attack on Jujutsu High and is the organizer of the Culling Game and its rules.

The only hindrance to his planning seems to be the Six Eyes, but he has seen a way around that in the modern age. He is a skilled manipulator, as he planned to make Mahito and Jogo grow, only to absorb them, something that he achieved with the former, but not the latter due to Sukuna killing him. Due to his intelligence, he can quickly deduce the strengths and weaknesses of cursed techniques and has a deep, fundamental understanding of Jujutsu.

Jujutsu[]

  • Energy Manipulation: Kenjaku has massive amounts of cursed energy. This is evident by his effective use of Cursed Spirit Manipulation, a cursed technique that can only be used to its full potential with vast amounts of cursed energy. He is confident that he can take on the cursed spirits in his group. He absorbed Mahito without needing to impose any conditions on himself, further proving his massive amounts of cursed energy. A reverse cursed technique processes negative energy into positive energy by taking two sources of cursed energy and multiplying them by one other. As a result, the energy that destroys becomes energy that creates, and negative energy becomes positive. Kenjaku uses the reverse cursed technique to heal Suguru Geto body after transplanting his brain into Geto's body.
    • Healing: The most common reverse cursed technique, though still quite rare, was the ability to heal the physical wounds sustained by oneself or another. By applying the creative nature of reverse cursed energy to damaged or lost flesh, it could be replaced with new undamaged cells. Kenjaku was highly capable at using reverse cursed energy to heal his wounds.
    • Possession: Some jujutsu sorcerers were born with the inherent ability to use a specific cursed technique, known as an "innate technique," which could often be used solely by them or members of their family. Kenjaku had an innate technique that allowed him to take permanent control of another's body, whether they were alive or dead, by transplanting his brain into their skull. Kenjaku gained access to all the memories, cursed energy, and innate techniques of his host body, allowing him to pass himself off as whomever he was inhabiting. The only outward tell-tale sign that Kenjaku was inside a person was a horizontal stitched scar across the forehead where the transplant had occurred. It was through his innate technique that Kenjaku was able to survive across the centuries, as each time the body reached old age he merely had to transfer his brain once again.
      • Cursed Spirit Manipulation: The innate technique of his most recent body, Suguru Geto, was "Cursed Spirit Manipulation." Cursed Spirit Manipulation allowed Kenjaku to gain complete and permanent control of cursed spirits. Control was gained by turning a curse into a small black sphere and devouring it, though defeating or otherwise dominating it was a prerequisite to that. The more powerful the curse, the harder it was to dominate. There was seemingly no limit to the number of curses that could fall under the command of Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Because each curse that could be called upon had its own strengths and techniques, Cursed Spirit Manipulation was an exceptionally versatile innate technique capable of all manner of offensive and defensive feats. The most powerful application of Cursed Spirit Manipulation, save for its Domain Expansion, was the the extension technique "Maximum: Uzumaki." Maximum: Uzumaki consisted of summoning and combining a massive amount of cursed spirits to create a black sphere of congealed curses that could be fired at an opponent as a projectile, dealing a devastating massive amount of damage in a singular instant. Furthermore, if a powerful enough curse (typically semi-grade 1 or higher) was used in Maximum: Uzumaki then Kenjaku would be able to use any innate techniques it had possessed, though he could only use them a single time.
        • Soul Manipulation (briefly): After using Maximum: Uzumaki to expel Mahito, Kenjaku gained the ability to use his innate cursed technique: "Idle Transfiguration." Idle Transfiguration allowed him to manipulate his own soul or the soul of others. The physical shape of a being was dependant on the shape of its soul, and so by melding a lifeform's soul Kenjaku could freely meld its body into whatever shape he pleased. The only major requirement to shape another's soul and body was physical contact. Kenjaku used up his single use of Idle Transfiguration on Tengen's barrier, which allowed him to remotely alter the souls of people across Japan in preparation for the Culling Game.
      • Gravity Manipulation: In addition to Cursed Spirit Manipulation, Kenjaku was also able to use "Antigravity System," the innate cursed technique of Kaori Itadori. Antigravity System allowed Kenjaku to use cursed energy to decrease or completely negate gravity in a radius of roughly two meters around himself. By applying reverse cursed energy to the technique, which Kenjaku tended to do more often than not, he could increase the pull of gravity instead. Antigravity System's affect lasted for around six seconds at a time before needing to recharge.

Equipment[]

  • "Prison Realm, open".

    Prison Realm seals Gojo Satoru

The Prison Realm seals Gojo Satoru away.

Prison Realm: A special grade cursed object containing a barrier capable of sealing absolutely anything or anyone inside of an inescapable pocket dimension. It was the crux of his plan to seal Satoru Gojo in Shibuya. The plan took place on October 31st in Shibuya, and sealing was completed according to Kenjaku's plan. Kenjaku is the bearer of the "front gate" of the Prison Realm. As the bearer, only he has the authority to open the "back gate" of the Prison Realm, which was in the hands of Tengen. However, it is possible to unseal the target from the realm by breaking it open with a cursed technique that can cancel or nullify other cursed techniques.
  • Commissioned Curtains: These are the cursed objects that can be programmed to activate barriers with special conditions.

Unknown person[]

400 years ago, Kenjaku transplanted his brain with his innate technique into an unknown person's body. He used this vessel to make Binding Vows with past sorcerers, particularly with Hajime Kashimo.

Noritoshi Kamo[]

At some point in the past, Kenjaku transplanted his brain with his innate technique into Noritoshi's body. As Noritoshi Kamo, Kenjaku experimented with the fusion of human flesh and curses, starting with a woman with a special genetic composition capable of giving birth to a half human-cursed spirit hybrids, Which resulted in her having nine pregnancies and nine abortions, resulting in the creation of the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings.

While in this body, Kenjaku also mixed in Noritoshi's blood into the Death Paintings, resulting them gaining access to the Kamo clan's inherited Blood Manipulation Innate Technique or blood manipulation based variation techniques due to becoming their third "parent".

Kaori Itadori[]

At some point in the modern era, Kenjaku transplanted his brain with his innate technique into the body of Jin Itadori's wife: Kaori. Posing as her, Kenjaku used her body to mate and give birth to her son: Yuji Itadori to serve as Sukuna's vessel in the Culling Game. It remains unclear how long he inhabited her body.

Suguru Geto[]

In 2017, after Suguru Geto's defeat at the hands of Yuta Okkotsu, Kenjaku transplanted his brain with his innate technique into Suguru's body and has taken Geto as his host body, effectively giving Kenjaku access to all of Geto's memories, skills, and jujutsu. This is where he could now apparently access all of Geto's techniques.
