Khonshu is the overarching protagonist of the 2022 Disney+ Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero series Moon Knight. He is the Egyptian God of the Moon and Night Sky, who becomes the host of Marc Spector, turning him into Moon Knight, the fist of vengeance and traveler of the night.
Prior to Marc, his avatar was once Arthur Harrow, but was betrayed when Arthur converted his allegiance to Ammit, forcing Khonshu to ensure Arthur does not succeed in releasing her. After defeating Ammit and having Marc seal her in Arthur, Khonshu fulfilled his deal by freeing Marc and Steven from servitude. He was then able to track down Arthur in a hospital and have him be killed by his new avatar, Jake Lockley.
He was portrayed on set by Karim El-Hakim while being voiced over by F. Murray Abraham, who also played Omar Suarez in Scarface, Bernardo Gui in The Name of the Rose, Antonio Salieri in the 1984 Amadeus film adaptation, Cyrus Kriticos in Thirteen Ghosts, Ahdar Ru'afo in Star Trek: Insurrection, Grimmel the Grisly in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and The Traveler in Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities.
Personality[]
Khonshu is a complex god, who seeks to rid the world from evil. While vengeful, arrogant and manipulative, he does truly care about humanity and disliking the Ennead Council in return as he believed they abandoned humanity. Which is partially true as Isis, a member of the Ennead Council, is seen on Omnipotence City.
Biography[]
Khonshu was once a member of Ennead Council, where he had a close relationship with the Egyptian goddess of Music and Love, Hathor, but when he begin exposing himself to humanity, such as choosing avatars he called his Moon Knight gifted with ceremonial armor and weapons, because he believes the council abandoned the human race, Khonshu was banished from the council for his actions. Despite his banishment, Khonshu continued to interact with humanity and chose avatars to protect the world from evil.
One of Khonshu's avatars he had over the centuries was Arthur Harrow, who began to resent for his abuse, constantly having do tasks, and never releasing him from his services. When Harrow was interested, the Egyptian goddess of Death, Ammit, who influenced him to betray Khonshu, Harrow eventually broke free from Khonshu, and they had become enemies.
One night, a man named Marc Spector entered Khonshu's temple, after he failed to save a group of archaeologists at a dig site and was shot by his greedy partner Bushman, with intend to shoot himself, before stopped himself from doing so. Khonshu told Marc not to waste his life by killing himself, and offered Marc the chance to be his avatar and protect the world from evil, which Marc reluctantly accepted. Khonshu then healed Marc from his wound, and made his new Moon Knight, having Marc kill despicable people like killers and predators.
He then learned that Arthur intend to release Ammit from her imprisonment telling Marc to take the Scarab of Ammit from him. However, Steven took over unaware what's happening leading to Khonshu being frustrated about this from him giving Arthur the Scarab and even scolded Grant for his recklessness. He then helps Steven Grant turn back the night sky into stopping Harrow's plan before getting sealed away in a statue from the Ennead's spell.
After being freed he decides to fight Ammit on his own before sensing Marc's presents disappearing to see him before their final fight with Harrow begins. Long story short Arthur and Ammit get's defeated by Moon Knight. When Khonshu tells Marc to kill Harrow Marc decides not to kill him. Marc tells Khonshu if he wants to kill someone do it yourself while also telling him that the deal is done before Khonshu decides to reluctantly free Marc. In the aftermath he talks to Arthur inside a car before ordered Jake Lockley to kill Arthur.
