Kowalski is a major antagonist in Lupin III: The Legend of the Gold of Babylon. He formerly served as the consigliere to Marciano's father until his death, effectively taking over the crime organization as the "de-facto" boss.
History[]
After the death of Marciano's father, Kowalski took over as the de-facto boss of the Marciano crime outfit, leaving Marciano in charge of the Babylonian gold excavation business.
He's incredibly ruthless when it comes to his own subordinates, not hesitating to murder them when it comes to failed assassinations of Lupin and his crew. He instills fear into them to ensure nothing goes wrong with Marciano's excavation.
In the middle of the film, he terrorizes Jigen and unrelated bar patrons with a flamethrower in exchange for Lupin's whereabouts, causing Jigen to flee into a nearby sewer. When Jigen apparently outsmarts them, he fires his gun at Kowalski and his two remaining men, seemingly injuring Kowalski. This, however, turns out to be a manipulation tactic and Kowalski fires at him a few more times before being buried under rubble by Lupin himself.
Near the end of the movie, Kowalski informs Marciano of the Lupin gangs supposed return, sending him into a meltdown. He then kills one of his incompetent henchmen, Mike, and asks the rest of his goons to dispose of him.
When Lupin finally comes to rescue Fujiko, Kowalski betrays Marciano, kicking his body into an underground whirlpool and later sending Fujiko and Lupin along as well. After believing he's won, he takes one of the cigars from the box that Lupin left, only for it to be a bomb just as Lupin had said.
