Kui Mulang is a minor antagonist in Monkie Kid.
Originally a Celestial Guard, he fell in love with the Jade Maiden, a romance forbidden by the Celestial Realm. In his desire to be with her, he sacrificed his immortality and took on the form of a wolf demon. However, as the Jade Maiden underwent her reincarnation, he resorted to consuming the souls of those who entered his territory, hoping to extend his mortal life and ultimately reunite with her.
He was voiced by Sean Schemmel, who also voiced Jin, Syntax, and the Second King in the same series.
Biography[]
Originally a Guard of the Celstial Court, Kui Mulang fell in love with the Jade Maiden. Their love was deemed forbidden by the strict rules of the Celestial Realm. In a desperate act of sacrifice, Kui Mulang renounced both his and the Jade Maiden's immortality, hoping they could be reborn together in the mortal realm. This act resulted in his transformation into a demon. Since then, he has existed in the mortal realm, establishing his castle and consuming the souls of anyone who enters it. He does this to prolong his own mortal life and sustain himself while he patiently, and ruthlessly, awaits the return of the Jade Maiden, believing the souls of others will serve a greater purpose in facilitating their reunion.
After an encounter with the Protective Curse, Mei found herself separated from the Monkie Kids, thrust into a surreal confrontation with a variant of Kui Mulang from the Scroll of Memory. After his guards kidnapped her, Kui Mulang greeted Mei. As he explained his past to her, he revealed his intent to take Mei's soul next, deeming it to possess fiery essence. Mei launched an attack against Kui Mulang, who effortlessly restrained her. Kui Mulang mocked her abilities before he imprisoned both her and Ao Lie.
Hours dragged on before Kui Mulang summoned them to the castle's throne room. There, he announced the grim hour of their execution so he can take their souls. Just as he prepared to strike Ao Lie first, Mei broke free from her bindings, intercepting Kui Mulang's lethal blow with the Dragon Blade, angering him. She pushed Kui Mulang to a wall. Enraged, he resorted to his wolf form as he lunged toward Mei. Yet Ao Lie conjured a shield, momentarily halting the onslaught and buying seconds for Mei and Tang to escape. As the battle escalated, Ao Lie transformed into his dragon form. As Kui Mulang attacked, Ao Lie released a blast, obliterating the castle.
Personality[]
Kui Mulang is utterly consumed by his love for the Jade Maiden, a devotion so strong he sacrificed his immortality and became a demon just for the hope of their reunion. This obsession fueled his cruel and pragmatic actions, as evidenced by his willingness to consume countless souls to prolong his life. He displays a chilling arrogance, evident in his initial amusement at Mei's boldness and his subsequent taunting, where he acknowledges an opponent's power while mocking their perceived inability to use it. Despite his calm demeanor, he is prone to frustration and anger when defied, quickly resorting to brutal, primal methods like his wolf form when his power is challenged.
Powers and Abilities[]
Kui Mulang can create restraints that are effective, capable of completely subduing his enemies. Even in his humanoid form, Kui Mulang is highly skilled, exhibiting swiftness and wielding melee weapons such as a dagger.
After becoming a demon, Kui Mulang can consume the souls of anyone he desires, primarily those who enters his domain. This serves to prolong his mortal life, sustaining him through the years as he awaits the return of the Jade Maiden. He can also transform into a monstrous wolf form, which he implied to be his "old-fashioned" method of execution. In this form, his physical attributes are enhanced.
