He is a hunter hired by the Kingpin who acted as Spider-Man's mentor to help take down the Carnage Killer, mainly because he never had a son, so he wanted Spider-Man to be his student, though in reality, he wanted to train Spider-Man to be his most worthy opponent and to use him to wipe out Kingpin's rivals.
He was voiced by Steve Blum in the main versions, and by Nolan North in the IOS version.
Biography[]
Kraven the Hunter leaves a note on the thugs he tied up for Spider-Man so that he can meet him, saying, "I can help you." When Spider-Man heads to the location, he defeats the thugs. Kraven then makes his presence known, telling Spider-Man that he is impressive, but raw and inexperienced, Spider-Man then accuses the thugs of being his. Kraven then tells him that he is Russian but he is no friend to them, then introduces himself to Spider-Man, then tells Spider-Man that he can help him become a true hunter, Kraven then gives Spider-Man his address, Spider-Man them heads to Kraven's loft as Peter Parker. Kraven then tells Spider-Man about his life, what he does, and the types of people he hunts. Later, Spider-Man meets Kraven again. Spider-Man tells Kraven that he has been on the trail of the Carnage Killer. Kraven then tells Spider-Man that it thought it might have been him, but he has been watching him to know he is no madman, then admits that he briefly spied on him since there is much a hunter can learn from observation, then tells him that he never had a son of his son and that he doesn't want his legacy to die with him, and that he can make him the ultimate hunter, then offers to work together to stop the Carnage Killer and suppress the crime wave, Spider-Man agrees but still says he will work on his own, and Kraven says same, and they will only work together when needed, they shake hands.
Later, Kraven sends Spider-Man an address. There is a back alley from which the Russians move stolen Oscorp equipment to a safe house, then tell him to use the little fish to catch the big ones; Kraven then tells Spidey to follow them, then follow the truck since the Oscorp tech is in there, Spidey then gets to a Russian hideout. Later, Spidey then tells Kraven he is sending him of pictures of a map of places, the Carnage Killer struck, and a filer for an anti-crime fund-raiser hosted by Wilson Fisk, then tells him that he thinks they are going to try to kill him there, then tells Spider-Man that he can't let that happen, Kraven tells him it is tonight, and tell them to go there and stop them, then tells him that he believes in him to find a way to get in there despite not being an invite, later, Spider-Man tells Kraven that he has a description of the Carnage Killer. Kraven then says he used the map he provided to identify his hunting grounds, then tells him a true predator never stops the hunt, then tells Spider-Man to meet him at the location, Spider-Man reaches him, Spider-Man sees Cletus Kasady, Kraven then tells Spider-Man to wait, and that you can only know your prey by watching him stalk his own Spider-Man then jumps down anyway to save the kid from Cletus. Spider-Man then defeats Cletus and thanks Kraven for the help. Kraven isn't pleased since Spider-Man chose to disregard his advice, then tells him that he wanted him to stop Cletus permanently to unleash the killer instinct in him. Spider-Man then tells him that is not who he is, but he doesn't want to be that way ever; Kraven then tells Spider-Man that there will always be a greater predator than him.
Later, after Black Cat tells Spider-Man information about Wilson Fisk being the Kingpin, Spider-Man figures that Kraven may be working for him; he then goes to Harry Osborn since he is closest to Fisk. After Harry tells him that Fisk hired Kraven, he figures out that Kraven is an enemy. He then goes to his loft, but there is no sign of Kraven. Spider-Man then figures out from pictures that Kraven took that he was going to kill him and stuff him like a trophy, and all this time, he has been studying him, testing him, figuring out his strengths and how to beat them. Kraven appears behind Spider-Man, shooting tranquillizers. One tranquillizer gets Spider-Man, then Kraven delivers the sleepy Spider-Man to Central Park, then reveals to Spider-Man that he didn't betray him, he truly taught him all he knew, not just so he could eliminate the Kingpin's rivals but to make him the most worthy opponent. They then fight, with Spider-Man coming out on top. Kraven then begs Spider-Man to kill him, and Spider-Man says he won, so he is in charge. He then tells Kraven to tell him how to get past Kingpin's security to get to Kingpin's base. Kraven tells him how, but he still must face Fisk; Spider-Man then webs Kraven to a tree and then leaves.
