The birth of a new origami kingdom! | „ |
~ King Olly |
King Olly, also known as the Origami King, is the titular main antagonist of Paper Mario: The Origami King. He is the ruler of the Origami Kingdom, the leader of the Folded Soldiers, and superior of the Legion of Stationery.
Appearance
Olly is a small pixie-like humanoid with grey wings, black eyes, and blonde hair that covers his left eye. He wears a purple cloak with an orange collar.
Biography
Olly was created by the Origami Craftsman to fit an origami castle during the Toads' origami festival. A message was written on Olly by the Origami Craftsman encouraging him to grow up into a great king. However, Olly misinterpreted the message as a careless scribble and developed a hatred for the Toads and all those made of flat paper instead of origami. Crafting Olivia to serve alongside him, Olly raids Princess Peach's castle, planning to turn it into a replica of his castle.
Capturing Peach's castle, Olly folds Peach into origami and folds Bowser into a weak little floppy thing. After Peach drops Mario into the castle dungeon for refusing to fold himself, he meets Olivia, who was thrown into the dungeon for not sharing her brother's beliefs on domination. After escaping the dungeon and defeating a group of Origami Goombas, a yellow Shy Guy next to the Origami Peach reveals himself as Olly, having conquered the Mushroom Kingdom so he can create a new kingdom of origami, and curses the castle and the nearby settlements with five long streamers. Mario, Olivia, and Bowser decide to team up to destroy the streamers and stop Olly. During their quest, Olly sends his Folded Soldiers and Legion of Stationery after them.
Once all streamers are lifted, Mario and friends enter the castle to confront Olly. There, he reveals that he sticks Peach's origami body on the wall and created a plentiful of origami cranes, being only one short to perform the Thousand Cranes technique and have a wish granted to erase the existence of all Toads on the planet. Calling out Mario and the others for refusing to join him, he prepares to kill them. After a long and tedious battle, Mario uses the powers he obtains from the Vellumentals to defeat Olly in battle. Badly crippled, Olivia reads out the Origami Craftman's message to Olly. Realizing it was never a vandalizing scrawl, Olly apologizes to Olivia for going so far in his quest for vengeance, saying that his heart was only fueled by rage. As he dies, he asks Olivia to turn his body into the last crane to set everything right. Upon her brother's death, Olivia turns Olly's paper body into a crane and performs the Thousand Crane technique and wishes to revert everything her brother caused. With that, all origami is lifted from the Mushroom Kingdom, turning everyone cursed by Olly back to normal.

Trivia
- King Olly is the third Paper Mario villain that serves as the final boss instead of Bowser, the first two being Shadow Queen and Dimentio.
- However, King Olly has three phrases of battle, unlike the Shadow Queen and Dimentio where both latters have at least two phases.
- According to the Origami Craftsman, the 1000 origami cranes wish is forbidden, which King Olly wanted to accomplish by turning the entire Mushroom Kingdom into origami
- However, in Japanese legend, the 1000 origami cranes grants eternal good luck instead of a wish.
