Kouto Fujisaki, more commonly known as "Father", is the main antagonist of the anime/manga series Noragami. He is the main owner of Nora and a human whose wish Yato was born from. The reason he has survived to the present day is because he has possessed the bodies of humans to prolong his lifespan. He has been inhabiting the body of a third-year who attends the same school as Hiyori Iki until the final arc of the series.
He is voiced by Kaito Ishikawa in the Japanese version of the anime and Clifford Chapin in the English version.
Appearance[]
Fujisaki has the appearance of a young man in his late teens of average height and build. His hair is light brown and chin length and his eyes are red. He is normally seen wearing his school uniform, though he wears other outfits on occasion as well.
His original appearance is unknown, with his face always being covered in flashbacks.
Personality[]
On the surface, Fujisaki appears to be a gentleman, being unfailingly polite and kind to "friends" and strangers alike. However, this is all an act; in reality, he is an extremely cruel, manipulative, sadistic and selfish person, being perfectly willing to put others' lives in danger simply to test out his own abilities. The fact that he has constantly possessed bodies simply to prolong his own lifespan, depriving the hosts of their own lives in the process, only further proves how selfish he is. He can also be very petty, such as when he steals Hiyori's first kiss during their trip to Capypa Land, and later rubs it in Yato's face for seemingly no reason other than to be a troll. He is further an extreme hypocrite, accusing others of "corrupting" Yato when the very reason why he created Yato as a god was to bring suffering and destruction to humanity for his own sadistic pleasure.
Fujisaki has a strong hatred for all gods, due to them believing themselves to be above the morality of humans and that they can do whatever they want without punishment. His reasons for his hatred are not entirely clear, but they seem to have to do with a woman he loved in the past, who died as a result of the actions of a god. Ironically, he doesn't seem to hold humans in a high regard either, holding humanity in such contempt that he later confesses he wants to destroy them all. He often uses his brushes to control people, once causing an old woman to jump out a window while smiling and another time sending a person to be killed in a car accident and enjoying it. Ultimately, Fujisaki is little more than a sadistic, childish psychopath who views all life, whether human or god, as playthings to mess with however he sees fit.
During the latter half of the series, Father obtained enough power and abilities that he had ascended into a type of god called a goryojin, a human worshiped into a god by his followers, adding to his hypocrisy about hating the gods despite becoming one himself.
It is later revealed in the final arc of the series that Father's disdain for gods is so strong that his ultimate goal is to create a whole new nation that will overwrite and destroy the realm of humans and replace it with a world without gods in it.
However, Father's sheer sadism and selfishness became his undoing in the end as he could only think about continuing to taunt and abuse Yato and Nora even when he was defeated and his own life was in danger. During Father's final moments, all he could do was silently scream in terror before permanently dying, his children having finally stopped caring about him after all the evils he committed for so long.
Trivia[]
- Kouto Fujisaki is not Father's real name, it is the identity he is disguised as after possessing the body of a Japanese high school student to hide his villainous actions throughout the story. Father's original true name is unknown.
