Kevin Hadley is the main antagonist of the Chicago Fire trilogy episode "Prove It", "Defcon 1", "A Nuisance Call". He is a serial arsonist, who is responsible for the destruction of several fires, including that of Peter Mills' family business.
He was portrayed by William Smillie.
Biography[]
Overview[]
Abandoned by his father as a teenager, Kevin grew up to have issues that'd a reach a breaking point.
As an adult, he became a firefighter as and joined the Rescue Squad 3. He worked well with his fellows and had a good standing with his fellows. However, he was a bully to many candidates but he believed it was in good fight, even though he was reprimanded on several occasions.
Unknown to his fellows, Kevin was secretly a serial arsonist and started several fires. However, he would avoid detection, as nobody ever witnessed him on scene.
In the first two seasons, he mostly serves as a bully to candidate Peter Mills, sometimes nearly causing a conflict but it would always get settled. When his bullying finally reached a breaking point, he was forced to transfer to another firehouse.
A Problem House[]
To get revenge for his dismissal, Hadley started a series of fires, which led Firehouse 51 to suspect a serial arsonist. Hadley got personal revenge by burning down the Mills Family Restaurant and destroying Severide's car, while spray painting Severide's badge number on a wall. As a result, the house began to make a link with the fires.
Prove It[]
While investigating the links, Severide realized it was someone with a vendetta against the house. Soon Hadley came under their suspicions, once they deduce the arsonist had suffered loss (Hadley being abandoned) and he likely held a grudge against them for dismissing him.
When he was confronted with this accusation, he neither denied nor confirmed, simply stating "prove it".
Defcon 1[]
Hadley arrived at the Firehouse, saying nothing much but mostly stayed there to have an alibi. When Mouch was running for Union Rep, he accused him of turning his back on firefighters like him. He made a scene at the debate.
Much later, another fire starts and Firehouse 51 responded. He was personally confronted by Severide, who caught him in the act. Knowing he would go to prison for being exposed as an arsonist. He threatens to drop flammable liquid that would kill everyone in the building. This causes Severide to beg his former subordinate to reconsider, calling him by his first name but this doesn't move him. Just as he moves to act on his threat, he accidentally drops the bottle on himself and is set alight. Severide quickly acts to help him, as the others find the pair and join in helping Severide save the former firefighter. He was later taken to a hospital.
A Nuisance Call[]
Hadley ultimately survived the fire, stood trial, and was found guilty. As a result of his severe burns, he suffered scars on the right side of his body and forced to walk with a limp. It can be presumed he suffered from chronic pain, as well.
While incarcerated, he received an anonymous letter regarding details from a fire. He decided to reach out to Severide, claiming he has information regarding of an arsonist. Severide visited him and when seeing him, he took note of Hadley being in pain. Hadley shows Severide the letter of the Fire regarding the one that killed Shay. He offers help in exchange for a new mattress for people with chronic pain. Severide agrees and asked for the letter but Hadley says he will get it once he has the mattress. Once Severide fulfill his end of the bargain Hadley sends him the envelope containing the info leading the CFD and CPD on the trail of Trenton Lamont.
