~ Kintoru revealing the fate of Yasu Masashige's friends. |
Kintoru, commonly known by her nickname Sama, is the main antagonist of the first chapter of the 2021 Roblox horror game The Mimic "Control's Book".
She is the Beast of Control and a creation of a bored eldritch God who wanted to have puppets/tools. She, alongside Enzukai, Netamo and Yuma, became one of the Four Beasts that rampaged across Earth before being sealed away by Kusonoki Masashige. She is the archenemy of Kusonoki and Yasu Masashige.
Biography[]
Origins[]
A bored eldritch God created Kintoru, Enzukai, Netamo and Yuma due to wanting to have puppets/tools. They became the Four Beasts, with Sama being the Beast of Control. For ten nights, they fought against their gilded cage to be free, and for ten nights the samurai, Kusonoki Masashige, fought against them, his back unturned. Soon, he came to rise above them and sealed these beasts all around our Earth. Control was sent to the east, where she was trapped in a cage, unable to feast. Jealousy was sent to the bottom of the sea, a part of a forgotten legacy. Rage was kept in His strongest cage, seething with wrath and counting his days. Rebirth was forced to the bottom of the Earth, forced to watch the world in reverse.

Kintoru fights Kusonoki
Soon enough, Kintoru would hold Kusunoki's daughter hostage. Shocked by this, Kusunoki makes a deal with Sama to get his daughter back, but the both of them fall for her trap either way, and Kusunoki was turned into an eternal guardian of her seal.
At one point, Kintoru was found by Kaito on a seashore. Suddenly, Kintoru then asks him if he could give her a ride, promising something in return. Kaito kindly accepts and takes her on board. On the journey, Kintoru began telling stories/rumors to him. Kaito was shocked at what he heard. Upon them getting back to land, Kintoru thanks him, and afterwards gives him a reward. A biwa for his daughter, which was actually cursed. Eventually, both Biwaki and Kaito were trapped in Kintoru domain. Hugging each other one last time, the two turned into Butterfly Spirits. Kintoru then turned the two into puppets later on.
Soon enough, at some other point, Kintoru was at the parent-teacher conference that Yasu Masashige went to when he was still in high school. The reason as to why she was even there in the first place was that she was going after her next targets; Keiko and Daku Masashige, Yasu's parents. Kintoru eventually met the two at the conference, but little did they know that they were slowly becoming cursed.
Control: Chapter I[]
Kintoru does not make a full-fledged appearance in Chapter 1 of The Mimic but does speak to Yasu Masashige at the end of the chapter, by aggressively informing him that he is at the Imperial Palace.
Control: Chapter II[]
Kintoru does not yet make an appearance at the first part of Chapter 2, and instead speaks to Yasu telepathically through his mind. As sadistically revealed by Kintoru after avoiding Megumi in the Imperial Palace, his friends were devoured and that they ran just like he did. In the last maze, or Akuyami Village, Kintoru finally makes a full-fledged appearance, greeting Yasu sinisterly before chasing him in the maze. After escaping her maze, Kusunoki will boom out "You'll never escape the curse of the Witch" before the chapter ends.
Control: Chapter III[]
Kintoru this time takes the form as a giant centipede-like creature known as Omukade. Throughout Chapter 3, she will attempt to manipulate Yasu, trying to convince him that the Butterfly Spirits that he was sacrificing were his friends right after escaping Kaito's maze. Eventually defeating Mihari, a fight with Omukade will begin. To escape her, Yasu must find some pillars and activate a code sequence of the skulls to turn the two orbs green and escape the level.
Finally arriving back home (or so he thought), Yasu begins to feel uneasy. At the end, it was revealed that the monsters that Yasu sees throughout the game were being controlled by Kintoru herself, as puppet strings were attached to her sleeves as the monsters were seen hanging in the air by these strings.
Control: Chapter IV[]
After freeing Kusonoki from his curse, he reveals why exactly he turned to villainy in the first place, that being the deal he struck with Kintoru in return for his daughter. Offering Yasu the blessed blade, he tells Yasu not to trust her at all.
Kintoru, now as a giant arachnid-like creature known as Saigomo, begins to hunt down Yasu to prevent him from destroying all seven of her hearts. Once three hearts are destroyed, Kintoru will turn from normal giggling to hysterical laughter as her appearance alters. After locating and destroying all seven hearts, Yasu has a choice to either free his family or kill Kintoru.
If Yasu chooses to save his family, it will result in the bad ending of the game, where he is held by strings and Kintoru explains how easy it is to deceive humans.
If Yasu chooses to kill Kintoru, it will result in the good ending, where she is finally slain. The Evil God's multiple arm form will loom over her, calling her a useless tool before dragging her corpse to the depths of the unknown. After this, Yasu and his parents will live happily together, with only them having no memory of the incident. Yasu's other ancestors will be thankful towards him, as they can finally live happily in the afterlife together.
The Witch Trials[]
In the prequel game mode The Witch Trials, Kintoru alongside Enzukai, Netamo and Yuma will appear in a cutscene, and a poem about how Kusonoki defeated all four of them will be recited. Upon touching the hidden black skull in the first map, a brief cutscene will play of Kintoru beside the Sakura Tree she was sealed in, thus making it true that she was sealed in a Sakura Tree.
When the player gets to the Fleshbags' maze after locating a Butterfly Spirit and opening the giant gate with it, Juno Masashige will mention that Kintoru had devoured the lost souls and created the Fleshbags from the fleshes of her own.
In Futaomote's maze, Futaomote Masashige will reveal how exactly she got cursed by Kintoru, stating that afterwards, she became something far worse than she already was. After beating Futaomote's maze, Futao will be hanging from puppet strings, whilst confirming that Kintoru was indeed in control of everything the whole time.
Appearance[]
As the Witch, Kintoru is an unnaturally tall albeit beautifully stunning humanoid with slight monstrous features. She has long, luxurious wavy black hair, a large black sun hat, a white porcelain mask with pink blushes, black eye sockets and red lipstick. She wore a black dress and has long black feathers hanging from her shoulders. She also sports black boots and long black arms with darker nails. In her remodel, she appears to have small white pupils in her eye sockets and a large grin.
As Omukade, she is significantly larger, towering over Kusonoki's monster form. This time, she appears as a black bloated centipede-like creature with multiple arms sprouting from her back with a long-segmented tail that is capable of causing harm. The white porcelain mask still remains along with her hair, although the hair is now medium length. At the end of Chapter 3, her body is now swelled larger and multiple puppet strings are attached to her puppets.
As Saigomo, she appears as a giant arachnid-like creature with an abdomen, being the size of four school buses. She sports eight spider-like legs shaped like actual limbs. Her hair remains the same length as when she became Omukade, and her porcelain white mask is now replaced with a more sinister one with a large grin with black lipstick. When Yasu destroys three of her hearts, she enters her frenzy mode, with her grin now replaced with a vicious, sharp-toothed grin with glowing white eyes. Whilst near Yasu in this state, she begins to laugh hysterically.
When Hiachi first encountered Kintoru, she simply appeared as a tall dark figure that meant no harm. When she got closer however, Sama shapeshifted into a similar form to Hiachi, even with her own hat, albeit all in black.
Personality[]
Kintoru is a vicious and hungry beast with ill-intent, with few examples being when she cursed many innocent souls (such as the Akuyami Village residents) without remorse, and toying with her victims such as Yasu Masashige. Her most defining trait however is her manipulation, as she was able to trick an innocent girl (Hiachi) into releasing her and cursing her later on. She is also considerably two-faced, as she shows a motherly side to Hiachi and the other puppets, only to curse them later on and turn them into puppets as a part of her nature. Overall, Kintoru is a ruthless and unforgiving woman who only desires control over others as her nature as the Beast of Control.
Trivia[]
- Her nickname is derived off of the Hachishakusama, with the last part being her nickname. This is shared alongside Hiachi (although her name has an I in it instead) and Shaku.
- Her original jumpscare sound effect was a modified version of the jumpscare sound from the Five Nights at Freddy's game, Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator.
- Kintoru seems to have an affinity for birds and insects, as shown in her other forms, Omukade and Saigomo, who are based off on insectoids (as Omukade is a centipede and Saigomo is a spider), and her fake jumpscare has crows in it.
- As stated above, Kintoru (Control) was one of the Four Beasts that rampaged across the Earth alongside Enzukai (Jealousy), Netamo (Rage) and Yuma (Rebirth).
- Kintoru's signature colour is black.
- As Omukade, Kintoru is the largest monster in the game alongside Kabocha and Kusonoki's monster form, only being bested by the Evil God's multiple arms form.
- In order to kill Yasu, Kintoru had to shapeshift a total of three times, with the forms being her "Witch" form, her "Omukade" form and finally her "Saigomo" form. Though she still ended up failing to do so.
- According to lore writers, she cannot devour people.
- However, this is rather confusing as seen in The Witch Trials, it is mentioned that Kintoru had devoured the lost souls and created the Fleshbags from her own flesh. But if one were to read closely, it says that Kintoru devoured the lost souls and not the humans, thus making it unclear whether she only devours spirits, and simply kills/curses humans.
- Kintoru, as the Witch, is currently the fastest monster in the game, with Futao, Mote, Shinigami and Shiniachi just right behind her.
- As stated by a Lore Staff member, after 20 years of being accursed by Kintoru, her victims (including the Masashige Family) all turn into spirits and goes into the afterlife. This doesn't apply to Yasu's friends or the residents of Akuyami Village however, as they were sacrificed and remains forever trapped within Limbo. Moreover, this also doesn't apply to Yasu's parents either, because they were only cursed for 2-3 years.
- As stated by a lore writer, the other three beasts can only transform into three different kinds of forms at most, making Kintoru the only one who can shapeshift into many different forms of creature.
- Kintoru is based on Freddy Krueger, the main antagonist of Nightmare on Elm Street.
- In the upcoming spin-off game, Yōkai, Kintoru will feature a skin of Makima from anime and manga series, Chainsaw Man.
- In addition, Kintoru is one of two characters to have a skin from that franchise, the other being Kyogi as Samurai Sword.
- Kintoru's lore is written by the full lore writing team for The Mimic
