When I was a kid, I had a dog. A ragged little mutt. Don't know the breed. Found him in an alley out back of a peep-o-rama on 8th Ave. Somebody'd burned out one of his eyes with a cigarette. I named him Bronco Nagurski. I snuck him into my room, hid him from my dad. Stole food for him from the Puerto Ricans down the hall. I had him for three weeks before he pissed on the rug. My dad found him, kicked the shit out of him while I watched, then threw him out the same window my mom had jumped from the year before. Once the dog was dead, the old man came after me. Looking back now, I'm glad that happened when it did. I was 8 years old, but that was the last time I ever let myself cry...the last time I knew fear.
~ Kingpin on his abusive childhood.
I always told myself, everything I did, I did for my son. So he'd never have to suffer like I've suffered. He'd never have to be raped by five guys in prison or have to take shit off a man like Don Rigoletto. He'd never have to kill like I've killed. I always said, this was all for Richard. But now...now I have to admit to myself...this was never about Richard. It was for me. It was always for me.
~ Kingpin two weeks after his son Richard's death.

Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin, is the main antagonist of Steve Dillon's PunisherMAX. Unlike most of other Frank Castle's enemies, Fisk is completely sane, and way more calculative and pragmatic in his plans. He now rules New York City's criminal underworld.

Biography[]

Wilson Fisk's mother committed suicide via defenestration when he was a child. He also had an abusive alcoholic father who often made him cry in fear by looking at rats, and at one point murdered his pet dog in front of him before putting his arm in a cast when he was only 8 years old. Sometime afterwards, the young Fisk got his revenge by drugging his father's beer and then torturing him to death with rats, after which he escaped his home on a fishing boat to explore the world. As an adult, Fisk was sent to prison for an unknown reason and gangraped by the inmate Big Lucky and four other men in the showers. Upon release, Fisk went to Big Lucky's wife's house and took photos of her being gangraped to death by a dozen bums and crackheads, mailing said photos to Big Lucky in prison, who then broke out and raced home only to be tortured to death by Fisk until dawn the next day.

Fisk eventually became Don Rigoletto's bodyguard in Hell's Kitchen, killing three (not one as was requested) of his own men to make peace after stealing his money. During that time, Fisk broke the arms of a gambling man who got in over his head with Rigoletto; the gambler's girlfriend Vanessa moved in with Fisk two weeks later, after which they got married and had a son named Richard. Eight years later, Fisk hatches a plot to kill off all crime families in New York with the intent of usurping them in order to become the city's new Kingpin. In this goal, he threatens to have a fake ID creator named Dave's mother and 4-year-old brother gangraped before finally killing him—only to shoot Dave in the head after he does what he's asked anyway.

After having several dons and lieutenants assassinated by his henchmen, Fisk encounters Don Rigoletto in his home with a knife to Richard's throat, threatening to kill him if Fisk doesn't drop his gun. Regretfully, Fisk doesn't drop the gun and uses it to shoot Rigoletto's two armed goons, and Rigoletto uses the time he has left to fatally slit Richard's throat as a final "screw you" to Fisk before dying himself. After Richard's death, Fisk coldly tells Vanessa they can just have another child. Two weeks later, Fisk is now officially the Kingpin, his first order of business being to kill the Punisher for constantly interfering in his affairs, hiring the assassins Bullseye and Elektra for help in this endeavor. When Vanessa tries to kill him during sex as payback for Richard's death, Kingpin has her forcefully evicted from his home. At one point, Kingpin beats a former henchmen who stole from him to death in front of his own son, and then coldly tells the son that he's not sorry for any of it.

By the end of the story, Kingpin is enraged by the Punisher digging up Richard's grave, and is able to mortally wound the Punisher in their final fight a week later, but is badly wounded himself during said fight when he gets the tip of his tongue bitten out, followed by a hammer in his right temple. Deciding to run home for dear life, Kingpin makes it back only to see that Vanessa ordered him locked outside, allowing the Punisher to kill him with two bullets in the back of the head while stating "your city, my world."
