Kieran Duffy is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption II.
He was voiced by Pico Alexander.
Biography[]
Kieran Duffy's father was an Irishman who dreamed of moving to California, but died alongside his wife after catching cholera, leaving Kieran orphaned. Kieran got a job at a stable, but was laid off. After serving in the Army for a few years, Kieran became a criminal and joined up with an unnamed gang. He was found by the O'Driscoll Boys, led by Colm O'Driscoll, and forced to join them under threat of death.
While in the Grizzlies West, Kieran was captured by the O'Driscolls' rivals, the Van der Linde gang, led by the charismatic Dutch van der Linde. Despite Kieran pleading that he knew nothing about the O'Driscolls, the gang kept him prisoner, tying him in a barn at their hideout. The gang brought Kieran along as they moved to Horseshoe Overlook, where they tied him to a tree. While in captivity, Karen Jones and Sadie Adler taunted him while Mary-Beth Gaskill and Tilly Jackson secretly let him drink water out of pity.
After Bill Williamson threatened to castrate him with a pair of gelding tongs, Kieran confessed that he knew Colm was hiding in a nearby cabin. He guided Bill, John Marston and Arthur Morgan to the cabin, where they fought O'Driscolls. An O'Driscoll knocked Arthur to the ground and prepared to shoot him, but Kieran shot the O'Driscoll, saving Arthur's life. Arthur is initially angered when he discovers Colm was not in the cabin, but Kieran points out that he would have let the O'Driscoll kill Arthur if he really was betraying them.
As a reward for his tip, Arthur allows Kieran to leave the gang, but Kieran pleads to stay, claiming that the O'Driscolls will kill him for his betrayal of them. Kieran then tells Arthur of a stash of money hidden in the chimney before leaving to the camp with Bill and John, no longer a prisoner but a member.
Kieran served as the camp stablehand and farrier, feeding and grooming the horses. He was still distrusted by the gang for his former affiliation with the O'Driscolls and was often threatened and harassed by them, with even little Jack Marston throwing rocks at him. He grew close with Mary-Beth, the only member of the gang who always treated him with respect and kindness.
The gang relocated to Clemens Point after robber baron Leviticus Cornwall tracked them down. The gang ingratiated themselves with Sheriff Leigh Gray, his father Tavish Gray and their archenemy Catherine Braithwaite. Things went awry after the gang was caught attacking both families and the Braithwaites kidnapped Jack. After fighting the Grays and Braithwaites, the gang relocate to Shady Belle and retrieve Jack from Angelo Bronte. They celebrate Jack's return with a party during which Kieran gets drunk.
Kieran leaves camp afterwards and is found by O'Driscolls. The O'Driscolls kill him, gouge his eyes out, behead him and send him back to Shady Belle on his horse before launching an attack on the gang. The gang defeat the O'Driscolls and bury Kieran away from camp.
Kieran's death is avenged after Colm is captured and hanged, Dutch, Arthur and Sadie sabotaging his attempted rescue.
Victims[]
- Unnamed O’Driscoll member - Shot in the stomach to save Arthur.
Trivia[]
- While it is presumed that the O'Driscolls captured Kieran and tortured him for the gang's location, Micah Bell and John Marston suggest that Kieran willingly returned to the O'Driscolls and ratted on the gang, only to be killed by them.
- It is implied that Kieran and Mary-Beth were infatuated with each other.
- Even when he is accepted into the gang, Sadie still hates Kieran and snarls at and threatens him if he approaches her. While she doesn't actively harass him aside from a single incident mocking him at Horseshoe Overlook, Kieran claims that she and Bill regularly threaten to murder him in his sleep. Whether she changed her opinion about him after his death is unknown as she never mentions him afterwards.
- He is about 173cm (5'8'' feet) and weighs 62kg (136 pounds).
