“ | I am pleased that you have chosen to side with us. Your knowledge of how those stupid barbarians fight will give you an advantage, though it is very likely that Duke Boragus has put a price on your head for being a traitor. This will be a fight to the finish. We wish to extend our boarders into the Krewlod hills, and they wish to stop us. A token Erathian force will likely get caught in the middle, but there is simply nothing we can, or wish to, do about it. Do well, and you shall be idolized by all of Tatalia. Fail... well, we don't need to discuss that just yet. | „ |
~ A letter Tralossk sends to the player. |
King Tralossk is a supporting antagonist in the fantasy RTS game Heroes of Might and Magic III. He serves as a protagonist villain in the "Spoils of War" campaign, and as one of the main antagonists of the "Neutral Affairs" level in the "Liberation" campaign.
Overview[]
Tralossk is the King of Tatalia, a playable faction and a Kingdom of Gnolls and Lizard people, of which Tralossk is the latter. He has eleven daughters, the youngest of which, Styg is a playable hero. His eldest daughter is married to a Beastmater named Wystan, whom Tralossk is training to succeed him. Wystan however plans to kill Tralossk once he's learned all he could from him and assume the throne. It is unknown if Tralossk knows of Wystan's intentions or not, or if he approves of them.
Personality[]
As he is never directly encountered, little is known about Tralossk himself. He dislikes the Beastmaster Alkin and hopes that one day he will get himself killed. Alkin however has lead a successful career, much to Tralossk's annoyance. Tralossk also appears to be somewhat distrustful of humans, despite some of his Beastmasters and Witches being them. When the Witch Andra offered her service to the King, Tralossk put her through a series of trials to test her knowledge. Andra never missed a single question, and Tralossk appointed her as one of his military commanders. These relationships with the aforementioned Beastmaster and Witch, shows that Tralossk is very selective about who he appoints as his military officers, but will appoint anyone he thinks could be useful, even if he doesn't like them or judges them by their species. This shows that Tralossk judges by merit before he judges by race, indicating that Tralossk is a good judge of character and he does keep his word if he gives it.
Ultimately what makes Tralossk a villain is his greed for wealth and power, and apathy for the people of nations Tatalia wars with, as demonstrated in his letters with the player.
Biography[]
When King Nicolas Gryphonheart of Erathia died, the Dungeon Overlords of Nighon, and the Kreegans of Eeofol invaded Erathia hoping to destroy their hated enemy. Seeing an opportunity to expand the boarders of Tatalia and claim the relatively unguarded southwestern territories of Erathia which Nighon and Eeofol had not invaded, Tralossk hires a mercenary general (the player character) to help his armies invade the Erathian land closest to the Tatalian boarder and take control of all the mines in the area. The fighting was a success and soon Tralossk had the finances he needed to expand further east into the entire southwestern portion of Erathia.
Once he had firmly established his foothold in the Erathian land closest to Talalia, he planned to invade and conquor the entirity of southwestern Erathia and expand Tatalia's boarders to the Krewlod hills, which bordered the Barbarian Kingdom of Krewlod, which also decided to expand their borders and conquer some Erathian land. In response to this attack, Krewlod readied their troops to halt Tatalia's march and claim the southeastern portion of Erathia themselves. Few Erathina castles and settlements remained in the area and prepared to defend themselves, but they they were little more than token resistance. Ironically, the land in which the three armies were fighting over had little value.
Both Tralossk and Krewlod's Duke Boragus attempted to hire the mercenary again (the player character fought for Krewlod in a different part of the campaign), and the player chose whom they wish to fight for in this boarder war. If the player chooses to side with Tralossk, he will welcome the them back into his service and promises them that they will be idolized by all of Tatalia if they succeed. If the player chooses to side with Krewlod, Tralossk is furious, declares them a traitor, puts a price on their head, and orders their head to be delivered in a basket.
Regardless of whom the player fights for, both Tralossk and Boragus are ultimately defeated in a later campaign, when the fully mobilized Erathian armies, led by Queen Catherine, with the aid of the Wizards of Bracada (led by Gavin Magnus) arrive in the area. After much fighting, Erathia reclaims all the stolen land, and Tralossk withdraws his troops. He is not heard of again for the rest of the story, but it is likely that he later died, possibly in the Reckoning.
