Hi. This is Thesecret1070. I am an admin of this site. Edit as much as you wish, but one little thing... If you are going to edit a lot, then make yourself a user and login. Other than that, enjoy Villains Wiki!!!
The Koopalings are the secondary antagonists of Nintendo's Super Mario franchise. They are one of the famous elite members of the Koopa Troop.
The term "Koopaling" is generally used to refer to the original seven Koopalings. They were originally King Bowser's children and heirs to the throne of the Koopa Kingdom but in a 2012 interview, Shigeru Miyamoto said "Our current story is the seven Koopalings are not Bowser's children." since they aren't technically related to him, leaving Bowser Jr. as his genuine biological son. The Koopalings are Mario's persistent rivals.
The Koopalings appear as bosses in almost every 2D Super Mario game to kidnap Princess Peach and destroy the Mario Bros. while accomplishing their tasks for Bowser, but they all have been defeated in order from every world incompetently. They first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 as secondary antagonists where they served as bosses at the last level of a world where Mario and Luigi have to fight them to take back the magic wands to restore a ruling royalty that has been transformed into a animal or ugly creature in airships filled with Rocky Wrenches. The Koopalings later return in New Super Mario Bros Wii as they appeared alongside Bowser Jr to kidnap Princess Peach, causing the Mario Brothers and the toads to rescue her. They would return once more as one of the main characters in future Mario games
Mario & Luigi Series[]
After many absences, the Koopalings return as bosses in this series to stop the Mario Bros. from foiling Bowser's plans. They also appeared as allies in some story modes to help the protagonists (Bowser Jr. and Captain Goomba) to defeat the villains (Fawful and Best Fitness Friends).
Paper Mario: Color Splash[]
The Koopalings debuted in this game as bosses. They spread around the world to guard the paint stars and stop Paper Mario from obtaining them, but they all get defeated in order. Roy is the only last Koopaling who does not have a paint star, but lures Paper Mario into a trap in Bowser's Castle. They were last seen carrying Paper Bowser on an airship, and they crash-landed (though it was seen off-screen).
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)[]
Although none of the Koopalings appear in the film, Ludwig's full name appears on Bowser's piano during "Peaches" most likely as joke on Beethoven. This may hint that the Koopalings will appear in the potential sequel.
In regards to their birth order, Ludwig is claimed to be the oldest and Larry the youngest, but the other five don't have a birth number in order. It was widely believed that their birth order was depicted in Super Mario Bros. 3 where they first appeared as bosses in every world, but this has since varied in every game that would later feature them as bosses.
Unknown to their true ages, the Koopalings are portrayed as teenagers since they are way older than Bowser Jr. who is just a child. Out all of the seven, Larry is the only Koopaling whose age must be around preteen or early teen due to being the youngest.
According to Larry Koopa's Trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, he is the leader of the Koopalings. A position that some previously believed to belong to Ludwig von Koopa.
However, in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, the Koopalings do not seem to know who the leader among them is, with Iggy and Ludwig stating that they thought the group worked as a collective trust or even a republic.
In the DIC cartoons, the Koopalings were given different names, likely due to the show's production preceding the North American release of Super Mario Bros. 3, which provided their individual names.
Larry was Cheatsy, Roy was Bully, Wendy was Kootie Pie, Morton Jr. was Big Mouth, Ludwig was Kooky, and Lemmy and Iggy were the twins Hip and Hop, respectively.
In The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and the Super Mario World cartoon, the Koopalings replace Wart's minions.
In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, the Koopalings are shown to be working for Cackletta, despite her possessing Bowser. It is unclear if they realized it or not. Bowser's Minions later clarifies this by revealing that Cackletta’s minion, Fawful, was brainwashing them into their bidding.
