Kumena

Kumena, briefly gaining the title of the Tyrant of Orazca is a brash merfolk shaman and one of the main antagonists of the Ixalan block of Magic: the Gathering. He and the rest of the River Heralds were supposed to protect the Immortal Sun from those who would use it for malevolent purposes. In order to fulfill the goal, Kumena wanted to wield the Immortal Sun against the Heralds' enemies.

History[]

Kumena was the shaper of the river who shares his name. He was a protégé of the shaper Tishana and was well respected amongst the merfolk. Like his teacher, Kumena wanted to protect the Orazca from the other races of Ixalan. Unlike her though, his method of doing so was much more aggressive. In order to protect the hidden city, he must use its powers against those who seek to claim it. Tishana believed her student was going to cause harm to a good portion of Ixalan and tried to stop him, but Kumena was firm in his ambitions. Out of all the parties who were all vying for the Immortal Sun, Kumena was the first to reach it. He managed to uncover the city from its dwelling and liberated all its denizens, most notably the elder dinosaurs. His reign was short-lived until the vampires Vona and Mavren Fein arrived to claim the Immortal Sun for the Legion of Dusk. The conquistadors easily beat Kumena and sent him out a window of the Tower of Triumph to the floor below. Tishana found him and managed to heal him, but Kumena's fate from this point is unknown.
