Jimmy: Kim, doing this... it's not you, okay? You would not be okay with it. Not in the cold light of day.
Kim: ...Wouldn't I?
~ Kim revealing her newfound malicious side.
You think you've lost everything? You have no idea.
~ Kim Wexler threatening Betsy and Craig Kettleman.
You asked if you were bad for me. That's not it. We are bad for each other. [...] Jimmy... I have had the time of my life with you. But we are bad for everyone around us, other people suffer because of us. Apart we're... okay, but together... we're poison. [...] I love you, too. So what? [...] I knew he was alive. [...] It was about a month ago. I saw that car following me again. And it turned out that Mike Ehrmantraut had guys watching both of us, watching... for Lalo. [...] Jimmy... I thought... I thought it was a one-in-a-million chance that he'd come for us, I thought he would be caught if he did, and I told myself I was protecting you. But that's not the truth. The reason I didn't tell you was because I knew what you'd do. [...] You'd... you'd blame yourself. You'd fear for me. You'd want us to run and hide until you were sure I was safe. You would pull the plug on the scam, and then... and then, uh... we'd break up. And I didn't want that... because I was having too much fun.
~ Kim expressing remorse for her actions.

Kimberly "Kim" Wexler is the tritagonist of the crime drama Better Call Saul, the prequel to Breaking Bad.

A former intern at the Hamlin, Hamlin, McGill law firm, she is the girlfriend-turned-former wife of Jimmy McGill - whom she helped inspire the legal persona of: Saul Goodman. However, unlike her husband, Kim eventually started feeling remorse for her actions. This concluded in her fleeing from New Mexico under the belief she doesn't deserve anything she had, moving to Florida to live a quiet, suburban life.

She was played by Rhea Seehorn.

Biography[]

Better Call Saul[]

Kim Wexler originally started out as a clerk at the Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill law firm, where she met Jimmy McGill. Their relationship develops prior to the first season, in which Kim supports Jimmy when he falls out with his brother Chuck McGill over the latter's mistreatment towards him. Eventually, after becoming dissatisfied with her job at HHM, Kim would leave the law firm and establish her own legal business with Jimmy. As Jimmy embraces his new identity as Saul Goodman overtime, Kim, as his newlywed wife, becomes increasingly corrupt, becoming an accessory to Saul's sleazy work with the Cartel, eventually coming face-to-face with Eduardo "Lalo" Salamanca, one of its most dangerous members.

As tensions with her former boss Howard Hamlin escalate for the next while, Kim begins plotting to sabotage Howard's reputation with Saul in an act of vengeance against his animosity. However, their malicious actions go too far when Howard crosses paths with Lalo and ends up getting killed by the latter - partially due to Howard being unaware of Saul and Kim's participation in the criminal underworld. Kim is then forced by Lalo to assassinate drug kingpin Gustavo Fring, otherwise he will execute Jimmy and her. However, she is stopped by Gus' enforcer Mike Ehrmantraut and ends up relaying the situation to him. Mike later arranges for Jimmy to be rescued, whilst Lalo is eventually killed by Gus despite luring him into a trap. Afterwards, Mike stages Howard's death as a suicide; he then orders Saul and Kim to keep their silence over the tragic incident.

Traumatized by Howard's death, Kim comes to realize her wrongdoing and decides to retire from her previous life. After resigning from her legal occupation, Kim confronts Jimmy when he reacts indifferently to what has happened. She then expresses fault for Howard's death and ultimately breaks up with Jimmy to make sure they can never hurt anyone else in the same way ever again. Despite Jimmy's protests, Kim finishes packing her suitcases and leaves, departing from her criminal life.

Post-Breaking Bad[]

Although Kim does not appear in Breaking Bad, she was mentioned in an in-universe American Greed documentary on Jimmy and his corrupt conduct as a cartel lawyer. Her former relationship with Jimmy was exposed to the public.

Some time after her withdrawal, Kim moved to Titusville, Florida, where she found employment at Palm Coast Sprinklers, though it was mostly a boring and unhappy life, as Kim was still riddled with guilt from Howard's death. Months after Jimmy's escape into his new life as Gene Takavic, Francesca Liddy, Jimmy's former secretary, called him in secret to inform her old boss that she had gotten a call from Kim, who was checking in on the situation after the collapse of Walter White's drug empire. Excited by the news, Gene got into contact with Kim, but the conversation derailed into a heated argument when Kim suggested Gene should turn himself in.

Eventually, Kim flew back to Albuquerque. Thereupon she confessed everything that really happened to Howard's widow Cheryl. Shocked and enraged by this revelation, Cheryl blamed Kim and Jimmy for everything they did to Howard before telling Kim that she would file a civil lawsuit against her. However, Kim was saved from legal complications when Jimmy - who was recently arrested in Omaha - took all the blame for her in court, allowing Kim to walk away a free woman.

Personality[]

Despite being raised by a neglectful mother during her childhood and most likely an absentee father, Kim is shown to be a very intelligent woman. She is highly talented in the art of negotiation, and has the legal knowledge to be a successful lawyer. Kim loves Jimmy for his kindness towards her, and returns this compassion to Jimmy on multiple occasions, such as demonstrating sympathy for Jimmy due to his mistreatment by his brother Chuck McGill. Despite periodically showing disgust at Jimmy's unethical behaviour, she does not hesitate to defend his unlawful actions.

During her first few years in the world of law, Kim was a hardworking individual who took pride in her labor. She was dedicated to her job at Hamlin Hamlin McGill and attempted to ignore the oppression she suffered under Howard Hamlin. As time went on, Kim was influenced by Jimmy McGill's charisma and developed an admiration for his con artistry. Eventually, Kim fell from grace along with Jimmy as she entered work in the criminal underworld, slowly transforming into a vindictive and deceitful businesswoman. Kim became highly manipulative to the extent of having the ability to develop highly cunning schemes for her and Saul's benefit.

Nevertheless, Kim's inner conscience struggles for control as she appears conflicted over continuing her corrupt life and returning to the honest hard worker she once was. Her ruthless side appears to win for a time as she plots to take down Howard Hamlin and sabotage his reputation to avenge his lack of respect for her during her time at Hamlin Hamlin McGill, becoming even more obsessed than Saul to destroy Howard's life. At this point, Kim has become a calculating schemer who is merely a shell of her former kindhearted and genuinely hardworking self.

However, Kim is horrified by the consequences of her actions when her civil conspiracy goes too far and Howard's life comes to a shocking end due to her relentless pursuit for revenge. Kim once again is conflicted over her moral compass as she comes to regret her unlawful actions. Drowning in guilt, Kim demonstrates mild redemption as she cuts ties with Jimmy and leaves behind the disaster she helped create in an attempt to prevent such levels of harm from ever being inflicted again.

Quotes[]

I know he's not perfect. And I know he cuts corners. But you're the one who made him this way. He idolizes you, he accepts you, he takes care of you. And all he ever wanted was your love and support. But all you've ever done is judge him. You never believed in him, you never wanted him to succeed. And you know what? I feel sorry for him. And I feel sorry for you.
~ Kim to Chuck on his mistreatment of Jimmy.
Yeah, really! If you don't trust your men with your money, you have bigger problems than if you trust Saul Goodman. And for the record, he doesn't lie. Not to me, not to his clients. He's telling you the truth. But next time you have a bunch of money, and no one you can trust, leave him out of it, okay? Try a wire transfer, try a shell company or... you've heard of the Cayman Islands, right? Jesus, get your shit together and stop torturing the one man who went through hell to save your ass.
~ Kim to Lalo on his mistreatment of Jimmy as his attorney.
FAIR?! Let's talk about fair! "Hey, let's let Jimmy dig around the fire-damaged wreck where his brother died screaming! And then let's let him pick up a keepsake or two." That is so... so fair! And did I hear you right? You want him to serve on the board of a scholarship committee? A scholarship that Chuck never in a million years would've given to Jimmy. Never! It is just, I mean... Oh what's this too, Howard? What's in this? One last "screw you, little brother" from beyond the grave? Am I really supposed to do this to him?
~ Kim to Howard on his revelation of Chuck's death to Jimmy.
