The Krieg Pirates, also known as the Pirate Armada (海賊艦隊 Kaizoku Kantai), are the main antagonists of the Baratie Arc in the manga and anime series One Piece and its live-action remake. They are a pirate fleet led by Don Krieg, who seeks to conquer all the East Blue and other places in the Grand Line. They are known as the most powerful pirate fleet of the East Blue.
History[]
When Don Krieg first turned to piracy, he seized a Marine vessel and used it as the flagship for his rapidly growing armada. Through ruthless tactics—including flying false white flags to ambush foes and deploying poison gas on coastal settlements—he built a force of fifty ships and five thousand men, earning the Marines’ reputation as the deadliest scourge of the East Blue.
Ambitious to conquer the Grand Line, Krieg set sail with his full fleet, only to be shattered on the seventh day by Dracule “Hawk-Eyes” Mihawk. All but Krieg’s flagship were annihilated, and even that lone ship barely escaped under cover of a sudden storm, returning to the East Blue with Krieg and just a hundred weakened survivors.
In dire straits, Krieg’s combat commander Gin disguised himself as the admiral to lure Marine Lieutenant Fullbody away, but was captured and left starved aboard Fullbody’s ship. Desperate, Gin burst into the floating restaurant Baratie demanding food—only to be beaten back until Sanji, moved by compassion, gave him a meal free of charge. Invigorated, Gin led the remnant crew back to Baratie, where Krieg recovered and declared his plan to seize the restaurant as a new flagship, recruit straggler pirate crews, and return to the Grand Line using Zeff’s logbook.
Mihawk, having tailed Krieg, obliterated the last Krieg ship before dueling and defeating Zoro, then departed. Unfazed, Krieg launched a full assault on Baratie’s cooks. Luffy and Sanji turned the tables, overpowering Krieg’s subcommanders until Gin, ordered to kill Sanji, instead struck down Pearl and defied his captain. In fury, Krieg unleashed his MH5 poison gas bomb to slaughter friend and foe alike.
After a brutal clash, Luffy defeated Krieg, who rose again in delirium, only to be felled by Gin’s decisive blow. Gin gathered the scattered pirate survivors in a small boat, declaring his oath to finally carry Krieg back to the Grand Line. Two years later, both Krieg and a gravely scarred yet surviving Gin appeared at Hachinosu, standing together as they listened to Vegapunk’s worldwide broadcast.
