~ Shadow Moth to Kuro Neko. |
Kuro Neko is a minor antagonist in the French superhero cartoon series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir, appearing as the titular main antagonist of the episode "Kuro Neko". He is a cat-like Sentimonster created by Shadow Moth to steal Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous.
Biography[]
At some point prior to the events of "Kuro Neko", a young girl named Rythm lost her pet cat, causing her incredible grief. Sensing this grief, Shadow Moth infected her maneki-neko piggy bank with an amok and offered her a new cat in exchange for Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous; she accepted, creating Kuro Neko. Kuro Neko first appears while Ladybug is indoctrinating the new Cat Miraculous holder, Cat Walker (actually the original Cat Noir with a new costume and demeanor), using Montparnasse Tower as a scratching post. Kuro Neko attacks the heroes as they try to stop him, and, noticing Kuro Neko's bell, Ladybug mistakenly assumes that he is an Akumatized Cat Noir, despite Cat Walker's insistence otherwise.
Ladybug tries to apologize to "Cat Noir" and get him to stop, and a confused Shadow Moth orders Kuro Neko to seize the Miraculous so he can play forever. Cat Walker frees Ladybug from Kuro Neko's grip and again insists that Kuro Neko might not be Cat Noir. To prove this, he leads him to a park and convinces him to eat some grass, knowing that a real cat would do so to remove a hairball. Seeing this, Ladybug realizes that Kuro Neko isn't Cat Noir and expresses remorse for her poor judgement regarding her former partner, but is consoled by Cat Walker. The heroes engage Kuro Neko again, and Ladybug summons her Lucky Charm, creating a parachute.
Blinded by her growing affection for Cat Walker, Ladybug is unable to find a solution to stop Kuro Neko—she and Cat Walker attempt to blind him with the parachute, but he easily removes it. They then attempt to trap and parachute onto Cat Walker from above, only for a gust of wind to disrupt their plan, resulting in Cat Walker's Cataclysm touching Kuro Neko. Damaged by the Cataclysm, Kuro Neko goes berserk; Ladybug and Cat Walker then hear Rythm's voice from within Kuro Neko saying that her cat is broken. Ladybug realizes that Kuro Neko is a Sentimonster rather than an Akumatized villain, and puts together a plan that she is unable to include Cat Walker in, which he accepts.
Ladybug lures Kuro Neko to the Parc des Princes stadium, collecting freshly cut grass into the parachute and launching it into Kuro Neko's mouth, forcing him to cough out both the grass and Rythm. Ladybug learns of Rythm's plight and consoles her over the loss of her cat, convincing her to break the maneki-neko piggy bank, releasing the amok and Kuro Neko was released from existence. Afterwards, Cat Walker finds and returns Rythm's cat, and allows his Miraculous to be "returned" to the original Cat Noir persona, accepting that Ladybug values his partnership even if she doesn't always need him.
Trivia[]
- Unlike previous Sentimonsters, Kuro Neko appearance is based upon his Amokized object, Rythm's maneki-neko piggy bank.
- Kuro Neko is the fifth Sentimonster to be hit with a Cataclysm, following Adrien Agreste/Cat Noir, Reflekdoll, Light Eye and Banana Boom-Boom.
- Like Strikeback, Kuro Neko is one of the few Sentimonsters that Ladybug and Cat Noir mistake for an Akumatized villain at first.
