Nanaue, better known as King Shark, is a major character in the 2024 action anime TV series Suicide Squad Isekai.
He was voiced by Subaru Kimura in Japanese and Andrew Love in English.
Appearance[]
King Shark is a towering, heavy-built mutant shark, characterized by his torpedo-like shape that tapers at both ends. His back and sides showcase an intriguing pattern of dark blue, complemented by a stark white underside. He has a short, sharply pointed conical snout, and his large, triangular serrated teeth are arranged in multiple rows—up to seven—specifically designed to cut through flesh and puncture bone. King Shark typically dons the orange prisoner uniform from Belle Reve, but he is also seen in a stylish stonewashed denim bib outfit, giving him a unique look that stands out.
Personality[]
King Shark is one of the stronger members of the Squad, but he has the IQ of a kindergartner, which adds to his endearing nature. Despite his intimidating appearance, he possesses a kind and innocent soul, making it easy to connect with him once you get to know him. He has a massive appetite and enjoys eating, particularly pig-like creatures, which often leads to a bloated stomach right after a meal. A heavy sleeper, he can only be roused when his stomach starts growling for more food. He shares a special bond with Harley Quinn's most trusted ally, often stepping in to protect her when he sees her getting slapped or mistreated, showcasing his loyalty and good-heartedness.
Biography[]
King Shark and the rest of the Suicide Squad find themselves implanted with bombs in their necks, set to explode within 72 hours if they don't reach the signal in time. Just when they think things couldn't get more complicated, they are transported to a strange Isekai world, where they soon find themselves caught in a battle against pig-like creatures. The chaos escalates as a military helicopter crashes down nearby, adding to the confusion.
During the fray, the Squad is ambushed by the pig creatures, and Harley Quinn ends up with blood sprayed across her face, which prompts King Shark to make a grand entrance. Fueled by a primal instinct, he decisively takes down the attacking pigs, devouring them in the process—even feasting on the leader's carcass once he's defeated.
Meanwhile, General Cecil, who believes in the Squad's potential to eliminate the threats, is met with skepticism. Clayface tries to reason with the unclear motivations of these pig creatures, but the differences in their worlds create a communication barrier. Ultimately, they are captured and sent to a castle prison, where tensions rise, and blame is thrown around. During the argument, King Shark burps loudly after his feast
After being stuck in prison for twelve long hours, the pressure on the Squad mounts as they need to reach the signal tower before their neck bombs explode. King Shark, however, is deep in slumber, completely unresponsive to attempts to wake him. In a twist of fate, guards end up carrying him to Blower Prison along with the rest of the Squad due to the earlier chaos.
Once they arrive, the Squad discovers Rick Flag in the same cell. He quickly explains how he ended up there, detailing the surprising turn of events. Just as he finishes, King Shark's stomach lets out an enormous growl, waking him from his nap. Instinctively, he catches a whiff of his teammates, and the smell triggers his hunger, making him see them as potential food.
Panic ensues among the Squad as King Shark shifts into a more predatory state. Rick quickly intervenes, realizing they need to get out of the cell before things escalate further. With determination, King Shark uses his considerable strength, ramming his head against the cell door, attempting to break them free from their confines. The tension in the cell is palpable as they realize time is running out, and they must work together to escape before it's too late.
Cecil watched in disbelief as the inmates spilled out of their cells, realizing that it was the Suicide Squad behind the chaos. Quickly, he summoned his soldiers to contain the situation. In a moment of desperation, he hurled a sword towards Harley, but King Shark unexpectedly intercepted the weapon, chomping it down without a second thought. Unfortunately for Cecil, this left him vulnerable, and he ended up doubling over in pain, but he knew he would heal soon enough.
Rick Flag, trying to restore some order, called for everyone to stand down. He wanted to talk rather than fight, and they were soon taken to the imposing Castle Aldora. There, Aldora used a spell to establish contact with the squad. Flag explained that the previous incarnation of the squad had become generals among the enemy's forces, which piqued Aldora's interest.
After some negotiation, Aldora accepted their offer and prepared to send them off to confront a battalion of werewolves to locate Ratcatcher, who could help them control the beasts. In the ensuing battle, King Shark took on the werewolves fiercely, even indulging in eating a few of them. Once the battle was won, Katana swooped in to rescue King Shark, and they made their escape from the fray, ready to tackle whatever challenges lay ahead.
after the chaos at the castle, they returned to their cell, weary but relieved. King Shark had found a quiet corner and drifted off to sleep, exhausted from the earlier battles. Fiona visited them, curious about their journey and the impact of the kingdom's long-standing war. Harley, watching from a distance, felt a connection with Fiona, remembering how this all began. As they recounted their experiences from the battlefield, Nanaue, King Shark's other name, began to bond with Harley. He shared food with her, offering a piece of his catch, and in the warmth of camaraderie, he even took a short nap beside her.
The Squad finally reached the portal just in time, narrowly avoiding the impending bomb blast. As their connection to Kingdom Flag provided more supplies, it became clear that they had to retrieve the helicopter left at the mountain. They maneuvered through the dense forest, needing to pass a herd of plant-eating creatures. To divert attention, they cleverly used King Shark as bait. Unfortunately, the creature spat him out, much to the amusement of Harley and Deadshot, who couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculous sight.
Upon reaching the mountain, they spotted the helicopter. But their relief was short-lived when a dragon, guarding its nest, took notice of their presence. Panic ensued as everyone sprinted for their lives. In a terrifying moment, the dragon snatched King Shark in its jaws, but Harley's quick thinking saved him just in time. Though he emerged scorched from the encounter, he was still alive.
Deadshot, displaying his sharpshooting skills, took down the dragon, but their troubles were far from over. With no clear way to escape, Deadshot nearly fell from the cliff's edge. Just in time, King Shark lunged and grabbed his arm, pulling him back from the brink. The Squad, though battered and bruised, was united against the odds, ready to confront whatever challenge lay ahead.
As the Squad made their way back to base, a dense green smoke cloud billowed in the air, thickening the atmosphere with an ominous vibe. Rick Flag immediately sensed trouble. “Everyone, stay sharp!” he warned, his instincts kicking in. Rick’s heart raced when he saw the first Squad—The Enchantress and The Thinker—engaged in a fierce battle. Enchantress, with her mystical powers unleashed, was causing havoc, weaving dark spells that twisted the very air. The Thinker, armed with his advanced technology, launched energy blasts that illuminated the smoke-filled backdrop.
King Shark is in the middle of a chaotic transformation at the Thinker’s lair when he gets blasted by elf magic, causing his changes to escalate. Enchantress intervenes, using her shield to protect herself from Nanaue's ferocious attacks, but the impact causes his jaw to crack the shield. In a surprising move, she sends him flying into a nearby lake. Once in the water, he's quickly met with a powerful punch from Killer Croc, who immediately adds to King Shark’s troubles by throwing him into a confrontation with a monstrous sea creature. The creature attempts to incapacitate him while hurling rocks, but as King Shark tries to scout his surroundings, he finds himself ambushed by Croc.
The two engage in a fierce brawl, trading blows, but King Shark proves resilient despite taking some hits. In a pivotal moment, Croc manages to grab him and slams him against the wall, but King Shark has his eye on a potential escape route. Just when he thinks he might break free, Croc catches his hand, preventing his getaway. The fight concludes with King Shark realizing he’s outmatched and ultimately defeated.
The aftermath leaves the Suicide Squad disappointed, with the sense of unexpected failure hanging heavily in the air. Even Nanaue feels the sting of loss, displaying his frustration. As Princess and Cecil move to rescue the group from impending execution, Deadshot asks King Shark to open his mouth. While trying to pull a tooth from his jaw, irritation grows as it proves to be quite difficult. Clayface attempts to help but ends up angering King Shark further, resulting in a comedic chase as King Shark seeks retribution for the pain caused by the tooth removal.
With time running out, the Suicide Squad races to reach the portal before the bombs detonate. However, they are met with a formidable obstacle: an army of elves guarding the portal, led by the ever-calculating Thinker. Knowing they have to eliminate this threat to get through, the Squad quickly convenes to strategize their attack.
As night falls, the Squad springs into action. King Shark and Clayface form the rear guard, while Basil, visibly frustrated with the plan, warns Nanaue to keep him dry—after all, clay doesn’t mix well with water. The tension mounts as they reach their base, and Rick Flag realizes he’s forgotten to give the signal for their assault. Thankfully, King Shark saves the day with an enormous belch that echoes through the night, serving as the cue everyone needed.
King Shark then lunges into battle, taking out several elves with surprising ease, his strength and ferocity shining through. He hands off some elf shells to Peacemaker before continuing his fight alongside Harley Quinn, who charges ahead with her signature chaos. Their combined efforts create a distraction, allowing Harley to confront Thinker directly. With a swift combination of wit and combat skill, she manages to defeat him, causing the remaining elves to halt in their tracks in confusion.
Seizing the opportunity, King Shark moves decisively, taking advantage of the chaos to consume the remaining elves. Meanwhile, the bombs are successfully reset, ensuring the Squad's victory once again. With their mission accomplished, the members of the Suicide Squad share a moment of triumph, basking in the glow of their hard-fought success.
The Squad returns to the castle, still reeling from their recent battle. However, instead of gratitude, they are met with hostility from Queen Aldora. Not only does she refuse to thank them for their victory, but she also outright disobeys her orders in front of them.
During the ensuing chaos, Noble attempts to give an interview but ends up in a tense exchange, particularly with King Shark, who growls menacingly at him. Rick, trying to maintain order, tells King Shark to stand down, but the situation escalates when Harley decides to stand up to both the queen and Noble. In a fit of rage, Noble slaps Harley in front of the team, an act that pushes King Shark over the edge. In a shocking move, he swallows Noble whole.
This unexpected turn of events leads to dire consequences. Nanune is arrested for the murder of Noble, and she faces serious charges. Meanwhile, the remaining members of the Squad find themselves exiled from the kingdom, leaving their fate uncertain as they grapple with the aftermath of their actions.
