King Meowmeow is a minor villain in the IDW comic adaptation of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, serving as the main antagonist of isses 96 and 97. He is the king of Abyssinia, and the son of it's former king and queen, who outlawed magic and outsiders after the Storm King invaded and destroyed the kingdom in the past. When finding out about an old magical temple below the city, he's unable to get it open, so he uses Capper and his old friends to do so for him. Inside he finds a Tree of Harmony which he tries to destroy, but is stopped by Discord.
Appearance[]
King Meowmeow is a bipedal male cat with black fur and lime green eyes. His face, inner ears, the front of his torso, and his paws are all white. He has a small pink nose, and a large tuft of white fur on his chest. He wears a simplistic golden crown similar in shape to Princess Celestia's crown, and a purple cape with gold trimmings and swirling patterns on the back. He also adorns a gold necklace with a line green gemstone matching his eyes in the center. He's often seen carrying a long golden staff with a jagged purple gem on top.
Biography[]
King Meowmeow inherits leadership from his parents, outlawing magic and outsiders after the Storm King had destroyed the kingdom and stolen all of its riches. When Capper Dapperpaws returns to Abyssinia alongside Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Trixie Lulamoon and Discord from Equestria, the group is quickly apprehended by the city's guards, with Discord's magic being sealed away with a special collar. They are taken to King Meowmeow, who explains to them why he banned magic, before inquiring as to why Capper brought a bunch of outsiders into the kingdom, accusing them of wanting to usurp the throne.
Capper tells him that he befriended the Mane Six, who taught him the value of friendship, and how he helped them defeat the Storm King. He then tells Meowmeow that as long as his subjects are living under constant surveillance, they will never be happy or free, and urges that he allow magic to return and embrace friendship for the good of the kingdom. Instead though, the king throws all of them into prison. Capper's old friends are able to find and save the group though, bringing them to their hideout in the Abyssinian underground.
Capper's former closest friend, Chummer, tells the group that there may be a way to restore magic and defeat the corrupt king's guard, telling them about a mysterious door they can't figure out how to open, which guards have been stationed at recently. When they get to the door though, there are several more guards there, but the group is able to make a plan to distract them and lure them away from the door. Capper is able to pick the lock, when King Meowmeow appears with several more guards. He explains how he had found out about the door years ago, but could never find out how to open it, so when Capper came back, he made sure his old friends would hear about his return. He had his guard allow them to escape so they would unlock the door for him, before ambushing them. He then orders his guards to bring the group into the now unlocked room with him, wanting them to see the kingdom's magic be destroyed forever.
Inside, he finds a dormant Tree of Harmony, commenting that he'll need to get rid of it. Fluttershy protests that he can't get rid of a source of magic and friendship, but he tells her to watch him, leaving clawmarks on the Tree first to show that it's his. Fluttershy tackles him, to which he orders his guards to attack. The group begins fighting back, during which Discord's collar is hit and broken, restoring his magic power, which he uses to turn all the guards into kittens. Meowmeow pulls out an axe, telling everyone to watch as he chops the Tree down, but right before he strikes it, Discord turns his axe into a feather. He asks what the meaning of this is, and Fluttershy replies that it's chaos, it doesn't have to have a meaning.
Capper and his old friends then activate the Tree of harmony, becoming its Element bearers and restoring magic to the kingdom, transforming some of its members to look like their ancestors of ancient Anugypt. Afterwards, the guards depose King Meowmeow of his position and take him prisoner. He is not seen again after this, though presumably his parents resumed their roles as the rulers of Abyssinia.
