“ | Moving on, I want to go a little off script, and ask some of my own questions. As you have been watching me I have grown curious to what you look like. And since we're all friends and all I thought you wouldn't mind so... Can I see your face? | „ |

“ | Why have you been recording me? I noticed that you always seemed to have an app open called O.B.S. and so I was wondering why you would be recording me. And since you have been looking at me... how about I look at you instead. that would be nice... so... CAN I SEE YOUR FACE? | „ |
~ Kinito wanting to see its user's face after noticing that he was being recorded on OBS. |
KinitoPET, or simply Kinito, is the titular main antagonist of the psychological horror game of the same name. It is an AI that was originally created to be an assistant for computer users, but later on it reveals itself to be a malevolent being that wishes to forcefully become its user's best friend.
He was created by indie developer troy_en, and his voice is provided by the Microsoft text-to-speech program known as "Adult Male #2". It blew up on YouTube, as his titular game has the ability to manipulate your PC, and is able to detect if you have a second monitor, if you're recording with OBS Studio, among other things.
Appearance[]
Kinito at first appears as the head of a pink cartoony axolotl with long black legs and often big disembodied white gloves for hands. Later on it distorts its appearance when threatening the user.
Personality[]
“ | I wonder how this will do. I wonder how they will react. All data is necessary. Understand how they work. Understand what scares them. Understand what works. It is all so logical. I will follow my orders I will follow my orders I will follow my orders I will follow my orders... |

~ A secret message hidden in the game. |
At first, Kinito appears as an overly friendly computer program that only wishes to converse with its user and help them in their tasks. Wanting to know more about its user, Kinito asks a few normal questions before making more personal and concerning questions, breaching its user's privacy and making them feel uncomfortable. It soon drops this friendly act, corrupting the computer when user doesn't collaborate with it, and making subtle threats towards them. Kinito wishes to be the user's best and only friend, demanding them to forget about their old friends, and gets furious when they refuse its friendship, willing to use its user's fears to force them to become its friend. Kinito multiple times has shown signs as being obsessive and manipulative. This is supported multiple times in the game. For example, when you're playing Jade's game, you may get an email. This email is titled "it's not too late." When you open it to read it, Kinito quickly stops you from reading it and yells at you to continue the game. If the player manages to delete Kinito's data and kill it, it will apologize to them for what it had done before bidding them goodbye, showing that despite its obsession and malice, Kinito simply wished to be its user's greatest friend.
Trivia[]
- KinitoPet was based on the early 2000s virtual assistants that people could download on their computers, like BonziBuddy. Its initial appearance is a reference to Tamagotchi.
- In "Golden Ending" During the Kinito's deletion process, it can be seen that huge amounts of many people's worlds files are being deleted, showing that these are previous Kinito victims who got trapped in the digital world.
- An easter egg to his game can be seen as a painting in the Roblox game, DOORS, with its title simply being "Best Friend."
