Kuroobi

Kuroobi (クロオビ Kuro'obi) is a major antagonist during the Arlong Park arc of One Piece. He is a pirate officer of the Arlong Pirates who works for Arlong, along with Chew and Hatchan, to dominate the human race.

He was voiced by Hisao Egawa in Japanese, Jamie Meldrum in the Odex dub, Sean Schemmel in the 4kids dub, and Patrick Seitz in the Funimation dub.

Biography[]

Kuroobi grew up alongside Hatchan, Arlong, and Chew, and as a youth, he once admired the Sabaody Ferris Wheel with them. He and Hatchan had dreamed of opening a takoyaki stand, but eventually abandoned this plan to join the Arlong Pirates. After Fisher Tiger attacked Mary Geoise and founded the Sun Pirates, Kuroobi and the rest of Arlong's crew merged with Tiger's group. They spent their time sailing the Grand Line, battling Marines, and helping return a freed human slave named Koala to her home. Afterward, the Sun Pirates were ambushed; their ship was lost, Tiger was mortally wounded, and Arlong was captured. Kuroobi then served under Jinbe until Jinbe joined the Seven Warlords of the Sea, leading to Arlong's release.

Following the split of the Sun Pirates, Kuroobi stayed loyal to Arlong. They moved to East Blue, where the Arlong Pirates conquered Cocoyasi Village, killing Bell-mère. During the attack, Kuroobi was responsible for slashing Genzo and giving him the scars he carries. Years later, when Zoro was imprisoned and Nami's loyalty was questioned, Kuroobi found evidence against her, but apologized after Nami seemingly proved her allegiance by "killing" Usopp.

As one of Arlong's top officers, Kuroobi fought alongside Chew and Hatchan to defeat Marines from the 77th Branch. When the Straw Hat Pirates attacked Arlong Park, Kuroobi faced off against Sanji. Although he initially overpowered Sanji with Fish-Man Karate and mocked his sense of honor, Sanji cleverly forced him onto land, where the fish-man lost his advantage. Enraged by Kuroobi's taunts, Sanji overwhelmed him with a fierce barrage of kicks, ultimately knocking Kuroobi through a wall and leaving him defeated.

After Arlong's defeat, Kuroobi was arrested along with the rest of the Arlong Pirates, though his crewmate Hatchan eventually managed to escape.
