Klaus and Veruca Dumont are the main antagonists of the 2022 Netflix original series, Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight.
They are a duo of British weasel siblings who escaped from their homeland to China to retrieve the four Tianshang Weapons in order to take over the world. Both of them are the former arch-nemeses of Luthera/The Wandering Blade, whose brother was murdered.
Klaus is voiced by Chris Geere (who also played Roger Clifford from Pokémon: Detective Pikachu and Slappy the Dummy from the Goosebumps TV show), while Veruca is voiced by Della Saba (who also voiced Aquamarine from Steven Universe).
Personality[]
Veruca[]
Veruca is violent and sadistic when compared to her brother. She has little remorse for those she sees as her enemies, she destroyed countless villages just because she felt like it. She's not very smart so she usually relies on her brother to do the planning. She is, however, very deceptive, she managed to trick the Queen of England into trusting her, so that she could carry out her plan to takeover. Although she tends to mess around with him, Veruca doesn’t even care about her brother at all. However, she does see him as a simple pawn for her plotting. This was shown when she abandoned him with Luthera, despite having a chance to save him with her power while also saying to him that she has other plans to finish. Veruca doesn’t hesitate to kill members of her own kind just to get what she wants as seen when she let Kyle (The Archmage) fall from the sky in cold blood, while also pointing out that the mages have been dead to her after they deserted her. Veruca also seems a bit masochistic, while her brother was searching the ground for the pandas he was grunting in pain pleading her to lift him, but she claims she “needs” him down there while whispering to herself, “Also, it’s funny”.
Klaus[]
Klaus is the more composed and smarter sibling. He prefers to take things the peaceful way. Unlike his sister, he is very smart, he is the one that makes the plans for the two of them and his plans always manage to succeed. Although he prefers to take the peaceful way out of situations, he is not above using dirty tactics to kill his enemies. Klaus isn’t entirely as villainous when compared to his sister.
After being reunited with Nigel (a member of their coven) he was filled with joy, while Veruca remained speechless and shocked. Veruca wanted to kill them all for forsaking her, while Klaus tried to calm her by telling her not do anything reckless. He was completely shocked and saddened when Veruca left him pleading countlesly for her to come back, to no avail. After his sister betrayed him, he told Luthera to end his lifespan, but she spared him because pursuing him and Veruca held her back for too long, leaving him completely alone.
Appearance[]
Klaus[]
Klaus is an adult male weasel with brown fur, a white snout and underbelly with a long brown tail, green eyes, and a goatee. He wears a green vest that has golden linings, laced buttons, and baggy shoulder pads, and two white wristbands, with two belts wrapped around his torso and back, making a “X”, and a belt around his waist, and black pants and boots, as well as a gold hoop earring on his right ear.

Veruca is an adult female weasel with white fur and blue eyes and a long white tail. She has pink hair that is tied in a ponytail. She wears a green collared vest with baggy shoulder pads, that she wears over a blue shirt, with puffy sleeves. She wears a belt around her waist, which carries her cleaver, and baggy white and blue stripped pants and black boots. She wears golden hoop earrings and the WuGao Gauntlet on her right hand.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Klaus and Veruca lost their parents at a relatively young age. And as a result, the two group up on the streets and were pickpockets.
Backstory[]
Fifteen years before the series' main events, Klaus and Veruca were members of a sect called the Mages, an organization that was interested in spreading chaos across England with the use of dark magic.
One night, they both fought the royal English guards, who were all defeated, except for Alfred of Landtrith, Luthera's brother. His sister interfered during the fight, but Veruca took the opportunity to take his sword and kill Alfred with it. They sadistically taunt Luthera before running away. Unbeknownst to them, Luthera swears revenge, and she becomes The Wandering Blade in the future.
Veruca eventually became the Queen's advisor. One night, she tried to poison her with a drink, but her attempt failed and she was captured by the royal guards. She tried to use her plant-based powers to escape, but the guards blocked her cell's window, thus making her lose her powers. She spent fifteen years in prison eventually losing her powers and sanity, until Klaus found her and freed her. After the fall of the other Mages, they both decided to carry on their legacy and go to China to find the Tianshang Weapons.
Season 1[]
Past[]
In the past, Veruca worked for the Queen of England as her Adviser and Archmage, but after she and her brother killed Sir Albert, both of them were sentenced to prison, Klaus however managed to escape and then freed his sister. Klaus and Veruca are now on a quest, not only for vengeance but to avenge all the mages that were assumed to be murdered by the Queen's Knights.
Present[]
The two arrived in China and their first course of action was to steal the WuGao Gauntlet, which had the power to creat huge shockwaves when slammed to the ground or any object. The two were almost caught stealing it, but due to Po's clumsiness they were accidentally freed and escaped with the Gauntlet.
The two then cross a lava river where they were confronted by Chuntao and his gang, Chuntao told them they can cross, but only if they give him the Gauntlet. Veruca then punches the ground, creating a huge shockwave that sent Chuntao and his gang flying, it also left a huge crater where the ground was punched.
The two arrived at the Lotus where the stole a scroll containing the information about the whereabouts of the remaining three of the most powerful weapons of China. After stealing the scroll, Veruca once again uses the Gauntlet to create a shockwave that nearly destroyed the entire village.
After the two got lost on the desert looking for a city where information about the Whip of Endless Flame was held, they argued and Veruca nearly killed Klaus in her anger, but when they manage to spot the city they were back on track with their plan. They however were confronted and attacked by Po and Blade, Klaus and Veruca fought them and nearly succeeded in killing Blade, but they were stopped by Po.
They then followed the Knight Colin to find out where Po and Blade were headed. Colin however already knew they were following him, confronts them, Klaus uses his intellect to trick Colin into bringing them along with him. After Colin found out they were mages, he attacks them, injuring Klaus. They managed to escape and Veruca finds a Chow Chow in the forest collecting mushrooms, Veruca threatens the Chow Chow to take them to their village or she will slice her neck.
When they arrived however, the Chow Chow's were actually plotting to eat them both, Veruca managed to get her magic back and controlled the vines surrounding the village to attack the Chow Chows. Veruca then used the WuGao Gauntlet to destroy the village leaving nothing behind.
They were, however, confronted by Po and Blade again and they were captured. After finding out that Po was taking them to the Moon Festival first, Veruca and Klaus then sprung their trap on the two bears and escaped. Po and Blade managed to find them again and fought, this time Veruca used her magic to tie Po up and threatened to kill him with the Gauntlet if Blade didn't tell them the location of the Whip of Endless Flame but the two were finally defeated by Luthera who used the "Ursa Major" belly attack trick she learned from Po to knock them out, intending now to truly imprison them. Unfortunately, the Emperor's guards caught up to Po and Luthera again and unwittingly allowed Klaus and Veruca to escape their captivity and retrieve the Gauntlet.
They arrived at the Emperor's Palace and Veruca destroyed the door with her Gauntlet and demanded the Emperor to surrender to them the Whip of Endless Flame. The unamused Emperor declined and sent his army of Rhinos to deal with them, they were however overpowered by the Gauntlet. Po then attacked them and they battled in the Emperor's Palace. After they managed to beat Po and Veruca broke his arm with the Gauntlet, they chased after the Raider of Raipur because she had the Whip of Endless Flame. They sledded down the mountain of snow and used both powerful items to try and take down both teams. After they succeeded, they left China using the Emperor's ship, but not before the Raider could switch the whip with a fake one. Klaus and Veruca left, not knowing that they only had one of the weapons.
Season 2[]
Klaus and Veruca went to find the Helm of Winds when they realized the whip they got was a fake. And then, they landed on an island somewhere in Polynesia. At first, they found out that it was savages. But then, they realized that all of the mages weren't murdered by the Knights of England. It's revealed after Veruca was arrested, similarly to how Klaus thought that all of the mages were dead, they thought that they were also murdered after they left them behind, and landed safely on the island. However, there's water here, and there's nothing edible to eat. But then, Kyle founds the helmet, and they raid ships to get food. Afterward, they are confronted by Kyle, who is now the new arch mage and wants them to live in peace with them, but Veruca refused to believe all she cared about was vengeance, even rejecting Klaus's plead that they should comeback when they have the Storm wheels and the real whip.
At the end of Season 2, Veruca abandons Klaus. Because of this, Blade decides not to kill Klaus, even though it's her chance to avenge Alfie.
Season 3[]
After abandoning her brother, Veruca pursuits the bears to London, England for the Tianshang Weapons. When she emerges from a box she faints out of exhaustion then becomes captured by two merchants who intend to sell her for money. She easily takes them down then starts heading north for the bears.
Meanwhile, Klaus returns and decides to stay at Mage Island to live a quiet and peaceful life. He also tries to reconnect with the others but was shunned for his compliance in nearly getting them all killed and losing the Helmet of Winds, ending exiled once more, attempting to grow crop plants so the Mages can grow their own food, Klaus hoped to find a way to be back on good terms with the others. He even decided to help Ping and Forouzan escape the mages when they arrived with the Tianshang Weapons to the place and after they did he reassured Kyle and the others that their efforts in farming will give them all the food they'd need.
At some point, Veruca heads to a bog in Festermouth, but she finds no trace of the Dragon Knights. When Veruca is confronted by The Monster of the Bog (Duncan) she attempts to interrogate him about the bears whereabouts, but he threatens her to leave his home and attacks with moss magic. Veruca counters with her plant magic shocking him about how she learned that Veruca chastised him about who’s asking the questions and swings vines at him. An aggressive battle ensues. But unfortunately, Veruca becomes victorious and asks about the bears again. Then, she introduces herself to him. But Duncan reveals that they’re ancestors to the Ancient Masters shocking Veruca. Wanting to know more Veruca ask him to tell more, Duncan explains that they aren't descendants to the Ancient Masters, but rather the pangean oppressors who opposed them. Interested Veruca ask what he told the bears, he told them information to find and destroy the weapons. This wroth her demanding the bears location, he said he won’t say and calls her mad, but gave in and was killed by Veruca continuing her pursuit of the bears.
Veruca eventually finds the bears and grabs al the weapons, making her invincible. She summons all the dead warriors and battles the Dragon Knights to prevent them from destroying the Tianshang Weapons. Luthera fights back with her brothers sword which turns out to also be one of the Storm Wheels of the weapons. Veruca fought her off aggressively and even summoned Alfred as a spirit warrior to defeat and kill Luthera as revenge for allegedly killing Klaus, Po attempted to reason with her but was rebuked, albeit throwing aside one of the Storm Wheels in anger, losing control over the Shadow Army. And just when she’s about to finish Luthera and Po off, her brother, Alfred, jumps in, sending his sword through her body, ending her for good. Her brother sensed this mourning her.
After Veruca's death and Sir Alfred gaining control of all Tianshang Weapons, Mage Island froze over as a result of Pangea being reformed, with Kyle having all the Mages prepare their supplies to move away again and encouraging Klaus to accompany them. After Alfred's shadow army came to attack and find Klaus, the latter hid away but was found by the Dragon Knights who needed his help to connect to the elements and summon the Ancient Masters to destroy the Tianshang Weapons with, Klaus only agreeing to join because he wanted the weapons destroyed too. After almost being captured by the zombified Veruca, Klaus was rescued by Po and the Dragon Knights. And after defeating Alfie's warriors, they retreated somewhere safe.

Trivia[]
- It's unknown why Klaus never used magic in the moonlight, though it's possible that, unlike his sister and the other mages, he was born to not have the ability to have magic. However, this is proven false as seen in Season 3. He was magically born, but he didn’t realize it, due to dedicating his early life to helping his younger sister.
- Klaus seemed to be the younger sibling, due to Veruca calling him her younger or baby brother. It's possible, however, that they're twins, with Veruca being either a few seconds or minutes older than Klaus. However, in Season 3, Klaus' memories reveals that he is actually older than Veruca, so he took custody of her at the time they were both growing up as street thieves on the streets of England. Her nicknames likely just being playful/malicious teasing.
- Veruca appears to be smitten with Po. However, it's uncertain about the ages difference between them. Po himself is disgusted by her advances.
- Klaus and Veruca Dumont are the first main antagonists in the Kung Fu Panda franchise who are originally from England (prior to them, two episodic antagonists, Kim the Invincible and Kira Kozu from Kung Fu Panda:Legends of Awesomeness, were also foreigners, though Kim's nationality wasn't specified).
- Klaus and Veruca are foils to Alfred, representing what he would've become if he used the Tianshang Weapons to recreate Pangea.
