Kuroobi is a major antagonist in the Season 1 of the 2023 live-action series One Piece, based on the anime/manga franchise of the same name.

He is one of the two officers of Arlong Pirates (alongside Chew) who is skilled in Fish-Man Karate, as well as Arlong's right-hand man.

He is portrayed by Jandre le Roux.

Biography[]

Eight years ago, the Arlong Pirates arrived on the Conomi Islands and subjugated the local population, who had no chance against the fish people. Kuroobi took care of Genzo and gave him the distinctive scar on his face. First of all, a tribute of 100,000 belly had to be paid for each adult and 50,000 belly for each child. Anyone who could not do this was killed. In addition, the villages had to pay a monthly tribute to the fish people. Arlong and Kuroobi also went to the somewhat remote house of Bell-mère, who was supposed to live there alone according to the list. Bell-mère paid for herself, but Arlong became suspicious when he saw three plates on the table. Bell-mère did not have the heart to deny her two children Nami and Nojiko, for whom she could not pay. Instead, she took the tribute with which she wanted to pay for her life and paid for her two children instead. For Bell-mère, this meant death, and Arlong killed her despite the presence of her two children. Kuroobi was also present when Nami came some time later and made a deal with Arlong, after which she became part of the crew. Kuroobi then gave her the Arlong Pirates tattoo and Arlong promised to give her and the village freedom if she brought him the agreed sum of 100,000,000 belly.

Eight years later, after Buggy's defeat by Luffy, Zoro and Nami, Kuroobi appeared as the clown was just reassembling himself and captured him on the orders of his captain. Shortly afterwards, Arlong appeared in person and threatened Buggy because he had demolished Orange without his permission. Buggy was able to convince him to let him live. The fish-man then took Buggy with them so that he could tell them where Straw Hat Luffy was, who had the map to the Grand Line, which the fish-man was very interested in. With Buggy's head in a sack, Arlong, Kuroobi and Chew followed the Straw Hats to the Baratie and threatened the guests, whereupon the owner Zeff showed himself. Zeff denied knowing a pirate with a straw hat and Nami saw the fish-man. She wanted them to flee, but Luffy showed himself because he could not allow innocent people to be hurt. Zeff wanted to take advantage of this and shot Arlong, but the bullet simply bounced off him, causing Kuroobi to smash his wooden leg. Sanji then wanted to help his boss, but he had no chance against Kuroobi and was easily defeated. The same thing happened to Luffy against Arlong, whereupon the Arlong Pirates left the Baratie with Nami and the map to the Grand Line.

Back in Arlong Park, Kuroobi went to see Nami, who was playing cards with Chew and Hachi and winning, and told her that Arlong was waiting for her. In the evening, the fish-man threw another party, but then the Marines led by Captain Nezumi showed up and wanted to talk to Arlong. Kuroobi was there and followed them as they continued their conversations in peace in the tower. When Arlong learned after the conversation with Nezumi that Nami had collected the sum of 100,000,000 belly, he sent Kuroobi to fetch Captain Nezumi back, and Arlong told him about the money. Arlong then called his crew to attack Cocoyasi Village and the pirates burned down the entire village. At that time, however, the Straw Hats were also on the Conomi Islands, because Luffy did not want to believe that Nami was a traitor. After they learned the truth, they broke through the gate and attacked Arlong Park directly. While Luffy was dealing with Arlong in the tower and Usopp's opponent was Chew, Kuroobi faced Sanji and Zoro. With his Fish-Man Karate, he was able to bring the two Straw Hats to the ground several times and didn't take a hit himself. He seemed like the sure winner, but made a huge mistake by speaking badly about Nami and thus provoking Sanji. With a targeted sequence of kicks, Sanji could then defeat Kuroobi. Later, Vice Admiral Garp's unit appeared and ordered his men to capture the still-fugitive Arlong Pirates. It can be assumed that Kuroobi was captured by the Marines.

Personality[]

Like Arlong, Kuroobi is a proud fishman who sees humans as inferior. He is also very confident in his abilities. Unlike Arlong, Kuroobi does not think highly of Nami and distrusts her.

Appearance[]

Kuroobi is a stingray-type fishman. He has a fin on each elbow, as well as gills and fish skin between his fingers. He has long black hair that is tied in a long braid at the back and in two small braids on his forehead. He wears a dark green, sleeveless combat suit with a black belt. There is a tattoo resembling a sun on his right chest.

Powers and Abilities[]

After Arlong, Kuroobi is probably the strongest member of the Arlong Pirates and enjoys his full trust. He is always seen at his side. As a fish-man, he has significantly greater physical strength than normal people and is even more dangerous in the water. He is a master of Fish-Man Karate, which is why Buggy had no chance against him and Sanji and Zoro didn't look good against him at first. In the Baratie, Sanji had to admit defeat without being able to do anything against him and needed the necessary motivation to defeat him. He can also use a tattoo needle and tattooed the Arlong Pirate's Jolly Roger on Nami's upper arm.
