~ Kevdak to his herd when he orders them to attack someone. |
Kevdak is a supporting antagonist in the first campaign of the D&D web series Critical Role, serving as the main antagonist of Episode 51, "Test of Pride", and Episode 52, "The Kill Box". He is also one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Anna Ripley) of the second season of its animated adaptation The Legend of Vox Machina.
He is the uncle and archenemy of Vox Machina member Grog Strongjaw, as well as the father of Zanror and the leader of the Herd of Storms, the roving barbarian herd from which Grog originated.
He was voiced by Ralph Ineson, who also played Chris Finch in the UK version of The Office, Dagmer in Game of Thrones, Ralf in First Knight, Amycus Carrow in the Harry Potter film series, Connor Perkins in The Hurricane Heist, SkekMal in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Jim McAlester in Gunpowder Milkshake, Dean Possey in To Catch a Killer, and General Andrews in The Creator.

The Family Business - The Kill Box[]

The Legend of Vox Machina[]
Kevdak first appears in the episode “Into Rimecleft” where Grog is having a dream about fighting warriors in an arena with the Craven Edge, only to learn that he has killed his friends and stabbed Pike. Kevdak then appears and congratulates the horrified Grog by telling him that he has made the herd proud.

Personality[]
Kevdak is a sadistic savage who takes enjoyment out of slaughtering defenseless people just to enforce his superiority. He takes a lot of pride in the enhanced strength that the Titanstone Knuckles provide him and uses it as fearmongering to both his victims and his herd.
Kevdak is insanely dishonorable on top of that. When Grog challenged him to one on one combat, Kevdak kept on the Titanstone Knuckles despite the fact that Grog was in a clearly weakened state, which was completely unnecessary since Kevdak was already bigger than Grog naturally.
He only regards his herd as useful tools to wreak havoc for him, but has no real affection for them beyond that. He has no value for family either, as he beat his nephew Grog within an inch of his life for betraying the herd, calling him weak "Like [his] father before [him].", indicating he hated his own brother too. He tried to do the same to his son, Zanror when the latter objected to his dishonorable leadership.
Kevdak has a sense of pragmaticism though. When he's face to face with an adversary more powerful than him, like a dragon, he works for them to buy himself time to find a way to raise the stakes against them, like he did when under the rule of Umbrasyl.
