Kid (Doctor Who)

Kid is the main antagonist of the Doctor Who episode "The Interstellar Song Contest".

He is a Hellion from the planet Hellia who infiltrates the Interstellar Song Contest, intending to kill the 100,000 audience and three trillion viewers as revenge for the Corporation devastating his planet.

He was portrayed by Freddie Fox.

Biography[]

Kid was born on the planet Hellia. When the Corporation invaded to extract the planet's hell poppy, his mother was fatally shot before she could reveal the name she had chosen for him. This led people to refer to him simply as "Kid." He grew up alongside Cora Saint Bavier and Wynn Aura-Kin.

By 2925, the Corporation sponsored the 803rd Interstellar Song Contest, and Kid saw this as an opportunity for revenge. He enlisted Wynn to work behind the scenes.

During the contest, Kid stormed backstage and took control of the production booth with Wynn's help. They detained everyone in the booth and switched the livestream to footage from the dress rehearsal, preventing the audience from realizing anything was amiss. When the first song played, Kid disabled the safety protocols of the space station, evacuating the air from the main area and sending most of the audience, including the Doctor and the TARDIS, into space. Cora and her friend Len Kazah were spared when Wynn discreetly sealed their pod, while Belinda managed to hold on after being thrown against the ceiling. They appeared to be the only survivors. With the arena cleared, Kid initiated the final phase of his plan by bringing out a device designed to generate a delta wave. However, backstage director Nina Maxwell tried to convince Wynn that they could still save everyone.

Meanwhile, in space, the Doctor was saved by a vision of his granddaughter Susan, which spurred him to return. Using a confetti cannon, he propelled himself back to the station. Upon accessing a nearby terminal, the Doctor discovered that Kid was about to broadcast a delta wave through the song contest, which would kill three trillion viewers across the galaxy. As Kid noticed interference, he attempted to communicate with the Doctor, while Belinda's group inadvertently listened in on their exchange. Kid expressed his desire for revenge against all those complicit in the Corporation's actions.

The Doctor appeared on the bridge and dismantled the delta wave, using a hologram to distract Kid. Frustrated by Kid's plan to cause mass death, the Doctor physically confronted him, only stopping when Belinda and Cora entered the production booth. After Kid and Wynn were arrested, Kid vowed that he and the Doctor would meet again, to which the Doctor promised he would be ready.

While in holding, Kid and Wynn listened to Cora's performance of the Hellion song for the contest, and Kid found himself moved to tears.

Trivia[]

The horns on his head and his home planet, which sounds like Hell, is a nod to Satan.
