Kuroda

Kuroda is the main antagonist of the Enterprise episode "Canamar".

He was played by Mark Rolston, who also played Bogs Diamond in The Shawshank Redemption and voiced Lex Luthor in Young Justice and Norman Osborn in the video game Marvel's Spider-Man.

Biography[]

Kuroda was an Enolian criminal. At the age of fourteen, he was working in a transport yard when he was falsely accused of stealing latinum and sentenced to five years in a penal colony. There, he learned the skills that allowed him to become a career criminal on his release. At one point, he was captured and sentenced to the penal colony Canamar. He escaped and had himself fitted with subdermal implants that would allow him to release himself from shackles.

Kuroda was eventually recaptured and placed aboard a prison ship but made plans to escape with help from a Nausicaan prisoner. After freeing himself from his shackles, he freed his partner and they overpowered the guards, but Kuroda was frustrated that the ship's pilot was knocked out in the fight since they needed him to fly the ship. Captain Archer, on board with Commander Tucker after they were both falsely accused of smuggling, offered his services as a pilot, claiming the Enolians were only going to release him because he'd bribed their officials.

When a pair of Enolian patrol vessels attacked them, Archer convinced Kuroda they would be destroyed if they returned fire. Kuroda instead allowed Archer and Tucker to discharge plasma gas around the patrol vessels and ignite it, disabling them. Archer talked him out of having the vessels destroyed, since that would mean they'd be pursued on a murder charge. Beginning to trust Archer, Kuroda, who refused to eat the prison rations on the ship because he'd had too much of them, told him his history and his plan. A vessel would meet them at a trading post and dock with them, letting them transfer across. Kuroda offered to take Archer and Tucker with him and his partner but intended to leave the other prisoners aboard the ship, in a decaying orbit which would eventually cause it to crash on the surface with everyone believing them among the dead.

Archer and Tucker tried to retake control of the ship; Tucker managed to knock out the Nausicaan but was himself stunned by Kuroda, who only let Archer stay because he needed him to fly the ship. They docked with the vessel of Kuroda's allies but it had already been intercepted by Enterprise and was crewed by Lieutenant Reed, Ensign Mayweather and two security guards, who swiftly boarded the prison ship and provided Archer with a phase pistol, which he used to stun Kuroda.

With the prison ship doomed, the Enterprise crew evacuated the prisoners to the transport vessel. However, Kuroda recovered and attacked Archer, the only other person left on board, trying to force him to take the ship out of there. Archer told him the thrusters were already destroyed and there was no way to stop the ship crashing. Kuroda continued to fight Archer, who defeated him by electrifying a shackle Kuroda tried to beat him with. Still refusing to go back to prison, Kuroda sealed himself in the cockpit. Archer and the others reluctantly disengaged from the ship, leaving Kuroda to die when the ship crashed.
