~ Knock's most famous quote. |
Herr Knock is the secondary antagonist of the 2024 gothic supernatural horror film Nosferatu, a remake of the 1922 silent film Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror. He is an estate agent, Thomas Hutter's boss, and Count Orlok's minion after being brainwashed by the latter.
He was portrayed by Simon McBurney (who also played Kreacher in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part One, Lord Protector in Wolfwalkers, Edgar Janssen in Hijack, and Atlee in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation).
Personality[]
From the beginning, Knock is already shown to be a suspicious individual. While he acts fatherly to Thomas, he still has been dangling a promotion over his head for a while now, and his eccentricity makes Thomas uncomfortable. Once he is outed as insane and in league with Orlok, Knock fully reveals himself to be pathetic and sycophantic to his master. In a twist of karma, he keeps delaying Thomas' promotion, only to be violently denied being made into a vampire by Orlok himself. However, in his final moments, he seems to have realized just how far he has fallen, calling himself "blasphemy" and even begging von Franz to burn him.
Biography[]
Knock sends Thomas Hutter to sell Grünewald Manor to Count Orlok. That night, Knock is shown chanting while naked. He is later institutionalized after eating three living sheep raw.
He is visited by Dr. Wilhelm Sievers, who asks him what his name is. Knock introduces himself to Sievers as a servant of Orlok, though not saying his name directly. Knock examines two rats that he killed while caressing a pigeon and talking about Orlok. He says that “he” is coming before decapitating the pigeon with his teeth and attacking an orderly.
Knock lures a guard to his room after his chair fell down and he started screaming. As the guard helps Knock, who rips out the guard’s throat with his teeth before escaping while cheerfully yelling that Orlok is on his way.
Knock brings Orlok back to Grünewald Manor and acts as his loyal servant. Professor Albin Eberhart von Franz and Dr. Sievers wonder who the Nosferatu is and go to Knock’s office, where they discover that it is Count Orlok.
Thomas, von Franz, and Sievers go to Grünewald Manor, preparing to kill Knock. However, when Thomas opens the coffin and strikes the stake down, it impales Knock in the chest. Knock coughs up blood, saying that he should have been immortal, but Orlok only cares about Ellen. Knock finally dies when he is staked by von Franz.
