Kirsten Lindholm is the main antagonist of Agatha Christie's 1958 detective fiction novel, Ordeal by Innocence.
She was a nurse and masseuse from Sweden, who joined the Argyle household during the war when Rachel opened their home as a place for children aged 2 to 7, safe from the bombing of the Second World War. She stays on as a housekeeper and later becomes an accomplice in Jacko Argyle's plot to kill his mother.
She was portrayed by Annette Crosbie in the 1984 film adaptation, by Alison Steadman in Agatha Christie's Marple which loosely adapted the novel in 2007, and by Morven Christie in the 2018 BBC miniseries adaptation.
History[]
In the 2018 Adaptation[]
Kirsten's role drastically changed in the 2018 BBC adaptation, since she is not the true culprit of the case. Here, she was a Scottish woman in her thirties, which is one of Rachel's foundlings. In this version, she is also the biological mother of Jacko. In this adaptation, the murderer is revealed to be Leo Argyll, who was in a tension with his wife and killed her in retaliation.
By the end of the series, Kirsten and the Argyll children confronted Leo and exposed his crimes. While the children rescued the framed Calgary from the asylum, Kirsten faked Leo's suicide and imprisoned him underneath the house, leaving him to die.
