Kodos the Lion is a major antagonist in the Sonic the Hedgehog comics published by Archie Comics, he is a xenophobic warlord who hated the Overlanders and started the Great War between the Kingdom of Acorn and Overlanders. He was also Dr Robotnik's mentor before being betrayed by him and swearing revenge on him and attempting to obtain the power of the Sword of Acorn to destroy Sonic and Robotnik.
Appearance[]
Kodos is an anthropomorphic Lion with yellow fur, red eyes, and a white mane. He is often wearing a red suit with shoulder pads and a blue cape. He usually is seen carrying his axe with him.
History[]
Kodos was the Warlord for the Kingdom of Acorn who harbored a great hatred for the Overlanders. After Nate Morgan became a member of King Acorn's council Kodos sought to get rid of him and teamed up with the court wizard Ixis Naugus to get rid of Nate and start a war between the Overlanders and Mobians. He tricked Nate and some students into entering the Great Forest where he had Naugus Mind control some Overlander soldiers into attacking them which got several Mobians and Overlanders killed. Kodos blamed Nate for the attack which resulted in King Acorn banishing Nate and the seeds of war being planted thanks to the event. Kodos then attempted to kill Naugus to tie up all loose ends however the wizard fled to the Zone of Silence, planning to hide out there until the Great War had ended.
Eventually after seeing two envoys from both his side and the overlanders try to make peace he snapped both their necks and wrote a message to each side to make them think the other side was bloodthirsty barbians which finally caused to Great War to begin. After leading several battles against the Overlanders he later took Julian Kintobor, later known as Robotnik, under his teachings and taught him everything he knew about war and battle tactics. He would later show him all the technology he had collected along with the Zone of Silence and revealed his plans for global conquest. Unfortunately for him, Robotnik betrayed him and took his plan for himself and threw him into the Zone of Silence. There to keep his sanity and body he was forced to swear loyalty to his former ally Ixis Naugus.
Later after escaping the zone alongside Uma Arachnis and Naugus the three would fight againsit Sonic and Geoffry St. John due to Naugus claiming to be the true king. Despite their bodies being crystallized by Naugus both Uma Arachnis and Kodos were trapped in their Crystal state after Naugus got his staff destroyed. The twos crystalized forms would put on the prison Island known as the Devils Gualag. Later however both Kodos and Uma Arachnis would regain physical form and after doing battle with Sonic again escaped the island on his biplane.
Later he would have Uma steal the Sword of Acorns for him which he planned to use to exact his revenge on both Sonic and Robotnik however Uma would later realize he was not to be trusted and take the Sword back. Combined with the exposure to the posions in Robotropolis and losing the Sword, Kodos completely lost his sanity and attempted to track down Uma which resulted in him being captured by Sonic and sent to Knothole for treatment. He would however break out and mortally wound Uma for not having the sword. He would eventually be defeated by Sally Acorn with the Sword of Acorns which she used to send him falling to his ultimate doom.
Personality[]
Kodos was a cunning yet cruel warrior. He was known for being tactical yet incredibly sadistic as well as shown when he murdered the envoys from both his own side and the Overlanders. He also held a deep Xenophobic hatred for the Overlanders to the point he was willing to kill his own people just to have an excuse to go to war against them. He also held no true loyalty to King Acorn as he plotted to overthrow him and take over the world himself. He is also shown to be quite vengeful especially towards Sonic and Robotnik for wronging him in the past. Eventually, over time, due to his time in the Zone of Silence and exposure to the chemical from Robotropolis Kodos, he began to lose his mind completely, becoming a bloodthirsty beast bent on taking revenge.
