Biography[]
During a trip from South America to the US, a passenger plane crashed in the Mexican rainforest due to engine and GPS failure leaving 10 of the 11 passengers alive. The lone flight attendant is the only passenger who does not survive.
Among them are:
- The pilot who is severely injured,
- Kevin Anderson: a former doctor and medical equipment salesman
- Zack: an insurance investigator
- Sonja Blair: a photographer.
- Amy Maclean: a rich heiress with PTSD, having witnessed a school shooting as a child.
- Dan Maclean: Amy's husband and the Maclean family chauffeur.
- Carlos García Méndez: a professional wrestler who is also a skilled mechanic.
- Travis and Lisa Davies: a couple who own a chain of motels and are avid hunters.
As the pilot is injured with a collapsed lung, Kevin operates to save his life at the pressure of Zack and Amy. Despite stabilising him, overnight the pilot dies. Lisa, who used to work as hospice worker, points out that she believes he was strangled to death as she had witnessed a neglectful mother strangled her own son to death as she could not handle parenthood, and recognised the injuries as being caused by strangulation.
Whilst waiting for rescue, Carlos reveals his mechanical skill and suggests that they use the plane's black box to build a makeshift signal transmitter to call for help. At the same time, Travis reveals that he and his wife are returning from a hunting trip back from South America and proceed to hunt a monkey to make dinner for the group.
After the group eats the monkey, Travis seemingly dies from food poisoning. Lisa becomes more suspicious that there is a killer amongst them after Dan points out that someone must have poisoned him with wild mushrooms from the forest. Zack and Amy also discover that someone is stealing their food supplies. Eventually, Whilst setting up the transmitter, Sonja discovers that Carlos was the one that stole the food, arousing suspicion. That night, Carlos has his throat slit by a mysterious figure.
That morning, Lisa discovers her bullets have been stolen, leaving her with only one. Amy also discovers that her husband is not a chauffeur and confronts him, to which he reveals that he used to be a human smuggler before deciding to reform and marry Amy for love, despite wanting to moose off her in the beginning.
During the night, the group discovers that the ceiling of the plane has been hollowed out to store 3 million dollars worth of cocaine, indicating that the passenger plane is used to smuggle drugs. Amy wanders into the woods, and is nearly killed by the mysterious figure, however Lisa intervenes. Amy returns to the camp as Lisa confronts the attacker. The conditions cause her to lose track of the killer, who appears behind and strangles her with the rifle, killing her.
As tensions rise, Sonja produces a pistol and satellite phone which are believed to belong to Zack, who had hidden the gun. At gunpoint, Zack reveals that he is a DEA agent who was tasked with investigating a drug smuggling operation from South America, but no one believes him. Sonja also reveals her true identity as an investigation journalist who wants to expose the human and drug smuggling in South America. The group tie Zack up and torture him to try and gain the code for the phone. However Sonja later frees him whilst the group is asleep.
Deciding to go to check on the transmitter, Amy and Dan separate from Kevin, Zack and Sonja. They are later discovered by Sonja, having been stabbed to death. Zack and Kevin arrive and a standoff ensues. Suspecting Zack was the culprit, Kevin decides to stay back at the camp while Zack and Sonja go to check the black box. However, as they leave, Kevin is shot death by an unknown assailant. Zack and Sonja find a body without a face, having fallen face down into a pond of barracudas. The body is wearing Kevin's clothes, and they deduce it is him.
When they check the black box, they see that someone has sabotaged the signal. Hearing a noise, Sonja separates from Zack and is attacked in the fog by the killer. Zack is backed to the edge of the cliff and shot, supposedly falling to his death. The killer then reveals themself to Sonja before shooting her to death.
The Mexican army receives the earlier distress signal from the black box and mounts a rescue operation. Finding the wreckage, they discover that nine passenger bodies are arranged neatly near the plane and suspect there is a tenth passenger still alive. In the morgue where the bodies are now stored, a man tears out the body bag and it is revealed to be Kevin. It is revealed that he was the one that responsible for killing off the passengers and sowing distrust among them to cover his true identity as a drug smuggler. It is also revealed that the pilot of the plane is also part of the smuggling operation too, and that Kevin killed him due to distrust.
The airline which the plane is used by is revealed to be a shell company operated by Kevin's girlfriend, Cora De Léon. Cora disguises herself as a DEA agent and helps Kevin escape from the morgue. At the same time, Zack's wife, who is also a DEA agent, arrives in Mexico to find her husband. Miraculously, Zack turns out to have survived the fall and is rescued. He pieces together the events and figures out that Kevin was the culprit all along.
Kevin, now believing he is in the clear, reveals to Cora that he masterminded the acts such as stealing Travis' pills, stealing the food and water, and killing the other passengers to prevent them from discovering his identity and purpose. He then swapped clothes and places with Dan, pushing his body into the barracuda pool to prevent Sonja and Zack from identifying that the body was not his. He finally overdosed on Travis' Beta Blockers so as he could be pronounced dead, but not before stowing the blocks of cocaine inside the bodies of the other passengers, using them as drug mules.
Kevin eventually poisons Cora to cover his tracks after he realizes she cheated on him with the pilot. As he winds down operations and pays off his employees, he prepares to fly away with the 3 million dollars worth of cocaine.
Zack, having figured out Kevin's plan, arrives at the airfield where Kevin's escape plane is, and shoots at him as he takes off. Kevin seemingly manages to escape. As he celebrates his escape, he discovers that much to his horror, Zack's gunshot has ruptured his fuel tank and his plane has run out of fuel as a result, directly over the Mexican Rainforest. He gives a final smirk as his plane begins to fall from the sky. His fate is left uncertain.
