The Knight Leader is a major character in the A Certain Magical Index franchise, serving as the secondary antagonist of the British Royal Family Arc.
As his title suggests, he is the leader of the Knights of England, one of the three factions that maintain the balance of power in the United Kingdom along with the British Royal Family and the Anglican Church. He is also a close friend of William Orwell. He initially supports Princess Carissa's coup in order to reform Great Britain for the better.
He is voiced by Takehito Koyasu in Japanese (who also voices Dio Brando in the Jojo's Bizzare Adventure franchise, Zeke Yeager in Attack on Titan, Zechs Merquise in Gundam Wing, Seifer Almasy in the Final Fantasy series, Nobuyuki Sugou in Sword Art Online, Shinya Aiba in Tekkaman Blade, Hand Demon in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Toji Fushiguro in Jujutsu Kaisen, Butch in Pokémon, Doji in Beyblade Metal Fight, Vearn in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai and Peacemaker in Suicide Squad Isekai as his young/true form), and David Matranga in English.
Appearance[]
The Knight Leader is a tall, handsome man with short blond hair and blue eyes. His hair is usually kept tidy with fringes and is parted in the middle. He is always seen wearing a crisp, brown suit with a wainscot and a cravat or an ascot instead of a tie.
Personality[]
Noble and chivalrous, the Knight Leader is the image of a stereotypical knight. He is an incredibly polite and well-mannered gentleman, being described as exuding elegance. He considers proper etiquette to highly important, especially for British nobles. Due to this, he tends to get quite annoyed trying to keep Elizard's eccentric behavior and antics under control, at one point tackling her to prevent her from forcing her way into Touma's selfie with her daughters. Moreover, despite his courteous demeanor, the Knight Leader openly states that he is interested in salacious subjects, such as sexy maid outfits and erotica, although he draws the line at fallen angels. He also likes to drink and tends to indulge himself once in a while.
He is extemely loyal to Great Britain and takes his role very seriously, willing to do anything to protect his country, even if it means breaking the rules or betraying his duties for the sake of his country. This is best shown when he assisted William Orwell in fighting the Spanish Astrological Sect and rescuing Princess Villian, which led to the deal between France and England being dissolved. During the British Halloween, he aided Carissa in usurping Elizard and take over the country, as he fully believed that Carissa's mindset is what's needed to protect England. This extremism is shown to be so great that he was fully willing to execute Princess Villian in cold blood, despite being good friends with her. However, there are limits even to this, as he displayed shown reluctance to Carissa killing innocent civilians. Upon realizing the error of his ways, the Knight Leader does everything in his power to make amends, even willing to be imprisoned for his crimes.
Aside from this, the Knight Leader has shown to be good friends with William Orwell, despite their social standing, even asking him to join the knights many times. Furthermore, he is shown to greatly respect Kaori Kanzaki due to her abilities and status as a Saint, so much so that he attemps to recruit her into the knights as well. He also actively tried to change the rules to allow women to join the knights. In addition to this, despite his normal stern attitude, the Knight Leader can show sentimentality at certain things, as shown when he sheded tears upon hearing Touma Kamijou's resolve to protect Othinus.
Biography[]
He was born to a noble family and later joined the knights of England, eventually rising up the ranks and becoming the commander of the Knights. He's just known by his title as the Knight Leader, which is given to the person who holds the title of commanding the Knight Faction.
At some point in time, he met and befriended William Orwell, a well-known mercenary whose work has always benefited England. The two would often go drinking or have sparing matches against one another. During his mid twenties, two years prior to the start of the main Index series, the Knight Leader partcipated in a hostage situation involving Third Princess Villian, though they could only watch as the back dealings between the French and the British prevented them from doing their duty and had the French forces deal with the Spanish Astrological Sect and save Princess Villian. Despite this, the Knight Leader was willing to risk his position in order to carry out his duty in protecting the princess, wanting to aid William Orwell in crossing to French territory.

Thororm's Defense Formula: The Knight Leader's main defensive spell which allows him to drastically reduce the offensive value of any weapon or attack, regardless if it's magical or scientific, turning it to zero. Any attack this spell is used against will automatically dissipate into green zeroes. This effect lasts around 10 minutes. In the case of projectiles, such as bullets or arrows, they would lose all momentum and become utterly useless. It can also disable explosives.
Hrunting: A magical dark red sword of about 3.9 meters and the Knight Leader's main weapon which he created using a common 80cm longsword as thebase. The sword can become tougher and sharper from the blood of slain enemies that blocked one's path, but Knight Leader most likely had Telesma act as the blood so that the large amount could be compressed into it in order to give it a tremendous amount of destructive power.
- Pattern Magic: Knight Leader's main form of magic used through Hrunting. The Knight Leader had reanalyzed the laws behind the Norse Gungnir and Mjölnir, the Celtic Fragarach and Brionac, and other famous magical weapons, combined them, and then condensed them in a simplified style of magic. With this, Knight Leader is able to create entirely new spells based on the new laws. During his battle with Acqua, he utilized 7 different patterns, each one more powerful than the last. However, he can only use one of the patterns at a time, and needs Curtana Original's Blessing to form the magic sword, otherwise it stays as a knight's longsword.
- Attack Range: Creates invisible cutting attacks which can hit the enemy in all directions. It also releases fragments of Hrunting that look like dark red rust blades only a few millimeters long to attack the enemy.
- Slicing Power: Allows Hrunting to cut through anything.
- Weapon Weight: Grants the sword tremendous destructive power.
- Movement Speed: Enhances the wielder's speed so no one can catch up with them, it allowed Knight Leader to exceed Acqua's kinetic vision and dissappear from his sight with no sound.
- Enduring Solidity: Makes the sword indestructible.
- Special Use: A rare pattern meant to slay certain mythical monsters.
- Precise Accuracy: Automatically guides attacks towards vital points.
High Speed Movement Spell: Even after losing the blessing of Curtana Original, the Knight Leader can still use magic to move at speeds comparable to Saints, with him claiming he can reach half the speed he had under the effects of the blessing on his own.

Master Swordsman: As the commander of the Knights of England, the Knight Leader is an incredibly skilled swordsman, able to rival the likes of Kaori Kanzaki and William Orwell, both of which are Saints.
Expert Combatant: The Knight Leader is shown to a highly experienced fighter, being capable of facing two saints in battle. He was also able to go toe-to-toe with Aleister Crowley, with assistance from Kaori Kanzaki.
