Ethan Woodley, also known as The Kidnapper, is the titular, secondary antagonist of the Euphoria Games franchise Horror Tale.
He is a serial kidnapper who abducts children in the state of Illinois in 1999. During the game, he is under the influence of Wanda, who is a witch.
He is voiced by Sami Chen.
Biography[]
Ethan is the son of Steven Woodley and is also Anna's brother, he used to live a happy life with his sister and father until, in 1996, a fire broke out at the saw mill his father worked at, which took his father's life and left Ethan and Anna severely injured, he has remained unable to find any friends. Sometime between the fire and the events of the Horror Tale games in 1999, a witch named Wanda put him under a spell, that spell made him believe that Wanda is his dad, and he starts kidnapping children on Wanda's orders. He is a young man, estimated to be around 17-18 years old, who is dedicated to kidnapping children and then turning them into wooden dolls under the effects of Wanda's spell on him. Ethan is a child abductor that is currently on the loose which seized terror over the Lakewitch town with the rise of missing children.
Appearance[]
Ethan is a tall young man with a rabbit mask made of wood. He wears a red shirt, a gray jacket with a hood, boots and khaki pants accompanied by rags with a belt where he carries tools such as an axe.
Personality[]
Ethan is a rather narcissistic and proud person, believing himself to be smarter than his victims. It is implied that he has anger issues by his quick temper and instability.
Horror Tale 1: Kidnapper[]
Ethan appears for the first time when the protagonist, Tom Randy, was riding his bicycle to his friend Harry's tree house, Ethan appeared from the bushes and knocked him out. Locking him in a shed, but Tom escapes and informs Harry of the situation to devise a plan, however, Ethan manages to follow Tom, alerting Harry, but he comes up with a plan to make Tom bring him some objects to fortify the tree house and save themselves from the kidnapper.
Later, Tom obtains the objects during a long journey escaping from Ethan and fortifies the tree house to spend the night, however, Ethan manages to enter and kidnap Harry, Tom wakes up and follows him to his lair where he enters a room and finds Ethan, holding Harry, who was already converted into a wooden doll. Tom is horrified as the kidnapper notices his presence and later captures him again.
Horror Tale 2: Samantha[]
Ethan knocks out Tom and locks him in an underground prison beneath his lair, Tom escapes from his cell and meets Samantha, a girl who confesses that Ethan had captured her and transformed her friends Billy and Emma into wooden dolls, and she would be next. Samantha confesses that she was the first one Ethan had kidnapped, but she has stayed alive for a long time because she pretended to be his friend. But now, since she attempted to escape the week before that, Ethan has decided to turn her into a doll.
At that, Tom thinks of a plan but when he was about to leave the lair, Ethan, who was digging a kind of tunnel, surprises him and throws his pickaxe at him, Tom dodges him and escapes and then thinks of a plan with Samantha that consists of get some sleeping pills to put the kidnapper to sleep and a gas cutter to free Samantha from her chains.
After getting the two objects and fleeing from Ethan, who followed him wherever he goes, the kidnapper visits Samantha, who had freed herself from her chains, to give her one last meal before transforming her and scolds her for trying to escape once. and then taking off the mask, Tom distracts Ethan by making him chase him so that Samantha can put the plan into action by putting the sleeping pills in the food, however, a cockroach knocks over the bottle of sleeping pills and when Ethan finds out, he knocks out Samantha and then chases Tom, who tries to flee but is caught again.
Tom wakes up in Samantha's cell with the kidnapper in front of him ready to chain him, however, Samantha knocks him out with a blow to the head, escaping with Tom. After fleeing Samantha tells Tom that Ethan apparently has a deal with a witch and through a ritual transforms the children into wooden dolls and that perhaps if they reverse that ritual they can return the children to normal including Harry and Samantha's friends, Billy and Emma.
Finally, Samantha reveals that Ethan once took her to a forest where the ritual was performed, showing a flashback of Samantha being escorted by the kidnapper to said place where a bonfire with strange symbols illuminated in purple is shown and there was also a wolf mask on the altar.
Horror Tale 3: The Witch[]
After Tom goes to the lair, he notices Ethan kneeling in front of Wanda the Witch and overhears their conversation. He sees Wanda take off Ethan's mask and cast a spell on him, giving him electric powers. Tom later informs Samantha about this on the walkie-talkie.
Later, in the ending, when Tom came with the spellbreaker to fight Wanda, Ethan was sneaking behind Tom, until Tom turned to face Ethan and splashed the spellbreaker on him, breaking the spells that Wanda placed on Ethan.
Ethan, confused and scared about what is happening around him, receives reassurance from Tom that he will be the latter's first friend and that the witch is trying to manipulate him into thinking that she is Ethan's dad.
Wanda, enraged, breaks the spellbreaker and pulls Tom towards her, turning him into a doll, much to Ethan's dismay. Wanda then casts a spell to start a magic fire, and Ethan's sister Anna emerges from behind the flames wearing the wolf mask from the end of the 2nd game.
