King Industries is an international oil company serving as the main antagonists of the 1999 James Bond movie The World Is Not Enough.
It is headed by Elektra King, who inherited the company from her father after arranging for his assassination. Under her leadership and with the aid of Renard and his anarchist goons, the company sought to gain a monopoly on oil by blowing up a Russian pipeline.
History[]
King Industries was originally a construction company run by Robert King, until he married a woman from Azerbaijin and gained access to her family's land and the oil reserves on it. After his father-in-law perished, Robert King inherited the oil reserves and merged them with his construction company to form King Industries, which soon grew into a massive oil conglomerate.
Robert King's daughter, Elektra, was later kidnapped by Renard the Anarchist and held for ransom. On the advice of M, King refused to pay the ransom, which left Elektra feeling betrayed. Desiring revenge on her father for abandoning her, Elektra was able to seduce Renard into falling in love with her and get his help for her scheme. Elektra faked her escape from Renard and cut off part of her right ear to make it seem convincing. She then had Renard arrange her father's assassination, allowing her to inherit his oil company.
Elektra then began moving to gain a bigger foothold on the oil market. She plotted to use stolen plutonium to blow up a nuclear submarine and destroy a Russian pipeline, giving her a monopoly on oil in the region. To throw suspicion off of herself, Elektra used half the plutonium in a staged terrorist attack on one of her own pipelines. James Bond caught on to Elektra's scheme, but both he and M were captured by her. Elektra set up James to be executed, but he was saved by the intervention of Valentin Zukovsky. After rescuing M, James Bond went to confront Elektra and shot her after she refused to call off the nuclear submarine. He later killed Renard and stopped the nuclear submarine from exploding, thwarting Elektra's plan.
